Hello, This is Funnymann1 I'm not a regular topic poster but I felt the need to post this. Please enjoy.

We all remember the days of Halo 1 LAN parties and playing the campaign over and over again. Well, some of you may remember that in Halo 1 you were unable to do "fly" towards your enemies to melee them(I say fly because you can press melee from 15 ft away and hit the person). In Halo 1 you needed to actually get up close into your enemies face and hit them. I found this to be quiet an awessome addition to the game and feel it changes the way you play game campaign wise and in multiplayer.

I would love to see this be used in Halo Reach considering also you are a Spartan who is in the same suit (and of the same physical capabilities of Master cheif).
I ask the community what do you think of this idea?

H1's melee had the same range as the melee lunge in H2/3, but it just took skill in H1 since the computer wasn't making the connection for you. You had to time and lead your melee's right... and if not, you die. This is the best possible melee system. Bring it back.

I agree, the lunge should be eliminated in favor of a system where you need to time your melees correctly to score a hit.

On a side note, Halo 1's melee range was about the same as the lunge range in Halo 2 and Halo 3.

From what both of you had said I guess that the melee lunge was the same but I was playing Halo 1 last night and I had experienced no lunge. My character would not lunge to an enemy I had to run to the enemy and smack him.

I don't think the Halo 1's melee should be brought back. Seems like it'd only be suited for the more hardcore players, as you'd have to be more accurate with your melees.

Yes because a huge lunge with lock-on that creates a horrible melee fest is a good system. While we are at it lets remove assassinations and replaced with one hit kill melee, Its not fair I should have to aim and hit someones back to score a one hit kill.

At least someone understands the need for a melee system that requires you to line up a hit.

Yes not only is the current system too easy it puts a massive skill cap on the game. I can only be so effective with melee because ultimately no matter what I do you will just come hurtling at me like a missile. The same with all the autoaim and the crappy ranking system. Good players and bad players are only slightly different in Halo 3.

In Halo 3 I believe my 3rd weapon of destruction is melee. Why? It is because the normal tactics of a game in Halo 3 is run shoot get close melee. REPEAT. I find it ridiculose also at how bad (as you stated) the ranking system is and how you are giving ridiculos amounts of auto aim. If Bungie where to create a ranking system that works, a good melee system, and less auto aim I can see Halo Reach being a great hit for old and new fans of Halo.

There is no lunge, but what I'm saying is that the range of the melee is about the same as the lunge melee in H2/3 (saying that removing the melee would not mean that meleeing would be as hard as trying to melee a teammate to death in H2/3)

Okay I understand what your saying. But, my suggestion still stands as it was. Changing to the Halo 1's melee system would cause it to be harder to melee an enemy thus causing the game to play a little harder and add an element of actually trying to kill your enemy at a distance instead of rushing if your not good with melee.
