lol dude what are you talking about?? Microsoft might have said that but it is still worth it without the maps

I wish I was next to you right now, so I could spoonfeed you this information.

MS SAID THAT ITS NOT WORTH $60 WITHOUT THE MAPS.

Just like I said in my previous post. They said the ONLY reason it was worth it was because it has Halo 3's multiplayer and old maps. If it weren't for that, it would cost less.

Well got to admit it's kind of a ripoff... But hey, I'm still buying it. :D

ugh i'm tired of saying this. microsoft can say what they want. the value of the game to me is still 60 dollars. you might think otherwise. FINE stop crying about it. Just don't buy the game if you think ypu're getting ripped off. well i'm getting tired of repeating myself so i'm gonna leave this forum. I;m sure you'll say that i'm running away from it because i know you're right and i have that "feeling" in my stoumach (sepelling) (hahaha idk wut ur talking about!) and i'm sure you just can't resist getting the last word so go ahead, shoot.

I'm tried of saying this too. MS published the game. They are the once that decide price. They decided that ODST is not worth $60 without the maps. You say that it is. But clearly it isn't.

You say it is, that's your opinion. It NOT being worth $60 is a fact. Because those that set that price tag said so themselves.

I'm just trying to prove that it's a fact that IT IS NOT WORTH $60. And you thinking that it is, is an opinion. A dumb one at that.

That's all I'm going to argue with you. You can't be helped.

Has anyone here actually played the campaign to know how long it is. The info released a year ago doesn't necessarily apply. Bungie has stated that it sort of grew from an expansion to a full blown game(minus multiplayer.) Considering Bungie spent 3 years on each part of the Halo trilogy, and 2 years on ODST, that seems like a fair prospect that will deliver a full campaign. You people are under the impression that Bungie somehow owes you. They don't. Sorry to break it to you, but they are a business. A business's main goal is to make money. Bungie doesn't have to compensate you for anything. Are you suggesting a better alternative is to have not bought any of the maps, and just wait for ODST to come out? You are, by no means, obliged to buy or play any of Bungie's games, so if it's such a big deal, don't get it. Simple as that.

1. The 3-5 hour thing was released three months ago

2. They had a very small team working on ODST. 2 years is probably close to 1 year compared to the other Halo games.

3. We didn't know ODST would charge you for the maps. If we did, we wouldn't have bought them in the first place.

Not getting it isn't simple. We want it, if we get enough support they can lower the price just like they lowered it to the UK people.

All you people that say "DUN GET IT LOZLASL" are just out of a non-pathetic argument and don't know what else to say. If your pathetic excuse of a brain can't muster a good thought out argument don't come on here at all.

I don't recall ever saying "DUN GET LOZLASL". I don't even know what that means. And apparently my pathetic excuse for a brain can actually debate a topic without flaming incoherently and making myself look like desperate retard. At this point in post-production, they won't lower the price. You said it yourself. You want it. They won't lower the price. What you are trying to attempt is almost as stupid and desperate as the L4D2 boycott. You have never played ODST. You don't know how much content went in it. You don't know how the price was factored out. How the hell do you know how large the team that worked on it was. And please show me this statement that was released 3 months ago about the game's length.

Edit- Sorry for the rudeness. The brain comment struck a nerve. But I'm chill now. I'm cool. Let's have a nice clean, argument.

They did lower the price for UK (while it's in post production). Why won't they lower the price for Americans?

The difference between us and the l4d people is that they don't have good support. That's what I'm trying to gather right now. Support. But many of you are lacking intelligence to stand up for this exploitation.

Also i do know that the content in ODST is not enough in itself to constitute a $60 dollars price tag. Bungie said so themselves, and they were practically finished with the game when they did. If they weren't, then estimating a price would be pointless wouldn't it? Three months isn't enough time to add any type of content that would make up for its price tag. So they added the halo 3 maps and multiplayer. But I already paid for that, so that means that I'm paying for something twice does it not?

EDIT: I will try my best to get you proof on the 3-5 hour thing and the small development crew. Even though this is common knowledge, I'll try my best.

Honestly, If you don't want it, don't buy it. I don't see why you need to complain over it. If you do want it, buy it, and stop being a little baby because you need to spend an extra 20 dollars on this awesome game.

I don't understand why you can't accept this simple fact:

If you don't want to "waste" your money, don't waste your money. God.

i too was unimpressed, because those lazy to pay get it for free? thats shameful, i hope we get bungie pro for this

lazy to pay, or unwilling to pay? people should of relised that this would happen after a while, the maps will either become:

1) cheaper
2) free
3) released in a bundle (such as the new gears of war 2 update or ODST)

if it really bothers you that much try and sell your extra disk on ebay or something, or give it to a friend.

I recall the 3-5 hour thing, but that was back in 08. Also, I just looked it up. All major retailers in the UK have upped their price to the equivalent of 60 dollars except one, which has it priced at 50. Also, the L4D2 group has like 15,000 members. How many do you think are willing to boycott ODST. From a business perspective, the ODST price makes sense.(which is why Microsoft made it). It makes more money, and introduces new players, to the legendary Halo 3 multiplayer at "no extra charge". Have to at least respect the Bastards. It does warrant the price tag for new players. For us... not so much. Still, -blam!-in about it to Bungie isn't gonna do much. We need to -blam!- to microsoft.

I'm not -blam!-ing at bungie. I'm -blam!-ing at everyone in these forums to see that it's being overpriced. We're paying for something twice, and until Bungie gives us more news on the length of it now, I'm still going to say that ODST in itself isn't worth $60.

Also, when MS was asked by kotaku why the price had gone up, they said it was because it was loaded with content (including the Halo 3 multiplayer and maps), which means that they're charging for them. I don't find that quite fair. Why should I pay for something twice?

No, no. I agree with you. But from a business perspective it makes sense. It probably isn't worth $60 to someone who plays Halo 3 regularly. But to newcomers, its a golden deal. And it isn't fair. But nothing we can do about it. Even the UK upped their prices.

Alright, Im looking forward to ODST and Im sure it will be a great game. Also for newer players who dont have Halo 3; they get the Halo 3 Multiplayer disc to use, awesome right?

No, its lame. Because that disc is going to have the downloadable content that others had to pay for, I personally was pissed when I payed for the Heroic maps only to have them come out for free a few months later.

All Im saying is that if somebody who already has the maps buys the game, they should get something "extra" or a refund in ms points. Paying 10$ to get 3 maps (5months?) before other people is not worth it.

Suck it up! We all have to deal with it. The main reason for the DLC being included is so people that can't get Xbox LIVE can play on the new maps. I've been invited over to friends' houses so that they can play the maps they can't get. Think of it as the Halo 3 Multiplayer Map Pack and how many more sales will be made just for including the DLC on a second disc. We still get online Firefight and Campaign, something they will still not be able to experience. Yes you're paying for maps twice, so what?! You already plunk down thousands of dollars on new games and consoles and online play, so what's an extra 60 to 100 bucks? The thing is, you take your online play for granted. I do as well (and win every match against offline players) but at least I can see the truth and not complain about it. I'm paying 70 dollars because I live in Canada and I really don't care. So why do you complain about it? If you don't want to pay it, don't buy it. Simple as that. You willl never change the price so either stop complaining and pay for it or sulk about the price and don't buy it.

  • 07.05.2009 5:02 PM PDT

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

we got the maps earlyer....and those to lazy to get 10$ out there pockets, get it for free...

the mythic pac 2 should only be playable if you have purchased the other map pacs.

There is something we can do

Yea well that's not really something we all can do. I'm gona give up because you convinced me theres nothing to do. but we all agree that it is being overpriced, right?

If someone doesn't agree it's being overpriced, post here.

ODST is going to be a rental for me. I just don't see myself paying for content I already paid for. If it does prove to be a "must have" I will mos def get it used from gamestop for a tiny bit less and to also keep M$ from getting my moneez. I hate gamestop and how they do things. I think it is really F'd how they cut the throats of many hard working devs by selling once purchased product for only $5 less than new. Whenever I buy new games there they always try and push their used products on me. I tell them no and buy new to support the devs. Seeing how this "NEW" game was slapped together quick like on an "OLD" H3 engine for expansion purposes and then M$/Bungie adding to the cost by repackaging maps/MM I already bought and paid for, I don't feel bad about Bungie/M$ getting no money from me. If I do buy it it will be the first time I back gamestop with regards to "New" used games. If you are conflicted as I am with regards to this title I suggest you go about getting this game the same way I will and cut M$ out of mad profits and save yourself 5 measly bucks in the process. They try to get me but in the end they are the ones who gets got. I would have easily payed expansion prices for an expansion. Now Bungie/M$ gets zero from me and GS may get $55 depending upon my impression from renting. There are ways to avoid "taking it from behind". I for one ain't gonna get screwed by No D S T.

From Joystiq

Back when Halo: Recon was announced, and before it became Halo 3: ODST, both Brian Jerrard and Joe Staten at Bungie separately stated that the game wasn't going to be a full retail experience. Staten said, "We do not view this as a $60 title," while Jerrard remarked, "I think this is going to be a good value and a lot of content but we're not viewing this as sort of a full game release in the sense of Halo 3." When pressed further about pricing, Jerrard said that it was too soon to tell, but that they were thinking of something "value-oriented."

We contacted Bungie and Microsoft for comment today, because when pricing was revealed at E3, we didn't get an explanation for the full retail approach. We've noted that retailers are pricing the game at the standard $59.99 price point, the $99 Gamestop exclusive premium pack being the lone exception.

A Microsoft spokesperson responded to us and said, "At the time of those statements, the overall scope of Halo 3: ODST was not yet finalized, and since then the project has grown increasingly more ambitious. We believe this standalone experience is much more than just an expansion. Halo 3: ODST provides a new campaign from the point of view of an entirely new character. Combine that with three new multiplayer maps, the entirely new cooperative mode called Firefight, and the complete Halo 3 multiplayer collection on a standalone disc, we feel this is a good value and tremendous addition to the Halo franchise."

============================================================= ===========
Ergo. Bungie wants ODST to be cheaper, Microsoft says no, so Bungie adds things to justify the price.

Dont complain to Bungie.Complain to Microsoft. They said it would have to be sold for full price.

  • 07.05.2009 7:07 PM PDT

Blame MS for making you pay for the maps. Most developers tend to want their DLC to be free, but the companies are just too greedy...

  • 07.05.2009 7:18 PM PDT

oh man, please quit with all of the complaining, i have payed for all of the maps, and i could care less, why does it even matter?

people who buy ODST will get the maps and multiplayer for free, they're still paying sixty dollars for ODST, and the Halo 3 multiplayer.

plus, the bonus you speak of exists, the people who have both Halo 3 and ODST can get recon, so basically, this thread is complaining about something that is already resolved.

I am the hand of fate!

I wouldn't mind a price cut for paying 20 bucks for the first two, and in a way 80 for the Mythic pack (even though I actually wanted and have played (to a small extent) Halo Wars). But it's freaking Microsoft. Not getting ripped off is nirvana coming from them.
