Before I get pelted by all the people who say Elites aren't in ODST, I just want to express my opinion on this topic and how Bungie could assess making Firefight better.

I think Elites should appear every five or ten waves, making them relatively rare/uncommon compared to the Brutes. When Elites appear, the likelihood of seeing Grunts and Hunters is increased while the likelihood of Jackals and Drones is decreased slightly, (a little nod at the Covenant Separatists), and obviously, Brutes won't be present during "Elite" waves.

As I said earlier, since Johnson is appearing, why can't Elites? In Canon, the Elites are at Delta Halo. Since Johnson is in "ODST" armor and the fact that ODSTs can wield Gravity Hammers and rip turrets off their mounting, you can say Firefight is "non-canon" so in my opinion, it is possible for the Elites to appear in ODST at least in Firefight. Putting Elites in ODST would increase the variety of enemies and useable weapons. For example, if Elites were in Firefight, the purple Plasma Rifle would be encountered a bit more and you could use the Energy Sword.

Now, basically, the Elite ranks should basically be the same from Halo 2, but only Minors, Majors, Ultras, Zealots, Rangers, and Stealth Elites should be present, with slightly updated looks (for Rangers and Stealth only). They would basically fill the role of the Brutes for one wave, then you return to fighting the Brutes until five or ten waves have passed.

Here is my take on how Elites would act:
Minors: Blue Combat Armor. Wield Plasma Rifles, Needlers, or Carbines. Seen leading Grunts and being led by Major Elites.

Majors: Red Combat Armor. Wield same weapons as Minors and lead them into combat.

Ultras: White Combat Armor. Wield Carbines, Fuel Rod Cannons, Plasma Rifles, or Energy Sword, but it is rare to see an Ultra with a sword in Firefight.

Zealot: Gold Combat Armor, act as the "Brute Chieftain." Wield Energy Swords or Fuel Rod Cannons. Stronger than any other Elite and can withstand a lot of fire. Leads Elite forces.

Ranger: Appearance based on the Halo 2 Elite Ranger, just improved. Act as "Jump Pack Brutes." Only wield Plasma Rifles and stay in flight using jetpacks.

Stealth: Bungie should develop new armor for the Stealh, but not based on the Assault Harness from Halo 3. A hybrid of the Commando Armor and Combat Armor would be nice, possibly a prototype of the Commando Armor. Act as "Brute Stalker." Wield Plasma Rifle or Energy Sword, extremely rare to encounter one with an Energy Sword though.

All Elites use Plasma Grenades and can man Plasma Turrets and rip them off their mounting.

Yes, I definintly like this idea, if ODST were to be delayed for this, I would get a 360 system for this game.

I am not sure but weren't the elites fighting with the brutes over protecting the prophets after the death of regret and brutes replacing them in the honor guard and escorting the prophets on "the great journey" At this time and beging there break off from the covenant armada?

Correct me if I am wrong I am just a little rusty on the time line.

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

I'm pretty sure that the Elites weren't betrayed until some time after the slipspace jump, so It actually makes sense.

no they shouldn't because halo odst starts 3 missions after halo 2 starts and that means that the elites are fighting the brutes and the brutes are fighting elites and then in firefight it would be a threesome and too much for 4 odsts to carry out tbh it would be spawn die spawn die spawn kill, die spawn continously and like 12 elites or 20 and 3 secptres then like 2 wraiths then hunters brutes jackals nah just to much to handle i want them in campaign but not firefight

BAH-WEEP-GRANA-WEEP-NINI-BONG?

Absolutely. They should add Flood too. Who cares what time line it's following, we should have an option to kill any Covenant enemy that crosses our paths.

  • 07.08.2009 4:38 PM PDT

ACTA NON VERBA

I'm not as keen on the flood being in firefight but elites would definitely be awesome. I'd rather they just randomly take the place of brutes sometimes in rounds, but what if you could edit the settings and change brute mode to elite mode? That would be interesting but i don't want ODST to be delayed for elites....unless they put a matchmaking on firefight too lol...

Aren't elites and brutes pretty similar in odst? (Having shields and all)

Make life rue the day it thought it could give EL1TE SUPR3MACY lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

I don't think they can even if Bungie wanted too. I don't think they're being left out because of canon issues, but simply because Bungie doesn't have the time or resources to create a sophisticate AI that can live up the Elite name in Halo 3.

It's not the same as adding Johnson, the Johnson model is just a new skin, this is an entirely new AI were talking about. Halo 3: ODST runs off the Halo 3 engine, so the AI for all the other enemies already exist, however a new one would have to be specifically created for Elites. It's not as easy as exporting the AI from the previous games, as the AI has to be tailored towards ODST's gameplay and be capable of flawlessly interacting with the environment. The Elites would have to live up the some high standards, as it is one of the most important and influential characters in the entire storyline. It's just too much for a small group of Bungie employees to work on (remember, most are working on Reach or some other project).

Personally, I'd rather have no Elites at all than bad ones.

I see your point. They could, and as I said earlier, that would lead to a delay in ODST's release. Now, if the AI was developed well, it would make Firefight worth playing and give players a challenge. Brutes in general, are probably easy/moderate enemies. If Bungie were to add Elites, they could either be moderate/difficult. The difficulty of fighting Elites would make them rare in appearance during Firefight.

I think Bungie should go for it. I'd rather have a delay for a game and in the end, the delays were worth it. However, I think that concept isn't always true. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was delayed twice, it was well-received by the media, but didn't match up to my expectations but I doubt Bungie would make the same mistakes as the developers of Brawl did.

I believe that elites and brutes should both be enemies throughout the campaign going by the timeline. in firefight however if it goes by waves idk maybe start with elites and then just have a mix of both elites and brutes throughout the firefight.

Halo 2 marine qoute, Random Marine to a elite: I heard you guys taste, just like chicken!

Back on Topic, if it can done, would you guys wait another year, (Or whatever time it takes to design, and program the elites) for elites to included, would you be willing to wait that long? Or simply go with nothing but the brutes?

  • 07.08.2009 6:15 PM PDT

Forum Rules for those who care to know what they are.

"Bs: Blame stosh for all of your BS!"

The Elites of Halo3 weren't meant to be enemies. Therefore, the gameplay would be very different than that of fighting a Brute. The game actually takes place I believe the night after or of the drop. Chief is at Delta Halo for a day or so. With that, the elites would already have had an uprising by the time you got out of the pod. That debunks Elite enemies in Campaign.

The Elites may not be in Firefight probably due to gameplay issues again. Also, they would tear ODSTs apart if they became violent enemies. Elites have always been dangerously mean at their full potential and would seem dull for gameplay since they were intended to be allies.

Well, I do agree Elites can be "hellish", as well as frustrating when they kill you over and over again, that is what makes them admirable, they are tougher, and stronger than you, but when you kill them, their is that feeling of satisfaction, that makes the struggle worth it.

This was my thinking. While it would be nice to have Elites, I'm pretty sure they can't do it. Unless of course they use the Brute AI for them, but this would of course mean that Elites would play the same as Brutes, thus making their addition unneeded. At any rate, it's a bit late for them to be adding things to the game anyway.
