Subject: The maps being bundled with Halo 3: ODST are not free!

I've been going through these forums lately, and there seems to be some sort of misconception that the maps are going to be free with Halo 3: ODST. I would just like to make it clear that the maps being bundled with the game are not free; rather, the maps make up half the price of ODST which would be roughly $30. If anyone would like to prove me wrong, then please explain how a 5-6 hour campaign and survival mode, both of which heavily borrow from the gameplay mechanics of Halo 3, can be worth more than $30.

We kinda know. That's why everyone is complaining

  • 07.05.2009 1:15 PM PDT

Who said they were free?
I was under the impression that they were going to be $30.

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

its been said the maps are not free. Thats what is shying away a lot of fans from this expansion...I mean "new game." We are paying for something we already own. I think the odst should not be bundled, but released as a $30 game and a $60. Those that want to pay for maps that they already own, get the 60, those that dont get the $30. There really isnt going to be much new content for the $60 you are spending... I mean the multilayer is the same as halo3. And the new game mode "firefight" will not have a matchmaking option. Not to mention the 3 new maps you will be getting along with the 10 you already own, will also eventually wind up on marketplace anyway. I am just going to youtube the cut scenes and call it a day and wait for Reach which will be a new game and worthy of my $60 bucks. Its what I did for halo wars.

If you look around these forums, you will find people who think that they are free. The "This Awesome New Title Pisses me Off" thread is full of people who think the maps will be bundled free with Halo 3: ODST.

I doubt it. Chances are that they will buy the game, and never realise that they did not get the maps for free.

Even mods don't realize this. If they do, they don't show\ it.

It all depends on your point of view and whether or not you have purchased any of the Halo 3 DLC map packs, even the free Heroic map pack and Cold Storage downloads.

can you people drain this forum of every good conversation any faster?

THE PRICE IS 60 DOLLARS!!! GET OVER IT, THERE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE ANY JUSTIFICATION OR REASON SO JUST STOP PLEASE

i don't care that you want to tell everyone this, because every topic regarding the price or content of halo 3 odst is one less topic with good conversation.

5-6 hour campaign, and firefight seems worth 60....

Cool. Of course I'm not buying ODST for the maps. Say what you want about how they aren't free and how I am just a blinf comsumer. Turns out Halo 3: ODST is more than maps, it has a new campaign, an extended at that, Firefight, all the features of Halo 3, ie Forge, Theater, etc., an invite to the Halo: Reach beta, and the maps.

Sure I may be paying for them again, but I won't be able to play the maps with my dying Halo 3 disc anyway. ODST offers me a better deal then re-buying Halo 3 again.

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

You could look at it this way:
The WHOLE game is FREE!!! There is just a really expensive manual.

I lol'd

I'm not going to bother arguing on this thread, every single argument in here is countered in the other thread.

If you wish for me to do so though, just ask. I'm more than happy to show people the truth.

If your Halo 3 disc is dead, then Halo 3 ODST is a fantastic deal with you, and you are not a blind customer; however, it is a pretty bad deal for anyone who has bought the game and it's dlc. That being said, I'm going to wait a month or two, then buy a used copy from Microplay for $30.

Uh, if it comes with the game...and pretty much EVERY xbox 360 title is $60...and there is no additional cost...thats free my friends. And you wouldnt know if the campaign took 5-6 hours, did Bungie tell you? Or are you just someone who's pissed that they wasted money buying the maps?

  • 07.05.2009 2:09 PM PDT

You're in the wrong mindset thread maker. You're assuming that everyone that has Halo 3: ODST will have Halo 3. I think it safe to assume many won't. So they're getting the ODST campaign, firefight, and a whole Xbox Live Match Making experience complete with theater, forge, and DLC maps that have, at a point, equaled up to $30 all together plus three exclusive maps that would, if not bundled with the game, predictably cost $10 as well.

Implied facepalm

Actually they did! They have stated that the campaign is 5-6 hours long.

I did not waste money buying the maps.

Actually.. Bungie said their campaign was 3-5 hours long.. They also said it grew from that, but all we have of proof is their word.. Which isn't worth much as proof is it?

The maps and halo 3 multiplayer ARE part of the price

http://kotaku.com/5274549/ Kotaku asked MS why it lifted in price and MS said it was because of the *new* content it had been added (new as in Old appearantly). This means that we are officially paying for the maps twice.. Two times, which is more than once by the way.

I never said that Halo 3: ODST was a bad deal for everyone. All I said is that the maps coming with Halo 3: ODST are not free.

Something I've noticed from my non-halo friends is that if you aren't playing Halo 3 now, you never will. In other words, if you like halo, you will buy Halo 3. Which in turn means that if you buy ODST you like halo.

You buy odst = you like halo
You like halo = you have halo 3

I think 90% of the people that will buy ODST will have Halo 3..
