was there not already a ship in halo three that started with sierra? so it might be a ship
but also if you remember the level, sierra 117, it has to do with the MC and his being 117 so it could be a spartan.
but when he says WE have spartans on the ground, i doubt he is talking AS a spartan
EDIT: oh snap! i just almost contradicted myself. so as i said in another post on some topic, the military uses words instead of letters. so sierra, starting with S, could mean spartan. beacause it also starts with.... S haha so there is just one more reason it could be a spartan.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

No, Sierra is a codename for a fireteam, like Fireteam Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Zulu , ect.

Sierra is a combat strike team aboard the Pillar of Autumn, and since the Spartans were assigned to that ship in their original mission to capture a High Prophet; they have the code name Sierra before their name, as do Pelicans and squads from the ship too.

He says This is Sierra-259. You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere.

Since he said "we" that would imply that he is one of the Spartans that isn't going anywhere.

you are correct i was wrong. he says you've got spartans. so it is very probable that he is a spartan. but also i was just giving examples of how they could be spartans or not. i had'n chosen a side

OR...

It could be a Spartan inside a Pelican named Sierra 259, who is saying to FLEETCOM that he and the other Spartans are on the ground, and they're not going anywhere.

And those were Spartan IIs.

Wouldn't it make more sense then to say Spartan 259 rather than Sierra 259?

It's possible that they didn't want to let any potential Covenant eaves-droppers know that there are Spartans in the area (the generators?)

The Spartans' pelican was Bravo-001, so it wouldn't be their Pelican... and why would a Fireteam have numbering that high? Fireteams are composed of 2-5 people, generally (like Fireteam Zulu in Halo 1), not 259+ people, so the numbering would be lower (ex. Red Team was numbered Red-1 to Red-27, the same number as in the group)

They use Sierra in place of Spartan in Halo 3 also.
