I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Am I the only one who is confused as to why people are misreading the "Well, some of us made it" line from Cortana? If Cortana and the Chief didn't make it through the portal, Cortana would not have said "We made it through just in time." The word "we" indicates that she is collectively addressing her and the one she is speaking to/with, which is John.

Yes, the word "we" can be used even more collectively to address a group other than yourself, but even in that instance, the word "we" is including the speaker in that intended subject.

We don't know what necessarily happened yet, but Cortana thinks they made it through and that the Arbiter did not, and the fact that the Arbiter's half entered the portal first is highly inconsequential since neither we nor the Haloverse's Humanity knows a damned thing about how Forerunner portal technology works.

To take her statement in that light would be a huge contradiction to the English language, and I'm more confident in the story writers than that.

-The Pfhor in Marathon are said to be the first aliens ever encountered by Humanity. In the Halo universe it is the Covenant races.

You are wrong! In the halo universe, the first aliens encountered were martians! Once humanity won the war, The UN turned into the UNSC!

This game will take place before Halo 1 not after Halo 3.
The game will be about the last stand that the Spartans made before the fall of Reach which was planet that housed a major human military installation.
This is unless they try to pull some time warp brouhaha which is unlikely because Bungie has no need to mess up the space time continuum on purpose.

The tag line for the Reach game is "Halo Reach, Falls 2010"
In the trailer it tells you that you know how the game will end before it begins
and it mentions spartans on the ground. Well in Halo 1 we know for certain that there is only one spartan left so this game must take place before Halo 1. Based off the title of the game we can be relatively certain that is a representation of the historic battle described in the book "The Fall of Reach".

In the Fall of Reach, about half the Spartans were sent to the ground to do battle and all of them died, in fact even the ones not sent to the ground were eventually killed in another mission and only the Chief and Cortana are able to survive long enough to get to the Pillar of Autumn. If I had to bet my money then this game "Reach" is going to be about the Spartans who didn't make it back and the final battles they had before the planet was destroyed.

Stop all this conjecture that it takes place after Halo 3 or that it even has anything to do with Halo 3 at all.....From the images we have seen so far, it looks like there will be 5 Spartans including the Chief and we know that four of them will be dead by the end of the game.

The fall of reach is a prequel, not so far back as the forerunner or anything like that but definitely before Halo 1. You would know this if you read the first book in the Halo series.

The Hel-Blam!-? This post is about the planet in the legendary ending, not Halo Reach! Wrong topic!

This thread started out by proving that the legendary planet was NOT Reach like many threads in this forum seem to specify and it has grown. Please stay relevant when posting here. The best way to do that is by reading the posts.

Wow, you dont understand what happens to a planet once it's glassed. There is no life left on a planet that has been glassed by the Covenant, and there is no atmosphere. No atmosphere = no air. Oh, and the events of Reach and the end of halo 3 were a matter of about a month, maybe two.

Your argument is moot.

All your theories are belong to nonsense.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Brilliant find at the bottom of page 9, xSpartan 062. And yes, you are all going off the point. John and Cortana DID make it through the Portal etc etc.

Stay on topic guys...

Awesomeness will Ensue

OK kiddies, you all need a recap seeing as most of you are posting things that have already been discussed or things that are off topic an don't make sense.
First of all this is about the ending of Halo 3.
Second is that John and Cortana made it through the portal, whether Mendicant Bias had anything to do with this is unknown but we do know that he was on the Ark trying to do something to save the Chief.
Third I will recap another thing we already know, the planet is not Reach/Marathon. Reach was glassed and and Marathon is set far in the future with a different character. It's also unlikely to be Onyx as we doubt that the sentinels make those sorts of patterns.

Try to add on to this.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

The interpretation of the dialogue in the ending has been an issue for far too long, so I thought I might try to explain. First of all, dont split quotes apart if you're not absolutely certain you know what they mean. One sentence could easely contradict the one which is right after it. In this case "We made it through just as it collapsed" (the three of them, Arby, John and Cortana) and then comes the plot twist, "Well, some of us made it". Meaning that only the Arbiter made it through to Earth, as seen in the previous scene. Cortana can however only assume that he went through since he was in the front (see picture) he made it through jus as the portal collapsed, leaving them drifting somewhere in space.

@ xSpartan 062
The "shard" as you call it is a symbol that the Profets found on a human planet (dont remember which. Harvest?). With the new knowlage of what the sumbol meant, they could somehow activate the Oracle (MB). Im not sure if it was an object or if it simply was a code that they used, probably just a code though. However, it was found before "The Fall of Reach". Some profets, Tranquillity and.. entourage, had found out that they werent the reclaimers, the humans were. And so they satrted their holy war against the humans. This is also why Truth is named "truth", to remind him of how much he had to lie to keep the Covenant intact.

The image of Cortana flickering around in the corridors of installation 04 II is probably just a representation of how John sees her, but from another perspective, in other words "Cortana vision" from a third perspective. Remember, the arbiter can not see her. But how she has been able to comunicate with him I do not know, probably with radio waves of some sort.

@ Dathomsta
Nice recap, exept for the Onyx part. But you should make it stand out more. Maybe like this: RECAP!!!

It could be Onyx if the sentinels followed some protocol and reformed the planet

This is the second time someone has posted something like this. It isn't relevant and is considered Spam to the thread. Repost something like this in a Halo Fan Fiction or something but until you do that do not bother posting something like that in a serious forum. It isn't productive.

Great read with some great theories. However, I have to say some peaple have gone way off topic on this thread. Anyways, in my opinion its all going to come down to what bungie decides, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Good thread. However, it could be the Shield World from Ghosts of Onyx, provided the Spartans within found some way to disable its slipspace generators, like how the Chief disabled Halo's firing systems in Halo 1.

I like that theory, it seems possible seeing as the Battle of Onyx ended only a week before the end of the Covenant-Human war.

Exept Onyx wasn't destroyed... (I wrote following on another thread, and since I dont wish to rewrite my entire explenation, I'll just copy/paste it).

Btw, why do poeple continuously repeat that Onyx was destroyed/suddenly broke up into trillions of sentinels? As far as I know Onyx was buildt up by trillions of sentinels from the begining, and as for it exploding, it only says that the planets surface exploded, removing layers of rock and metal. It did so because of the sentinels combined firepower. Not a single sentence about the planetoid being destroyed. You mustn't forget that the story at this point is told from the UNCS prowler Dusk's perspective. A ship that was hiding from the Covenant armada behind one of Onyx's moons, and all their info from what was happening on Onyx came from their "Black Widow" satelites which triangulated images around the moon. But when the sentinels beams hit the moon they were destroyed, so the the Dawn "dumpheated everything" into the reactor and got the hell out of there before the moon (!) exploded. The portal in the "light room" however, was destroyed.

Note: Im not saying that Onyx is the "thing" in the Legendary ending.

this may have already been said, but Onyx WAS destroyed. the text says (and im quoting directly out of the book)

"Onyx shattered and the surface exploded into space."

'shattered' sounds like its destroyed to me...

Maybe it could be the foerunners homeworld.
maybe they wasnt whiped out. just sent to a different galazy out of the harm of the flood/ the rings destrucyion.
maybe thats where doc hasley and team saber are, in the core of the foerunner homeworld.

just my ideas lol.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Marathon was never a planet anyway. In the Marathon games it was the name of the ship you were fighting for in the very first installment. In Halo its a class of a ship. A Marathon Class Cruiser or something like that.
