This is the idea I have for the pelican, it had been reviwed and revised countless times.
And I remeber posting this for Halo 3, trying to make my little pelican fly.
But it was grounded.
Here are the Ideas I have.

Ahem....
For this new game Reach I would hope to have a very large map with more Xbox Live support, possibley 24-32.
The Pelican will be armed with a 40mm cannon used for offense, and it is controlled by the co-pilot. It would have a slow fire rate but have decent power, it would have small blast damage it would have a rear machine gun providing the passengers with fire support.
The pelican will have a crew of 2, and six passengers. [5 seated 1 rear gunner.]
You could hook up a Scoprion or Hog to the back, and one mongose inside of the pelican.
[Possible Idea, 1 mongoose at the cost of two passengers. and all vechiles couldnt not be used while in flight.]


It would be damaged these ways:
Any serious weapons Rocket Launchers, Spartan Lasers, Scorpion tank shots, if there is damage to the engines it will gain or lose altitude and have a harder time turning.
[Usefull to stop a flag carrier from getting away...and realistic!]
Ways to be destroyed.
3 Rocket hits [One to the cockpit or one to the engine to cause failure or serious damage]
2 laser hits [unless in the cockpit]
2 scorpion hits [unless in the cockpit]
1 Wraith shot [becasue we now how hard it is to shoot down aircraft with a wraith]

When the Pelican is critically damged, it won't blow up in mid air, but depending on the altitude it will flash a red light in the passenger compartment [pipes breaking and sparks add realism and extra warning] to get out and save yourself.
The pilot must eject the vechiles [if they are stored] or they will go down with the ship and be destroyed or heavily damaged.
[Pilot is doomed give him a salute while you bail]
When the damage is done the pelican will crash to the ground in an explosion

It is usefull to get your team from one side of the map to the other, and some strafing and vechile transport.


the same could be used for the phantom and to add to a more big battle feelling between the 2 species you could make human vs alien maps were aliens are elites and humans are spartans I like the idea of more people though pelicans vs phantoms = uber fun

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

Doesn't sound bad. Wraith could get a serious kill if it shot right into the passenger space of the Pelican. Driving a vehicle mid fligh is realistic. But if it's hooked t the bottom then you have to wait for the Pilot to release you. You could also get a Shot Down Medal for taking down the Pelican. The guns would have to be weakened for balance.

I'd like it in at least a single Multiplayer map. It'd be a little bit like the Elephants in Sandtrap. Except I don't think it'd be immortal.

I'd like to give it a try, yeah. I put my vote to it. Assuming the matchings are large enough that a pelican is a viable use of resources.

Let there be light, created from fire

I am all i am, i am a team player(when im not pissed), i make great strategies, i will punch you in the face after armor locking, you have to be at sniper distance to not get headshot by my DMR or pistol, wraiths beware, i am DxXOrangesXxD and i am ready to rumble! (When Halo 4 comes out cause Reach is nothing but crap players now)

I think the biggest problem would have to be the 24-32 player games which would create a ton of lag. Another reason is if you put the pelican in a map, you would have to make the map a colossal size, like Infinity from Halo:CE. This would make the ground infantry who don't have vehicles have to walk miles to get to the other base. These are probably the reasons Bungie does not want to release its holy grail.

Well, in the event that the pelican is only in CG and Campaign areas, the lag would be controlled if not completly eliminated as the internet server of which the host is playing on would be tolerable to such problems so long as it was maintained properly.

Ive always wanted to fly a pelican in halo, and i really hope that they eventually put this option into the new multiplayer, but as for the other issues that other people have mentioned, i think i know how those could be fixed...

first off, as for the size of the map, it should be HUGE. and i know that this would make the game very difficult and long for people who are on foot, but this is wat teleporters (like in coagulation on halo 2) and man cannons (like vahala) are for. all that needs tweaking is how far the man cannons shoot regular infantry... this could really help that situation.

Second, ive heard that it would take too much precision just to pick up a vehicle, but this could be fixed the same way people in halo pick up weapons or jump into vehicles. as long as the pilot steers the pelican to the general area of the vehicle, the option should pop up on the screen like, "press RB to pick up warthog" (or scorpion, or watever vehicle u r transporting)

this could fix alot of problems people have with it...

An excellent suggestion my friend. But there would be a complication with holding RB to pick up the veichle. RB is the button that you hold to enter and leave a veichle. So while picking up the veichle, the pilot would leave the pelican, rendering it useless. Instead of RB which is in use on the veichle control system, I suggest using the LB button. It is not in use for any veichle command so far and it would make things very convienient. You'd have your two index fingers near the left and right triggers anyway, so why not put both buttons to use as well.

the phantom would be easier, an extremely weakened Shade cannon on its chin, and a plasma turret on each side, players would just stand inside the phantom like we saw in Halo 2 and would picked up via the reverse grav lift under the Phantom, which we see The Arbiter doing after the third tower on The Covenant when he boards the green Phantom
can be taken down by shooting it 3-4 times with a Scorpion,2 times with a wraith or just blowing the heck out of its engines things with a rocket, missile pod, laser, turret

Well if bungie is goinb to make the pelican kill balanced then they have to make sure that the person who shoots down the pelican can't get to high of a kill medal and to little kills with it if the pelican is full. And they have to make some upgrades or downgrades to the pelican like in size, weapon power, speed and mobility.

But so far after reading all of the comments i read on here are rather good and with some adjustments could make a perfect pelican.

yeah and on the top right it could say pres LB to pick up and show you a model of the vehicle.

listen one of the pilots would probilbe be doomed to hell. but if 3 rockets hit the HULL of the pelli then it started to spin out of controll. then the spartan pilots would escape buy just simply punching out the windshield of the pellican and jump out.

and some sniper can snipe the pilots out of the cockpit and then on everyones screen (everyone whose in the pelican that is) it would flash on there screen NEW PELICAN DRIVER PRESS X. and for those who press X the spartan would climb out of the seat and drive the pelican in the cockpit. but the sniper shot would have to be percise.
