If this has similar points to other threads, I apologize for the clutter but I am too lazy to read the hundreds of posts that preceded this one.

Playing through the campaign of Halo: CE was awesome. No covenant playability. I understand that in the spectrum of story-telling the use of multiple views into the story is useful. Also there will be no flood unless they jump around the storyline past Reach, which would be dumb.

I look forward to playing as a Spartan and possibly some ODSTs. With the lack of the covenant storyline (because not much was really known about them at Reach), maybe they will delve into the underlying distrust and distaste (by some) of the brass that have say in the goings on of the UNSC. Not playing as an Elite would be nice :)

For plot in the story, give more information into the back-story of the SPARTAN-II program and how it came to be. Did Dr. Halsey have bigger plans for the program? Was there a SPARTAN-I project? There has been a lot of speculation and I think that means that Bungie is doing a great job (It's like having episodes of your favorite show graze your television screen every week and almost salivating as the newest one clicks on!).

Stuff that should be in REACH imo:

Campaign:

-A Helljumper sequence (this will probably be in ODST, but I'm sure it will be so awesome we won't mind seeing more of it)
-Fighting in orbit (flying a Longsword or a Pelican)
-A planet getting 'glassed' cut scene and maybe visiting the devastation.
-Destructible scenery (something that you HAVE to destroy in order to get where you are going)
-Warthog flips (we all miss Halo: CE jumps, maybe make an achievement for LIVE utilizing one)
-Multiple paths to one point with different content and encounters (give us options, one way to get somewhere is very boring. This could also give some replayability to campaign so multiplayer isn't the only thing bringing us back)

Multiplayer
-SPARTAN-000 (with the recent developments that LIVE is supposed to come up with, develop a dynamic Spartan skin that can have your face overlaid; Xbox at E3. I was thinking something with Project Natal).
-Deployable camo (what a waste it can be sometimes to get active camo and not have anyone around to NOT see you. Decrease the effect time and make it deployable)
-More Pre-Loaded maps (maybe make Halo 3 downloaded content playable?)
-Hang 'em High 2.0 (lol, a guy can dream can't he?)
-fix Choppers, they are ridiculously OP in Halo 3 (more maneuverability than a ghost with comparable boosts in tight spots AND great firepower? wtf?!)
-make killing vehicles with lasers more probable (granted I've never wielded a laser, but does it make sense that a hit to the front of a 'Hog should kill the gunner?)
-battlescars (give a player with a glowing service record more than just a Katana they can't use and a medal that no one can see after the loading screen.)
-Tournaments (give us a reason to be on at a certain time that awards something for being there and something else for placing)
-Take out Elites (it was a fun idea, but it changed gameplay somewhat and certain characters have advantages over others. The Arbiter is no ally to the UNSC during Reach, so they shouldn't be there anyway)

Five years older and wiser
The fires are burning, I'm fire, never tire
Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

I like the Campaign stuff.

The face thing is stupid.

Deployable camo is a yes like in halo 3 campaign?
The service record should have your highest medals you've achieved on it, e.g Perfection extermination etc.

Elite should stay in, i dont like them, but still it gives a bit more variation. And i like killing dinos so.

I like hearing an Elite cry out in pain as much as the next guy, but based on the story it just doesn't make sense to have Elites fighting alongside SPARTANs in REACH.

I have a CRAZY idea, I'm out of my mind :
elites would fight humans and not be allied.

*rolls eyes* you dont like elites nor you liked playing as one (nor you like getting owned by elites in mp) so they have to go? hey bungie, jackchagu doesnt like elite!!! get you ass moving and get rid of em already!

I didn't set out to have a flame war about whether or not I like the Elites. I was just putting out the idea that Elites should not be included in the multiplayer because they have no alliance with the humans in the time period that the game would take place. If you would like to know, I do prefer to play as a spartan just because I like donning my Katana and wearing the armor that I chose. The placement of the Elites in the games thus far has made sense in the lore of Halo. No one has pointed out that I 'hate' the flood and I wish that they were never created... saying such things is ignorant.

Have you ever played Halo CE or 2. Elites were your primary high ranking enemy that led all others into battle.

Without them what would we fight? Brutes at the time were used as special forces and would only receive special jobs. So for half the game or more we would have no primary enemy.

I agree with you fully Bullet, the Elites were the enemy of the SPARTANs before. Why then would they fight WITH the SPARTANs? If the Elites were to have a place in multiplayer I would think that it would only make sense to have the FIGHT the humans.

I always considered the multiplayer to be a form of training exercise for the Humans. That's why they receive points for 'killing' their opponents, but the opponents always rose again. In a combat simulation for SPARTANs, how would Elites be present if they were not allied and training together?

Thats not what I said? I'm confused. You said fighting Elites didn't fit the timeline.

I said fighting Elites in multiplayer didn't fit the timeline. Fighting them on the planet and off-world makes perfect sense.

Honestly, I would rather talk about what should be added/removed from Halo 4 rather than the single idea I had about removing Elites from multiplayer.

  • 07.04.2009 5:48 AM PDT

why not make spartans vs elites online like cod you have marines/sas against terrorist/spetnaz

  • 07.04.2009 9:26 AM PDT

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Actually, the books fully explain the UNSC side of the story on Reach, I say a Covenant side HAS to be done. The Covenant's perspective on the battle of Reach would be great to see. As you say, noone understands the Covenant at Reach, well, let us understand them then.

And removing Elites from multiplayer is a bad idea, I know alot of people don't like them, but there are also a large chunk of them who would NEVER BUY THE GAME if it didn't feature them (those of you who DONT want them WOULD still buy the game BECAUSE your Spartan would still be there anyway.) If anything, they just need to slim the Elites down a bit, and raise their head up, to stand more like they did in Halo CE, but in a way that won't make them a full head taller than Spartans.

Okay, we get it, you love the Covenant, you have a bias opinion, cool.

The turth is noone has an un Biased opinion, you love UNSC, I love Covenant, the only way to make EVERYONE happy is to include both. So I say keep including both. (Its not like the Covenant fan community b*****s and whines about Spartans in multiplayer, or removing the UNSC campaign... We just dont want our stuff to go.)

Also, a covenant half (or even quarter) of the Campaign makes sense, because both sides won and lost battles on Reach.

I guess I agree with you Fos. At least about the fact that it would be interesting to find out about the Covenant perspective in the conflict on REACH. Also, I think you have a good idea about the Elites if they do in fact return. I don't care if they are in MP or not anymore, there are too many people that love the Covies now and I understand that. A change to their character modeling would be fantastic though. Moving their heads up and maybe making them shorter so that the MP would be more balanced and there would be no more dispute about headshots would be fantastic.

Let there be light, created from fire

I am all i am, i am a team player(when im not pissed), i make great strategies, i will punch you in the face after armor locking, you have to be at sniper distance to not get headshot by my DMR or pistol, wraiths beware, i am DxXOrangesXxD and i am ready to rumble! (When Halo 4 comes out cause Reach is nothing but crap players now)

Why elites are needed in halo
1: They are like the main symbol of enemy/and allied alien forces
2: having them for multiplyaer gives people twice as much individualism which makes players happy
3: making machinema(forgive my spelling)

and 4: they are the most original badass aliens ive ever seen

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I want 2 campaigns. 1 UNSC 1 Covenant. Games have gotten skimpy on the multiple angles recently.

One Sided gametypes could be made with Covenant/UNSC, but they would need to be balanced. Both sides should be able to attack and defend.

Honestly, I think that you sir are F*****G RETARDED if you want to COMPLETLEY take out elite. 1 MP is a NON-CANON thing and does effect canon at all. 2 i am a elite guy and always will, yeah i go into my ODST spartan or mark V spartan when i am sometimes bored of my elite but taking them out is stupid and would make alot of people (including me) very unhappy. 3 taking out a character will greatly reduse the replayability. 4 taking out elite will only worsen the game to it fullest extent. and last but most important...5, Taking out elites can only make you a spartan, wich means 0 custumization and that mean it just stacks up to all the other reasons above me. For you to go as far to REMOVE a elite is absurd and redicoulas and i understand if you dont want brutes in there but removing something is stupid. Elites are one of the main reasons for halo's success you know what just die :)

You need to read a little further and learn how to spell, for goodness sake man it puts a red line under the misspelled words.

I don't think that they should necessarily be removed, but if they stay around they should be balanced. Elites have some advantages and disadvantages right now, but I think that the Elite lovers wouldn't complain if the model was altered to make them have similar kill zones to the SPARTAN model.

holy -blam!- he said take them out as a playable character in multiplayer. does that make any sense to have them fighting with spartans before the alliance?

  • 07.06.2009 12:09 AM PDT

Thank you for at least seeing where I was coming from. Most people just read that and take offense to it. I even came up with an alternative to them being removed by altering their model, but I just continued to be flamed. Btw, I have other ideas in the OP, any thoughts on those?

if you go this way, then what about H2? elites and humans aren't allied yet, and yet you can play as both (in both mp and sp).
mp is not canonically accurate anyway (MC is the last surviving spartan, and yet there are hundreds of thousands spartans playing ...)
and yea, sorry for my aggressive behavior XD
but as said, in sp, you could have two campaigns that'd depict the same events from 2 perspectives. it wouldn't hurt, would it? it'd please (me) people that loved playing as a covenant in H2, and rednecks that think halo is a really cool guy.

Do you have some logic to back that up? There is no reason why we can't be Elites in multiplayer. STFU.

Bungie can do whatever they choose to in campaign. To continue with this tiresome explanation of my original logic, at the end of Halo 2 the alliance between the Elites and the Humans is formed. If you played the campaign them moved on to the multiplayer then it actually made a lot of sense why they were in there. Based on what I've read here, there would be a lot of backlash if the MP lost Elites and that is why I suggested altering the model so that they would have the same hit boxes as the Spartans.

Am I crazy or do the flames just get dumber and more prevalent every day, making for a hostile environment for all the people that want to have legitimate discussions about stuff that they care to talk about?
