Man OP you have been playing a LOT of Battlefield Bad Company

My Gamertag is DarkBladeX360

Class: Medic

Primary weapon: Magnum

Secondary Weapon: Not a gun, but laser that recharges friendly shields quickly when shot at them.

Grenade Type: Flash

Standard Equipment: Oversheild

Perks:

Poison bullets: Add poison to your magnum so it constantly does damage to your enemy even if you die.

Vaccination: Able to vaccinate your allies so they shield temporarily recharged at a faster pace.

There is no god: When you die, you have an extra 10 seconds to revive yourself, this only works if you are taking no damage.

Ugh, Halo Wars was a complete failure, though it was a "Halo" game, it did extremely bad compared to the other games. Shocking isn't it?

Turning the franchise into something it isn't, or shouldn't be doesn't respond well with the fans. Amazing.

I couldn't agree more. The thing is Halo is a pick-up-n-play game. Where your friend from down the street can start playing and have the same advantages and disadvantages as you (minus the obvious that you play the game and they don't). That's the thing that bothers me the most. Adding classes doesn't level the playing field at all, even if the classes are well balanced. Furthermore you have to think about the Halo pros. It wouldn't be the same if pros went into a 4v4 and some had some perks and others had different perks, because then it would come down to which team has the better, or more balanced perks/weapons, and draws away from actual raw skill. I think just for that fact Bungie will know to steer clear of a class-based Halo. Sorry, but I really hope they just ignore this idea completely.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Please note that the following text is all speculative and imaginative and in no way represents the final game. This has nothing to do with Bungie as is merely the result of my immense boredom. Though if Bungie is willing to take the idea, then I expect royalties to be paid. I'll get my people to talk to your people.

So, I was at tuition and this typically happens to me when I'm there anyway but I started thinking about Video games suddenly. Remembered all the crazy Halo: Reach Natal stuff and started thinking about Halo: Reach and stuff. An then suddenly, my mind shifted to Multiplayer. I wondered if the speculation that Reach was class based would be true and how a Class based Halo might work.

So I was thinking of how there would be Classes, each one with 2 Weapons and several other 'perks' so to say (Not specifically related to the Call of Duty perks). With every 50 kills, you get a point to unlock a perk for anyone of your class. Each class has 3 unique perks. 15 Perks per side.

I thought it up for the UNSC side and the Covenant Side (With all the players playing in this side being Elites) and while I pretty much got the UNSC side sorted out, I'm not done with my Covenant Classes.

So without further adu, The UNSC.

Class 1: Assault.

Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle

Secondary Weapon: Assault Rifle

Grenade Type: Frag Grenade.

Standard Equipment: Bubble Shield

Perk Upgrades:

1) Adrenaline - When under fire, movement speed increases 1.5 times.

2) Still Standing - When player loses all health, he has 5 seconds to get away without being fired at. Doing so gives allows him to survive and get his health automatically restored to 1/4 its original.

3) Frag Party - After every 3 kills, Player gains one extra Grenade.

Class 2: Demolitions

Primary Weapon: Shotgun

Secondary Weapon: Rocket Launcher

Grenade Type: Cluster Grenade ( When thrown, Spits out 7 mini-grenades in a radius )

Standard Equipment: Remote Charges and Detonators

Perk Upgrades:

1) Clean Sweep - Able to fire shotgun without pumping when under fire and health under 40%

2) Target Locked - Adds Lock-on capabilities to the Rocket launcher.

3) Cluster Stick - Cluster Grenades can now stick onto enemies

Class 3: Sniper

Primary Weapon: Sniper Rifle

Secondary Weapon: Standard Pistol

Grenade Type: Sonic Grenade ( When blown up, all enemies in a 10m radius get NAV markers on their heads for 10 seconds )

Standard Equipment: Recon Drone ( All enemies in the Drone's AOE gets NAV markers on their heads )

Perk Upgrades:

1) I see All - Opens up a Overhead map of the Map with everyone on it. Able to designate one enemy with a NAV Marker on their heads.

2) An Eye for an Eye - Every Marked enemy appears marked for allies as wel.

3) Send me out, with a bang - When the Recon Drone is destroyed or runs out, it emits a Sonic Blast, with the same effect as the Sonic Grenade.

Class 4: Scout/Infiltrator

Primary Weapon: Silenced SMG

Secondary Weapon: Silenced Pistol ( AutoMag )

Grenade Type: EMP Grenade ( When used, all players in the blast radius get their screens all fuzzy and their weapons don't work for 3 seconds )

Standard Equipment: Flare and Auto Shade Visor ( Instant Protection from the Flare's effects on yourself )

Perk Upgrades:

1) Screwing with you - All enemies in a certain radius around the player get their Radars messed up

2) Piercing Skin - All Melee attacks now utilize the Combat Knife.

3) We stole this one from you - When under fire and health under 40% of original, player automatically goes into cloaking. Effect when being fired on while in cloaking disabled for 5 seconds.

Class 5: Support/Heavy (Spartan Skin)

Primary Weapon: Spartan Laser

Secondary Weapon: SMG

Grenade Type: Napalm Grenade

Standard Equipment: Health Packs ( Constantly replenishing )

Perk Upgrades:

1) Two for the Price of 1 - Upgrades SMG to Dual Wielded SMGs and remains as such even when weapon is switched.

2) Ima Re-Chargin Ma Lazer! - Spartan Laser gets infinite Ammo but has a significantly longer recharge time.

3) That's My Ride - Earns the Ability to Hijack Vehicles.

That's how a UNSC Side Class based Halo should work like I feel. I'm still working on the Covenant but its tough for them due to the lack of proper weapons. Got it mostly finalized though so that will be coming up soon.

So what do you guys think? Sounds good? I sure hope the game turns out something like this. Or at least, Class based. The time is now.

Cool!! What do you think of this? Actually this is more like character models with traits.

Classification: ODST
Starting Weapons: Silenced SMG & Magnum
Max Carrying Capacity: 3 weapons, 4 grenades, 1equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 25-40 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 75-110%
Sprint Speed: 115-125%
Sprint Time: 5 seconds
Sprint Recovery TIme: 10 seconds
Shields: None
Shield Strength: None
Shield Recovery TIme: None
Meele Strength: 75%
Min-Max Jump Height: 1- 3 feet
Health: 75-100%

Classification: Spartan
Starting Weapons: Assault Rife & Battle Rifle
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 1.5-3 tons
Min-Max Speed: 120-145%
Sprint Speed: 150-175%
Sprint TIme: 15 seconds
Sprint Recovery Time: 7 seconds
Shields: 1
Shield Strength: 100%
Shield Recovery Time: 7 seconds
Meele Strength: 125%
Min-Max Jump Height: 4-10 feet
Health: 115-125%

Classification: Grunt
Starting Weapons: Plasma Rifle & Plasma Pistol
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 35-45 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 75- 90%
Sprint Speed: 95-115%
Sprint TIme: 10 seconds
Sprint Recovery Time: 7 seconds
Shields: None
Shield Strength: None
Shield Recovery Time: None
Meele Strength: 90%
Min-Max Jump Height: 1-3 feet
Health: 85-110%

Classification: Elite
Starting Weapons: Plasma Rifle & Carbine
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 500-525 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 115-135%
Sprint Speed: 140-150%
Sprint Time: 10 seconds
Sprint Recovery TIme: 10 seconds
Shields: 1
Shield Strength: 110%
Shield Recovery Time: 5 seconds
Meele Strength: 135%
Min-Max Jump Height: 3-7 feet
Health: 115-125%

Traits like speed, jump height, and health change depending on how much armor you put on your model. And each trait changes between the given ranges. For example:
Min-Max Speed: 115-135%

You would have to unlock spartan and elite classes. In matchmaking there would be a maximum of 3 spartans or elites or a mix of them on a team. In a free for all game there could be 5 spartans or elites or mixed. And seriuosly do not just turn it down just because it sounds like COD. Give a real reason besides that.

Edit: One foreseeable problem in my implications is the Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and other one-hitters. There's no way to tone them down and still get the same effect without getting the "what's the point" effect from the fans. I would suggest at this point that such weapons aren't enhanced by classes at all -- yes, even the sniper --, and as such are left on the map to grab. Snipers could have perks to augment their play, but not a natural inclination to do more damage.

I saw this problem when designing the classes. So I treed to make sure any weapon specific perk didn't make it too over powered. I took some extra caution with the Sniper Class. As you can see, nothing in the Sniper Class makes it particularly overpowered as there is ability that boosts the damage of the Sniper Rifle. In fact, I designed the equipment and perks of the classes as such.

Assault: Survivability and main Damage Dealer.
Demolitions: Quick Close Quarters and Anti- Personal.
Sniper: Ironically, Scouting and Enemy Pinpointing.
Infiltrator: Surprise attacks and Close Quarters Sweeps.
Heavy: Field Support and Anti- Vehicle.

As a matter of fact, yes I have. I feel that its a much better game than Call of Duty 4 and its the only modern game (save for TF2) to do a Class based game right. In fact, some inspiration was drawn from BF: BC.

I admit, it is pretty overpowered. That's because I built the Demolitions class here generally around the Battlefield Demolitions class. And well, with some tweaks to the way the Shotgun works, I think it will fit in just fine.

Sure, Halo needs to keep that crazed sense of modularity but it doesn't mean that a class based Halo would make it lose that. Also, not all class based games turn into boring, repetitive slugfests. Case in point: Battlefield and Team Fortress 2.

_____________________________________________________________ __________

Okay and I do recall someone mentioning something about losing the element of weapons placed on maps and stuff... well, the game doesn't necessarily have to lose that. There still could be standard weapons placed around the map and the game is bound to have new weapons or other weapons that do not fit into a class based system. Those weapons could be placed around the map and be switched around. You never know.

  • 07.04.2009 12:32 AM PDT

Why not give every class a assault rifle/BR for primary weapon and give the power weapon classes there weapon of choice(rocket/laser) and give them like 2 shot when they spawn and every x(3) amount of kill will get them one extra bullet for rocker/laser. like the class based perks. Didnt killzone 2 had a system that you could unlock other classes perks to make a custom class.

Dont if you guys know about Fear 2 system you get like a fixed amount of points and you can make your own weapon/armor lay out. Think that is much easier to balance then some class system.

Balance for rockets could be to make them slower so people get chances to evade them and laser longer charge time so those weapons become optional instead of instant spawnkilling weapons.

Five years older and wiser
The fires are burning, I'm fire, never tire
Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

What makes Halo excel where others fail is that everyone is equal. You start off with the same equipment and you have to fight to gain control of certain vehicles and weapons. This way theres a battle to gain an advantage.

The person with the new gain advantage must be able to kill and defend him self from losing it e.g. rocket or sniper R. If He loses it then its reset to even chances.

Halo's all about skill, not Spawning with ridiculous weapon combos, and pwning people. If Halo becomes that then we will lose the fan base and players.

Fail

First of all, the Spartan shields is stronger than the elites shields in the books, so 110% shield streangth at Elites are wrong.

Spartans should be able to carry more stuff than an ODST

Grunts runs to fast

Elites weights bit more than Spartans.

Perks:
1. Adrenaline: When taking heavy damage, movement speed increases by .5 .

3. Stunning: Have a 1/20 chance of stunning your opponent with a well placed shot.
Constant Effect: None.

1. Just Like Old Times: Magnum gets a 2x scope.
2. Wait, what?: All radars within 10m of you are disabled.
3. Now You See Me: when standing still, invisibility kicks in. You are invisible until you move or shoot.

I know it has been stated that these classes and perks are not like that of Call of Duty, but the end result of multiplayer would be the same. There are Halo fans out there and there are Call of Duty fans out there. I highly doubt Bungie would sell out and make a class based game just to win over some Call of Duty fans. Bungie has always tried their hardest to stay true to their oldest fans. Halo has always been a game where no matter who you are you can pick it up and jump right in. Another compelling feature about Halo is the fact that it's so competitive in the sense that everyone starts with the same guns and fights over the powerful guns.

If everyone started out with rocket launchers or sniper rifles, the old school Halo fans that think it would be cool to start with an Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle only to find themselves destroyed by a volley of rockets or sniper shots, thus turning the game into another CoD4 where instead of noobtubes and rpgs you see nonstop use of rockets and rather than juggernaut you see a perk that makes people almost impossible to kill. It makes the game lose all of it's drive if you have a class based game.

Halo's all about skill, not Spawning with ridiculous weapon combos, and pwning people. If Halo becomes that then we will lose the fan base and players.

But, besides the perks, you're not unlocking any new weapons. All the weapons are available to you from the get-go, just in the form of classes.

Also, nice to see people coming up with their own ideas. I mean, I will always have some sort of biasness towards my own but those are some quality ideas!

Does it make a difference really?

Not really, I'd prefer a MA5K if Bungie's including 'em in the game.

if you want a video rendered but arnt pro, message me :D

I really hope it becomes class based, Reach shouldn't be "just another halo game". It needs to be a mix of the halo we know and love with something new and original from bungie.

Halo 3 is an amazing game because of its simplicity, but I believe that Bungie can make a great class based game.

Hopefully bungie can make a "simple" classed based game.

Alright how about instead of classes that we know from the Call of Duty franchise they find a half way point? Meaning everyone can pick a certain class but each class remains somewhat well balanced. For example say Player A chose a generic Assault Class consisting of a generic assault rifle, whereas Player B chose another generic class, but this time lets say a Close Range Class with a generic shotgun. Now both of these classes are pretty well balanced when the players fight each other because they both have strong points and weaknesses the other player can exploit. Now rather than having a Rocket Launcher class or a Sniper Rifle class, those weapons will be available on the actual map for the players to pick up. This idea combines both traditional Halo style combat with the Class System that many gamers enjoy.

=)

I honestly don't know if this would be good or bad. All i can say is that i agree Halo need a game-changing element to keep it fresh. You have a well fleshed out idea and have somehow remained possitive and friendly to those more....'irritating', members. I can't wait till we get some solid info on this game!

BTW: class based was the first thing i thought of when i saw the banner too...
