I'm everywhere, I'm it.

You made some very good points, is there any proof saying that it is or isn't Earth?

The planet is metallic, the artificial sun, no presence of the Moon etc etc...

I definitely agree with your points. To add, reach had defined oceans and land masses. In the legendary planet all you can see is a metal like surface. In addition to no atmosphere (points at time travel theorists).

Exactly. I'm glad there's more common sense here than I initially thought.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

It's possible that there were numerous portals, each one-way, they didn't all have to filter in to a single exit at the Ark.

Is there any Bungie released pictures of the space around Onyx or any indication in the novels as to what the surrounding space was like? Because wouldn't it be possible that after the sentinels destroyed the Covenant and UNSC fleets around Onyx they would combine together to form the planet again? If so this time there obviously wouldn't be any oceans or land mass because it would have broken up into space when they initially seperated. Also doesn't it make sense that if they didn't make it all the way to Earth a likely destination of the portal would be the Shield World?

It all depends. I doubt the Sentinels would just form back together again.

Perhaps a Shield World but the Ark is a safe haven from Halo's fire, or so we know of...

I'd like to begin by saying that the rear section of the Dawn, containing John & Cortana, DID manage to make it through the Portal. Listen to the lines!

"I'm not sure. When Halo fired, it shook itself to pieces. Did a number on the Ark. The Portal couldn't sustain itself. We made it through just as it collapsed."

If they didn't make it through the Portal, then they would be dead...Simply put...
Actually they didn't make it, she stated the following....

"Well... some of us made it"

Which confirms that The Arbiter made it through the portal, but the otherside of the ship (with them in it) didn't make it.

No, you both interpreted this completely wrong, the Chief and Cortana don't even know if the Arbiter made it through, but we can all see that they didn't make it to the planned destination [Earth]. But they make it somewhere and my theory is that Mendicant Bias changed the trajectory of the portal while Forward unto Dawn was in it. Therefore the ship would be split in two and the Chief and Cortana float towards another shield world.

Mendicant Bias changing the destination for John was what I speculated in the OP.

This is simply an observation and it is probably wrong but if you play through the last level of Halo 3, right when you get to sgt. Johnson's Worthog if you look up you can see the Ark and in the center is what appears to be a planet with a chunk blown out of it and under the crust it appears to be metallic rather than dirt, could this be the planet that we see in the Legendary ending? As I said I am probably wrong but even if I am I still would to figure what this planet is.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

The Constellation of stars near the Legendary planet reminds me of another constellation in Halo fiction: The Lights of Helios. Is it possible the planet is Sangheilios only (like Cortana said) many years after the war, when the Elites and Humans have built up a good peace. Considering Sangheilios was a planet with a wealth of forerunner artifacts and relics. AND Elite culture demands that these figures only be worshiped, never touched or modified in any way. Is it possible those forerunner structures are just the ones that remain on Sangheilios?

Perhaps. However, Sangheilios is a word not too different from Earth when viewed from space, there are deserts and large oceans dotted with many land-masses.
If there is a Halo game explaining the aftermath of the events of Halo 3, it probably won't be set it the far far future.
What did Cortana say?

I think people misinterpreted the end of Ghosts of Onyx. I believe the "Planet being the sentinels" was a way to described what Onyx looked like when the Sentinels overpopulated the interior of the planet, causing it to tear apart... A Metaphor.

Cortana said it would likely be Years before they are found.

But it also makes sense that it would be years before they drifted into something (space is VERRRRY wide open.)

Anything is possible but I doubt it is many years after the war because that would involve time travel unless we are seeing the Master Chiefs ship many years after the cutscene, which I doubt Bungie would do. Also I would consider since Sangheilios is the Elite's homeworld it would be booming with life and from the Legendary Ending it seems the planet is dark and quite devoid of life, at least the part of the planet we saw.

At this point I would be more willing to go with the more 'accepted' idea that the planet was literally made of Sentinels, due to the fact that there really isn't much information on the topic if it would have been a metaphor.

Well yes space is very wide open but if they were redirected while in the portal, or given John's amazing luck it is not too astonishing that they would run into another planet wherever they left the portal at.

Yeah. The text in the book literally referred to the planet as being made of trillions of Sentinels.

This game will take place before Halo 1 not after Halo 3.
The game will be about the last stand that the Spartans made before the fall of Reach which was planet that housed a major human military installation.
This is unless they try to pull some time warp brouhaha which is unlikely because Bungie has no need to mess up the space time continuum on purpose.

The tag line for the Reach game is "Halo Reach, Falls 2010"
In the trailer it tells you that you know how the game will end before it begins
and it mentions spartans on the ground. Well in Halo 1 we know for certain that there is only one spartan left so this game must take place before Halo 1. Based off the title of the game we can be relatively certain that is a representation of the historic battle described in the book "The Fall of Reach".

In the Fall of Reach, about half the Spartans were sent to the ground to do battle and all of them died, in fact even the ones not sent to the ground were eventually killed in another mission and only the Chief and Cortana are able to survive long enough to get to the Pillar of Autumn. If I had to bet my money then this game "Reach" is going to be about the Spartans who didn't make it back and the final battles they had before the planet was destroyed.

Stop all this conjecture that it takes place after Halo 3 or that it even has anything to do with Halo 3 at all.....From the images we have seen so far, it looks like there will be 5 Spartans including the Chief and we know that four of them will be dead by the end of the game.

The fall of reach is a prequel, not so far back as the forerunner or anything like that but definitely before Halo 1. You would know this if you read the first book in the Halo series.

You realize if you look at Earth during the night time from far away it looks the same, and then when dawn breaks it looks LESS booming with life than the Legendary ending right?

1. Where is your proof, for all we know its set on Reach after Halo 3, no-one knows where it is set.
2. By the end of Halo 3 there are more than 7 SPARTAN II's and several squads of SPARTAN III's, you obviuosly haven't read the books.
