Subject: My issue with Bungie right now about ODST

It really annoys me that to get the Sergent Johnson character content you need to pre order at game stop. I never have needed to pre order a game, not even the most highly hyped ones. I would much rather have the game delivered to me from amazon than have to drive to GS (which isn't that close to where I live) to get it. However, i'm going to have to pre order it, being the die hard of a halo fan I am, it just really annoys me tho. It really is not fair that I have to pre order a game to get content for something im paying 60 dollars for. Especially since this game is basically a glorified expansion pack. Its that same thing they did with the game Infamous and this kind of marketing needs to stop immediately. This is really low, even for Bungie.

Hey, don't be a zumbo! Join Halo Wars RTS!
I'm right 97% of the time. Who cares about the other 4%?

Yeah, you can preorder from Amazon and still get Johnson. If you'd pay attention to what Bungie says....

  • 07.05.2009 3:58 PM PDT

Yeah, you can get it with Amazon (com/ca/uk/etc) too. Also, no one said you had to get Johnson. It's your choice...

  • 07.05.2009 3:59 PM PDT

I haven't read that yet about amazon but i'll take your word for it. It's still besides the point tho, I can understand them giving you something extra, outside of the game, like a plastic helmet. But I really feel that in game content shouldn't be reserved for pre orders or other special deals. When you are paying so much already, you really shouldn't be barred out of in game content.

Jesus, that's the point. It's "special" content. You need to do something "special" to get it.

You do know you can preorder it online at gamestop as well so you won't have to move anywhere and they'll deliver it right to ya. Apparently having to move is a big deal when deciding on video games these days....

Well when they stop taking preorders and it has been like 3 months... I hope they put it on the market place for 800ms points so the other people can get him.

Well can't stop a man dreaming eh?

Going to Gamestop to reserve a game is not special...Its cheap marketing, and I'm fed up with it. I hope this isn't something that gets more normalized in the industry than it already is. The gaming industry is already enough of a joke these days.

  • 07.05.2009 5:11 PM PDT

Well guess no one is stopping you from pre-ordering, it's your choice.

It cost nothing to preorder so there is no loss. Its not cheap marketing. People need to realized their not going to get sympathy from us. Your on the official forum, this is where the true fanboys are.

Only reason I'm pre-ordering is so I don't run the risk of not getting a copy after school, not for Johnson. It's Halo 3: ODST, not Halo 3: Johnson. I want to play as an ODST, not as Johnson.

Do this please.

Now listen to me. Its "special" content. It is a gift to those who pre-ordered. It doesn't cost anything extra to pre-order. At GameStop you can put down $60, plus taxes, for your ODST pre-order, then go in and pick it up for free on launch day. OHMAGAWD IT R SO SIMPLE!

Old School

meh, its not really a big deal. everyone is gonna be using Sgt Johnson anyway. Using his character will be hardly special.

Nick Quinto

Hes right you shouldn't have to preorder something to get things it should come with the game.

Then it wouldn't be special now would it? Quite frankly if you are going to complain about having to pre-order to get a special unlockable, something that a lot of gaming companies do, then you need to calm down.

Ok. You need to stop with the Gamestop nonsense. It isn't only available at Gamestop but at nearly every major retailer. And secondly, pre-ordering doesn't cost anything extra. It's just like getting the free toy in cracker-jacks. A little extra for those who care. And it is more normalized. A lot of extra content is given out with a pre-order!
Where have you been and what games are you buying?!

Yeah, at least GameStop doesn't have a pre-order money limit. You could pay for ODST right there, get your reciept, then pop in on launch day and grab ODST free. Simple.

How isn't fair? If you pre-order the game you get a bonus, a treat if you will. The pre-order isn't costing you anything extra, if anything the company is giving you a deal with extra content.

Just because its not fair to you means nothing.

  • 07.05.2009 6:27 PM PDT

Well if your not that crazy about getting Johnson, don't pre-order. At first I wanted to pre-order, then I realized I wouldn't actually play as Johnson anyway.

  • 07.05.2009 6:36 PM PDT

if your a die hard halo fan than why are you not getting the collectors edition

  • 07.05.2009 6:39 PM PDT

Why does Bungie put us through such avid anticipation?

Wow OP, preordering is better than buying a game anyway. You really just pay for it beforehand to ensure you get the game if it gets sold out, and you get certain benefits.

Lee Chadwick

I dont get why it is turning into such a big deal. Pre-order it or don't.

  • 07.05.2009 6:51 PM PDT

will you honestly play as johnson? i know i wont, i pre-ordered so that way i know i have a copy, not for johnson.

people will probably play as him for a few days, then get bored with him, think of it as the Hayabusa Effect, something's really popular, but with-in a few days it will get old.
