I just read the weekly update, and it says this:

"We were >this< close from cutting one of our new gametypes. But I implemented it in six hours and now it’s essentially finished (read: harder to cut). It’s a gametype explicitly designed for those people who have friends but not live; something fun that 3-4 people can play. One other type didn’t make the cut, unfortunately. "

does this mean that there won't be LAN Gametypes? I will not purchase HALO 2 if I can't play halo over the lan. Being forced to use xbox live to play multiplayer is not fair.

No

LAN has been in Halo 2's plans since the beginning of time - around December 2001; when Halo 2 was being conceived. So don't fret, it's in there

read between the lines! MIcrosoft is going to leverage halo 2 to further xbox live. By keeping lan Multiplayer out, if forces people to sign up for xbox live to play multiplayer.

we kept a gametype that allows people to play who have friends but no live. This must be the split screen gametype. "but we had to cut another gametype" This is either COOP or LAN play. My bet is that it is LAN play.

I hope to be wrong. can someone post a link correcting me?

It simply says they almost cut a gametype for 3-4 players... People with no LAN that want to play a good gametype in splitscreen...

here is a link proving that you are wrong.

The exact quote is...

"In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Halo 2 again makes use of the multiplayer split-screen System-Link feature and… Xbox™ Live. "

It also says...

""We still have the multiplayer game-types that people loved in Halo, but we're planning something special for Halo 2," hinted Jaime Griesemer, lead designer of Halo 2."
