Explain how ranked playlists would work or ranking system that makes since. What would happen to MLG, it feels like u guys just think about possibilities and forget about how it would be to get smashed in close combat just cuz the guy plays as a brute, how a spartan outruns u cuz u cant sprint as good cuz u r elite/brute or how elites and spartans can jump over obstacles that brutes has to run around u need 2 rethink man... and if ur a fan how comes that u want to make halo into something CoD/WoW. i do lissen and answer to ur ideas but i get the feeling u r one of those guys that prefer infection and big team over MLG and Team Slayer...

God dude, seriously. Read some of the theories around. Hell, the thread I made about the Class based system has not only my own but other fantastic ways for a class based system to work by other dudes.

And, I hate to say it but yea, I love Infection and Hell, I love Big Team. If you're playing Halo and you're only playing Team Slayer and MLG then I'm sorry but frankly, I think you should just quit or at least take the effort to experience what halo actually is.

I had some respect for you. But with that one line alone, you proved to me you know nothing about Halo.

I'm sorry folks. I try not to be rude here. I try to be the role model, as much as I can be. But there's a line, right? When people cross the line, I stop playing Mr. Nice Guy.

Reach will be an entirely different game from halo 3 because more than half of the weapons where not even invented yet such as your precious Battle Riffle

Weapons? That's not a big change. There could be other weapons with the same up- and downsides.

Um all of what you stated was an opinion. Exactly like the people who post that they want this or that feature. I've been playing Halo since Halo 1 and i would personally like to see a class based Halo. Don't tell people what to think.

EDIT Title reminds me of a certain guy on youtube. ;)

Yes, a class based Halo would be cool, AS A SPINOFF. This is a direct game, it is (multiplayer wise) Halo 4. So we need things mostly the same, Class Based should be a spinoff like Halo Wars was.

I'm thinking this would be better for ODST because it would fit in with the squad based system. Each member of the squad would have his own specialization. But, I mean in Campaign, not in multiplayer.

It would be good as a spinoff too

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Hear hear!
I really hope that Halo doesnt change too much, cause if I wanted change Id just play another game. Hope that Bungie makes something new after Reach, let Halo rest for a while, it deserves it.

EDIT: although I do support the knife (as just another weapon, even if it suckes) and giving the different armor permutations various specialties doesnt sound too bad either (but I dont want more then about five). The helmets could have different default zoom, making some more suitable for sniping and some better for close combat.

Exactly now thats my point sanjeev ur ideas works for simple players that enjoys playing social all day long and a simple game play with no extremes or titans. U r a low rang cuz u play the game 4 fun like many other players but there is people that wants 2 take the game 2 the next level and with ur class system that aint gonna work. With ur system people will have a harder time getting skilled since its uneaqual talents and possibilies thats why it only would work if every one, how should i put this, "suck".( im not sayin every one that plays social suck) There wont be any true skill and no such thing as earned rank but fine ur a guy that plays the game on a low level fo fun u do that, thats fine by me, but u forget about the rest af the 70% of the halo players. And dont hate on stuff i havent written i play social sometimes and i dont have anything against BTB or social...

They already said that they'd do that after Halo 3, right? I think they'll do it after Reach. Maybe continue Marathon, or create something new that looks like it.

Levathian, if you play the game for any reason other than fun, you're dumb. Playing for fun and playing social isn't the same.

Good post, the people who want Halo to turn into your typical squad based fps are the people who cry in matchmaking when they die. They then go to play CoD then rant on the Bungie forums, about how bad Halo is and that it should be more like some other game.

The majority of the weapons in Halo 3 have been around since the beginning of the Covenant-Human war.

The entire MA5(assault rifle series) and M6(pistol series) have been around for quite some time. The MA5K was around before Reach fell. So the MA5C(Halo 3) and M6C(Halo 2) could actually be in the game.

The M7 SMG was around way before the Covenant showed up.

The BR55 was being field tested back when the Covenant made contact with humans.

IM not sayin that now am i, what else would i play for but fun what im tryin to say here is that classes would destroy ranked and more serios playlists. but u guys get angry instead cuz u never play them, dont care about them and dosent like good players that really reflect over how a classed based Halo would affect overall game play cuz all u think of is how to expand one playlist and u dont care about any of the others.
We r trying to discuss something not hate on each other..

Really? You just said I suck at Halo and that we don't care about half of the game. In the same post, you called yourself a good player.
Nice way to start a discussion, no?

You're missing the point. He's not saying put new graphics into Halo 3 and call it Halo 4, he's saying don't reinvent the game. Like, we don't need pelican support after 7 kills, like so many people are suggesting.

And if you really think Halo 3 is just Halo 2.5, you clearly never played Halo 2 on Xbox Live during its prime years
I think you too are missing the point. He's referring to gameplay. Halo 2 and 3 were nearly identical save for a few new weapons and equipment. Obviously pelican support would be stupid, and stealing a mechanic from another game. Although who's to say bungie doesn't want to go into another direction with the Halo games. Bring in the true bar for next gen gameplay. I assure you, if there isn't anything new in future Halo games people will stop buying them. They want something new when they buy a game. Not the same old same old they saw in the previous games. Whether that's something as big as a gameplay overhaul or a simply a new feature. Just because you guys are "long time fans" doesn't mean we have to think exactly the way you do. (Authors note: I've been playing since Halo CE so don't pull that one)

If you put it in that perspective than they can't make Halo class based, because that's the same old with new generation games. You say you want something different? Play one of those games and don't make Halo the same as them. You want a different game, well Halo IS different, and it doesn't need to conform to the failness of new 'next gen' games, where every game is the same WWII setting, with the same weapons, same kind of class systems, etc. Some people play Halo because it's different from those games. I, and apparently a whole lot of other people, like the current Halo experience and would rather Bungie keep building on it the way they have in the past rather than try and make it more like other franchise games that it's not. I agree with the original post 100% and wouldn't have Halo going in any different direction, or played any other way than it is now (With the few obvious exceptions that they'll fix some things, add some new stuff, take out the bad, and revamp the series into a whole new, different yet STILL the Halo we know, experience.)

A class system was simply a personal want, but that's just so i can have mah sniper. :) I'm not saying make it unrecognizable, but we need to make room for the inevitable changes. Microsoft will milk the cow until the milk stops coming. I would hate to see the game have all this garbage like cover system, perks or traits, or pelican support. On the other hand though if Bungie was going to change something drastic, you can be sure it wouldn't be a copy and paste from another game. They always innovate, and i have no doubt we'll be seeing a great game despite what is or isn't added.

  • 07.05.2009 11:13 AM PDT

I still think a class based multiplayer game would be great. I don't care if it's one game mode either. It's not like it would ruin the game. Like I've said before I'd just like to feel like a Spartan for once, and less like a clone. Everyone starts with the same weapons, every moves the same, has the same stats. Everyone IS the same. The only difference is appearance and skills within the game, the problem being that nearly every game it's the damn BR and AR. Where is the Carbine? The Carbine is MY weapon of choice, and I only ever see it on Guardian and Sandbox. It would be nice if they either make a new game mode for creating a unique spartan with his/her own advantages and disadvantages in battle, along with the ability to pick from an approved list of weapons. I mean, I know if we could choose ANY weapons to start with there would only be 3-4 that were used. I guess what I'm saying is I'm tired of Halo multiplayer being a race to the closest weapon of interest, then that evolving into a fight amongst children. I don't even go for the sniper rifle anymore because as soon as I pick it up there is some kid ready to betray me for it, and ready to waste all of the ammo trying to hit someone.

Having played Halo for years I totally agree. Keep cover systems in games like Gears of War. Keep class customization in games like Call of Duty. If that is what people really want then they can go play those games. OP, you are IMO correct in saying that adding those things will make Halo something else and not the Halo that has dominated the gaming landscape for years. I personally don't find Halo 3 stale because it hasn't changed much since Halo 2. Having played over 3,600 games of both Halo 2 and 3 I can say that the games have definitally changed. Suttle changes have been made keeping the game fresh while still keeping the Halo feel to the game. Anyways, that's just my two cents.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Ugh... Why has this thread become a discussion on whether we want a class based system or not?! I appreciate people trying to get their ideas into the game and everything but it seems that the class system is the only idea being discussed right now. And why is it when people say they want Halo to change they automatically assume that we want something ripped directly out of another game? When I say change the game I mean something similar with what they did with GTA 4 from GTA 3, MGS 4 from MGS3, Fallout 3 from Fallout 2, Elder Scrolls IV from Elder Scrolls III, and many other games that have evolved with the time, in both gameplay and graphics, while keeping their same traditional feel.

Natal would completely ruin the experience. Im guessing you through the ages of 12-15. Maybe younger. Go play with your wii.
