I don't think so. I may be wrong, but I think the reason installing the disk on the hard drive is not recommended is that Halo 3 was programmed before the Xbox 360 update. Because they never considered the effects of such an update, the programming simply isn't ideal for execution off of the hard drive. They can't change the matchmaking programming on the ODST disk without splitting the whole community in two, and thus the ODST disk will still possess the same inefficiencies as the original game, and won't run optimally from the hard drive.
