Subject: Haloize

Being an Elite is its own reward.

I don't know about you guys, but I believe that Halo: Reach, has more potential than anyone really knows.

Halo 3 to me was a bust. Don't get me wrong, it is a great game, but it pales in comparison to what it could have been.

Halo: Reach is a chance for Bungie to do with Halo, what they could have done with Halo 3. And that is to make the best flipping game ever.

But how? How can they make the best game ever? The answer is quite simple, but I don't think most of you will like it.

And that is to "Haloize" other games. Well, not entirely.

Halo: Reach needs to do what Halo 1 did; revolutionize how we play FPS. The basic gameplay remains the same, but other aspects are improved, scrapped, and redone.

Basically, take all the good qualities from other games (including Halo 1, 2, and 3) and make it Halo: Reach.

Imagine Halo with something similar to Far Cry's 2 map editor.

Imagine Halo with everything that made Halo 1, 2, 3, CoD4, etc. amazing games, all jumbled into one?

Especially when you consider the gameplay style is kept intact.

There is the quote that I forget who it is from, but here it is:

Everything that can be made, has been made
There is no way for Bungie to revolutionize Halo without using things from other games. I am not saying for Halo: Reach to be a a patch work quilt. But to instead gather the best qualities of other games, and refine them to fit Halo, and to be unique.

Now wait, what made Halo 3 a bust?
I do like your idea with the map editor from Far Cry 2.

No grenade cook or sprint, Spartans are always sprinting. Don't take things from the CoD universe. The games are boring and shouldn't infect great titles like Reach.

Agreed. Hopefully this thread will be met with less flaming. Look at Elder Scrolls, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, although that didn't change until the recent GTA IV, they all "feel" the same, but they have undeniably changed drastically. Halo has only made that drastic change once, and that was the change from Halo 1 to Halo 2. Halo 3 felt exactly the same as Halo 2, which as a result didn't deliver much immersion.

While I'm not a big fan of just simply copying and pasting another game's engine and just replacing the universe, I feel that there is no harm in taking a few things that worked well for them, for example grenade cooking and sprinting. Either way I hope there is that drastic change that never happened with Halo 3.

Actually Spartans aren't always sprinting. It says in the books they can run up to 30 MPH, and I doubt the Spartans are running that fast in the game. Grenade cooking is something most next gen shooters have these days, not just Call of Duty. Not including it would make Halo Reach feel "last gen".

That is more of a personal opinion.

However, you must agree that the beta was better (I am using this term loosely) than Halo 3.

The beta was much better. I don't know how, it just felt more immersive and had a lot more detail.

He means take some features out of other games such as grenade cooking (my example there not his) and put them into Halo. There is no point in keeping Halo dumbed down just because every other shooter has nabbed everything else.

But there are some suggestions that are going to be responded with a blatant "NO!".

I agree, grenade cooking is a great idea. I do hope Bungie adds this in. Suicide runs = cool.
Sprinting = NO!
Cover system = NO!
Class based = NO!

Grenade cooking is a simple feature that is not going to affect whether or not the game is balanced or fair.
Spriniting is just a total rip off from CoD.
Cover system is just plain horrible.
Class based makes the game unbalanced.

Come up with more neutral features that the game could have (like grenade cooking) that won't affect balance, or something that isn't a blatant rip off of a game.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

I agree, Halo 3 was a coulda-been. Let's hope Bungie pulls out all the stops for Halo Reach.

Exactly how I felt about Halo 3. There's just a huge list of what it could have been, which heavily outweigh the list of what is in the game already.

Halo: Marines:
This game is where you are a marine. It is a prequel, a prequel to even Spartans. So there won't be Spartans in the game, you face off against rebel forces. You get killed with a couple of bullets, and lets say for a feature, if you get a 3-5-10 kill streak you get something special, like, you can call up the radar, or a hornet flies in and gives you support fire. Awesome game idea, right? There would be fall damage because you are a marine, you can pick your weapons before you go into battle, like classes, and as you get more expierence you get better weapons.
Call of Duty?

Halo: The Flood:
You are 4 Marines, or civilians, who are trying to get from one side of the city to the other. There was this major flood invasion, and now you have to survive them. There are many more flood forms then we thought, there are some that can puke on you and make you more vulnerable or a higher priority target to the flood, and some that can grab you, and your teammates have to kill the thing holding you or you die.
Left 4 Dead?

:Halo: Sparring:
You pick a character, like, Johnson, or Master Cheif, or an ODST, and they fight hand to hand! They can shoot fireballs of course to spice things up.
Wtf?

Halo: New Mombasa:
So this is a sequel to Halo 3, aliens and humans are getting along, you are a civillian, and you are in the city of new mombasa. There are though gangs of covenant, and civilians, they rival each other, don't like one another. So you, are just trying to make it big. So you take missions from either one of the gangs. It is a totally open world enviroment, you can use any vehicle you want.
GTA4?

Halo: Apocalypse:
This game deals with what would happen if the rings actually did fire. But due to some minor difficulties, some life survived on this one planet. You are a person, and you have to trek out the land and try and survive this weird world where everyone is an enemy. This is a FPS or 3rd person game, where you take quests to retrieve weapons, or food. Totally open world explorable.

Fallout 3?

I mean, these are just some of my ideas, I'm so creative don't cha think?

Nobody sees...Nobody knows...

BE A HERO!!!

I definitely agree with everything you are saying. In call of duty, the aspect that made the multiplayer so great was that it was sooo fast!!! Sprinting, mines, perks, and everything else made the multiplayer exciting to play, and i dont mean to say that halo isnt fun or anything. halo is still my favorite game, but i have had a lot of my friends complain about how slow halo is. Bungie just has to be careful that they dont "copy" other great aspects of other games. If they do, the entire gaming community will have a field day ripping the game apart and calling it a call of duty look a like. If Bungie could find a way to balance speed, customization, and their AMAZING creativity, halo reach is going to be an breath taking game.

No, you don't understand at all.

I am not saying to make this game like others, but instead to look at what made those games stand out, and use some version of that in Halo.

Like the match finding system for Call of Duty 4 is amazing, use something similar.
Far Cry's 2 map editor, use something not as complex, but similar.
Halo 3: ODST's horde mode, keep that, let us forge our own ^

Etc.

I've always wanted Halo to have a proper map editor, with a universe like that the possibilities are completely endless. There are loads of great maps for Halo Custom Edition now. I think they'll keep Firefight anyway, if they're smart, because fighting against waves of Covenant is awesome, and something we never get to do. The matchmaking system in Call of Duty is much quicker than Halo 3's, although I have to be fair, Halo 3's is much faster than Gears of War 2's, which should've stayed the way it was in finding matches for Gears of War 1. Maybe an upgrade to the system should happen for Halo Reach, to make it faster in finding matches and letting us veto maps BEFORE they load, and not after.
