Support/Heavy FTW.

If that were to happen, that'd be my class every time.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Class = Unbalanced/unfair Gameplay, it is not Halo.

Edit: Classes and perks are one of the reasons why I don't like CoD, and I come back to Halo. It is completey unfair that just because I haven't been playing as much, I get crappier weapons. The people who play a lot get a lot of weapons, and better perks. So in Halo, lets say I go against a person with a lot more expierence in a head to head BR battle, I got first shot, but he still wins?! Why is that? He has the perk Juggernaut and extra damage on. Whilst I am teh noob and don't have those perks yet.

This is extremely not fair, sure It works for CoD. But it won't work in Halo.

This idea reminds of Killzone 2's class system. It works for Killzone, not sure about Halo though.

So, I was at tuition and this typically happens to me when I'm there anyway but I started thinking about Video games suddenly. Remembered all the crazy Halo: Reach Natal stuff and started thinking about Halo: Reach and stuff. An then suddenly, my mind shifted to Multiplayer. I wondered if the speculation that Reach was class based would be true and how a Class based Halo might work.

So I was thinking of how there would be Classes, each one with 2 Weapons and several other 'perks' so to say (Not specifically related to the Call of Duty perks). With every 50 kills, you get a point to unlock a perk for anyone of your class. Each class has 3 unique perks. 15 Perks per side.

I thought it up for the UNSC side and the Covenant Side (With all the players playing in this side being Elites) and while I pretty much got the UNSC side sorted out, I'm not done with my Covenant Classes.

So without further adu, The UNSC.

Class 1: Assault.

Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle

Secondary Weapon: Assault Rifle

Grenade Type: Frag Grenade.

Standard Equipment: Bubble Shield

Perk Upgrades:

1) Adrenaline - When under fire, movement speed increases 1.5 times.

2) Still Standing - When player loses all health, he has 5 seconds to get away without being fired at. Doing so gives allows him to survive and get his health automatically restored to 1/4 its original.

3) Frag Party - After every 3 kills, Player gains one extra Grenade.

Class 2: Demolitions

Primary Weapon: Shotgun

Secondary Weapon: Rocket Launcher

Grenade Type: Cluster Grenade ( When thrown, Spits out 7 mini-grenades in a radius )

Standard Equipment: Remote Charges and Detonators

Perk Upgrades:

1) Clean Sweep - Able to fire shotgun without pumping when under fire and health under 40%

2) Target Locked - Adds Lock-on capabilities to the Rocket launcher.

3) Cluster Stick - Cluster Grenades can now stick onto enemies

Class 3: Sniper

Primary Weapon: Sniper Rifle

Secondary Weapon: Standard Pistol

Grenade Type: Sonic Grenade ( When blown up, all enemies in a 10m radius get NAV markers on their heads for 10 seconds )

Standard Equipment: Recon Drone ( All enemies in the Drone's AOE gets NAV markers on their heads )

Perk Upgrades:

1) I see All - Opens up a Overhead map of the Map with everyone on it. Able to designate one enemy with a NAV Marker on their heads.

2) An Eye for an Eye - Every Marked enemy appears marked for allies as wel.

3) Send me out, with a bang - When the Recon Drone is destroyed or runs out, it emits a Sonic Blast, with the same effect as the Sonic Grenade.

Class 4: Scout/Infiltrator

Primary Weapon: Silenced SMG

Secondary Weapon: Silenced Pistol ( AutoMag )

Grenade Type: EMP Grenade ( When used, all players in the blast radius get their screens all fuzzy and their weapons don't work for 3 seconds )

Standard Equipment: Flare and Auto Shade Visor ( Instant Protection from the Flare's effects on yourself )

Perk Upgrades:

1) Screwing with you - All enemies in a certain radius around the player get their Radars messed up

2) Piercing Skin - All Melee attacks now utilize the Combat Knife.

3) We stole this one from you - When under fire and health under 40% of original, player automatically goes into cloaking. Effect when being fired on while in cloaking disabled for 5 seconds.

Class 5: Support/Heavy (Spartan Skin)

Primary Weapon: Spartan Laser

Secondary Weapon: SMG

Grenade Type: Napalm Grenade

Standard Equipment: Health Packs ( Constantly replenishing )

Perk Upgrades:

1) Two for the Price of 1 - Upgrades SMG to Dual Wielded SMGs and remains as such even when weapon is switched.

2) Ima Re-Chargin Ma Lazer! - Spartan Laser gets infinite Ammo but has a significantly longer recharge time.

3) That's My Ride - Earns the Ability to Hijack Vehicles.

That's how a UNSC Side Class based Halo should work like I feel. I'm still working on the Covenant but its tough for them due to the lack of proper weapons. Got it mostly finalized though so that will be coming up soon.

So what do you guys think? Sounds good? I sure hope the game turns out something like this. Or at least, Class based. The time is now.

you really did think about this didn't you? :O

I've always wanted a class system in Halo. As long as none of these perks drastically effect gameplay i would really enjoy it. No more throwing the controller at the wall for losing sniper. ;) The only thing i would change is not allowing people to spawn with rockets. Spawning with shotgun is pretty bad, but rockets are just overkill.

Reading this is just annoying. Halo isn't supposed to be like other games and it shouldn't try to be like them. Seeing the idea of a class-based game for HALO is annoying. If Bungie does this I'm going to shoot myself.

WoW is like Girls Gone Wild without the tits: idiots and douches taking turns doing anything to get noticed, and no one knows what a condom looks like.

The fact that your life hangs in the balance of a video game is sad. Whatever Bungie does will kick ass. End of story.

It was an exaggeration. If Bungie puts their own spin on it than it might not be as bad, but there is no way I'd want to try it. People say it works for CoD but to me the most annoying thing about cod is classes.

You've never played CoD4, have you? You just like trash talking it?

Because if you have, you would know that the most overpowered perks and weapons are the 1st ones available.

I have played CoD4, but not for long. I got pretty pissed that I had this dinky little sniper while others had 50 caliburs that could shoot as fast as a carbine.

Wouldn't work.

The whole point of Halo is starting on equal ground and fighting for power weapons. And besides, I think the last thing Bungie would want to do is be more like COD.

I think classes would be fun, but would have to be toned down a little. I really like the infiltrator class but i think that some of the perks make gameplay a little bit unfair.

They could have a Section of playlist dedicated to Classes and one for non-classes.

The Sections would be:
Classes
Ranked Class Match
Social Class Match
Normal Halo
Ranked Classic
Social Classic

If it really had to go ahead I'd say that this would be the best way to implement such a feature. That way everyone wins, it would be similar to matchmade Customs.

Well, the concept of how Halo plays in itself isn't original. Plus, I believe the Halo universe and Sandbox is designed as such to support multiple types of Gameplay. With such a design, anything could work for a Halo game. And, now's the time where we're seeing Halo games stray away from the traditional model. Halo Wars was an RTS. Halo 3: ODST is doing Halo but differently. I think the next logical step for a Halo FPS is radically changing the way the Gameplay works. And I am sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Not sure who that was directed to, but if its to me, then try to be happy, okay? :D Oh and you're right about the Bungie doing Kick-ass things point.

Good point. But that is not the whole point of Halo. That is the point of Halo thus far .
Oh and I do recall hearing, sometime after COD4's release, that Bungie liked COD4 and that it could actually serve as an inspiration point to some things Bungie does in the future.

I'm not saying that this is a copy of that. I'm not a huge fan of COD4 because early on, when people get Matyrdom, the game starts to die. But, it did have some good points and the general concept of how the Class Based system worked was one of them.

Besides, COD4 did not start the whole Class Based thing. I believe the original Team Fortress was what put Class based shooters on the map. If anything, this would be a adaption of that.

This ain't Call of Duty bud

You're absolutely right. This ain't Call of Duty. This is a Class based Halo.

Yea. That's absolutely true. Some of the Perks in the current state make the gameplay unfair. And like someone else said, particularly the Support/Heavy Class and Demolitions class. I'm working on refining them and also begun work with the Covenant System. Te Covenant System ( Which will constitute of all players as Elites with different types of Armor) is a bit tricky because a lot of the weapons and abilities I have thought about currently don't exist in the Halo Sandbox. I'm trying to make it as close to what we have as possible.

Look even though this post is creative and well formed it just can't be implemented. Why turn Halo into something already on the market when it could just be Halo. Halo has already established a fairly unique and fun way of presenting gameplay. The game is an epic struggle to control a map specific set of power weapon and vehicles. To create a class based Halo game is to destroy that element that makes Halo such a great game. No thanks.

Well, this idea isn't trying to turn Halo into something already on the market. In fact, I have to say that argument is a bit flawed because at the time when Halo was released, there were various games of its kind already in the market. And yes, you're right. Despite all of that, Halo has already established a way of presenting gameplay that most everyone in the gaming world can relate to.

But, if Halo Wars was any indication, despite not being Bungie made, I thing we can safely say that Halo is taking a turn into the unique, with new game ideas for Halo surfacing. In the FPS scene, a Class Based Halo is a natural progression in my opinion and is a fitting revitalisation of a series which may very well be getting stale, I had to admit.

Ugh, Halo Wars was a complete failure, though it was a "Halo" game, it did extremely bad compared to the other games. Shocking isn't it?

Turning the franchise into something it isn't, or shouldn't be doesn't respond well with the fans. Amazing.

I think that a class-based game should be approached with caution; Halo still needs to be something people can play much like they used to be able to.

You've entirely eliminated picking up weapons in the game. Which works for some (Call of Duty and Team Fortress among them), but I don't think so for Halo.

What should be implemented is that there are classes, and they all have an automatic, noticeable-but-not-dire edge in using certain wepaons. Soldiers can handle the Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle with a touch (more) of autoaim and slight damage increase. Enough for one to say "maybe I should use what's given to me," but not enough that you can't say "I want to pick up that rocket launcher and show 'em how to spell pain my way."

As for your perks, they are lopsided. You have some interesting ideas -- the concept that snipers can get NAV markers on enemy targets is a neat one --, but they are quite unrefined. Other than that, it is agreeable that a class-based halo could work. But I think we need to keep in mind the Halos we have played before and take a step back from the full-on classing system of games we know.

Edit: One foreseeable problem in my implications is the Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and other one-hitters. There's no way to tone them down and still get the same effect without getting the "what's the point" effect from the fans. I would suggest at this point that such weapons aren't enhanced by classes at all -- yes, even the sniper --, and as such are left on the map to grab. Snipers could have perks to augment their play, but not a natural inclination to do more damage.
