There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

Hey, just a quick bone I've decided to throw at the community. Some guy on the forums just got me thinking about in-direct fire and the huge lack of it in Halo 3. Practically every weapon in Halo 3 has direct fire, the only exceptons being the Wraith, grenades (Duh) and perhaps the brute shot. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any other form of morter style weapon. Those three I just described really aren't enough

So how about it? Perhaps revamp the missile pod into a mortar? Or myabe the rocket luncher or fuel rod cannon? Or maybe some new weapon, that isn't quite as explosive, but still in-direct.. Post your thoughts here.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I use the Wraith as a bombardment weapon all the time. It gets kills and keeps the enemy on their toes wondering where the death ball will come down next.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

In head to head combat you don't need motar weapons. Especially such fast paced combat. I mean, yeah, in Gears of War there is the motar gun, and everybody loves it, it is da bomb, literally.

But that weapon works for Gears of War because combat is so slow. There is no need in multi-player for a gun, where you see your opponent fire and expect them to stay in the same area for however long.

I don't see how in such a fast paced game series like Halo, a motar weapon is going to work.

Couple of flaws there I'm afraid.

Firstly, Halo isn't as fast as you think. In fact, it's about as pacy as GoW2, mainly due to shields.

Secondly, at which point did I say that mortars where slow? They can be fast as bullets and rain down on your enemy like exploding hailstones. They'd be brilliant for Halo because you'd have your opponents fleeing for over-head cover while trying to fight off your allies at the same time. It would be a great weapon, with a large tactical advantage, although you'd have to make sure you didn't kill your allies too, giving it a good balance.

But then you bring other things into consideration, how do you balance this weapon? Would it be to big of a surprise, would it be an almost instant kill like the rocket launcher? How accurate would it be? How would you operate where it goes? How would it work underground, if you fire it underground will it kill you automatically? What is the splash damage of the weapon, is it too much? If you did betray your teammates with it, which would be likely if it was a powerful weapon, then would you get booted, how often would boots happen because of this weapon? If too balance the weapon and to not cause to much betrayal, the weapon is weakened, would it even be a good weapon to use, or would it be useless? What happens if you fire it too far, what are the parameters on the weapon? If you are on a big map, could you fire as far as you want, or does it have those parameters? If it doesn't have parameters what is stopping you from firing out of the map, making the gun useless again? Would you be slower when holding this gun? How much ammo does the gun have? Is it like a turret where it has infinite ammo when on it's tripod?

These are balancing issues, and overall issues with a "Motar gun" that you have to consider.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Like the missile pod turrets? Eh, maybe. I would prefer a Gauss turret though.
