I can't really tell every reason. The only thing I can think of is the huge difference between classes. I know, that's the point of classes, but it's just overdone.
And the Assault'perk, the getaway thing? That would be so annoying. A few seconds of invincibility even after you died? Really?
Maybe the whole thing would work, but I can't see how it would be better than how it is now. It would be like Rockets on the Pit: everyone is overpowered.

First off very well thought out post sanjeev and with a little work and testing predetermined classes could work in halo but the idea of creating your own classes in halo would require you to rebalance every weapon in the game if not you would have every team have one guy spawn with a sniper and one with rockets and two with brs assuming that its one power weapon one pistol or ar or some other sidearm.

see, perks and things aside, choosing you own weapons to spawn with is a bad idea. classes should never be incorporated into halo because im afraid the their will be too many games that just feel like rockets. every body has one. good idea, but no
I know what you guys are saying but I don't think the concept of a class-based system should be left aside just like this, because of those reasons.
They are extremely valid points, definitely. But that is in its current state. These classes were designed to play such that someone took Halo 3 and turned it into a class based game. When a game is designed to incorparate such a system, it'll be different.
That's why I tell people to instead of completely dissing it, to try and improve on the concept. If Halo: Reach or any franchise undergoes a change in gameplay design, no matter how small of big that change is, the developers always make sure they retain that similar feel.
For example, Banjo Kazooie, Nuts and Bolts. The idea was similar in the fact that it was a Platformer. Yet, with the shift of focus onto Vehicle Construction and using those vehicles the designers managed to change the gameplay pretty drastically without completely alienating their long time fans.
Same case here. If Halo: Reach is designed from the ground up to support classes, you know damn well that the gameplay will changed such that it will support classes and yet, feel exactly like Halo.
So, now, can we have some more proper discussion? We've been doing fine thus far and well, as a community member, I have to say, I'm proud of most of those who posted here, not devolving this into an insulting -blam!-hole of mess like a certain other thread on the Halo Reach forums has done.
