This has been bugging me for a while. Usually, if Bungie outsources their trailer, they will tell us. But, as far as I know, nothing was said here. Does that mean that the 'announcement' trailer was made using the in-game engine?

If it was, that planet looks awfully good.

more like CG trailer.
look at the smoke, the ship and everything overall. it looks better than both crysis and killzone 2. and the ps3 (and pc) have more power than the 360, so it's not possible it was made using ingame footage.

usually, when a teser is made using the game engine, they say so ("trailer entirely made of ingame footage", etc).

Maybe. But not for a Bungie game. All of Bungie's game trailers, save for the Halo 3: ODST Announcement trailer, have been made using the in-game engine and yet, none of them have that disclaimer on the front.

common sense is not commonly used

hm... an interesting idea. Its possible i guess. I was wondering the other day if Bungie would be using the halo 3 engine or creating a new one for Reach

I think I have read somewhere that it'll use a brand new engine.

it'd make sense, H3's engine is absolutely outdated (hell it was barely up to date when H3 came out).

R.I.P. Halo 2

I doubt it. It is possible but Bungie has been using some CGI lately.

It will be a new engine, they made a new one for every Halo game they've made thus far.

I feel unwanted to post in this thread, not being a Heroic+ :D.

In all of the Teaser's/Trailers i've seen of games, they'll usually say if it would be in-game footage, almost as if to say "We could have had amazing graphics, but we want you to see this."

But its not typical of a Halo game. None of Bungie's games ever say that unless in the case of Halo 3: ODST's Announcement Trailer, where they said it was CG.

I was just watching an old Halo 3 ViDoc, and an employee said that they made the Halo 3 announcement trailer with the engine to show off what the engine could do. Obviously, with ODST using the same engine as Halo 3, there was no need to do this.

But yes, I think they have done this with Reach.

Starry night trailer used CG....

I doubt it. Things like that are just typically always CG.

Anyway, I hate to say it, but with announcement trailers, I just don't believe Bungie. They can redeem themselves, but the Halo 3 announcement trailer looked nothing like the final game. The scope with enemies was their though. The graphical detail wasn't. The game still looked good though. However, the game did look like the trailer though. The trailer pretty much took part in game, granted, not in the same way and in a place more appropriate for, you know, a game.

If Halo: Reach looks like the halo 3 trailer though, damn.

Not anything against bungie though, I just don't trust them when it comes to this. It probably just all goes on the fact that they make the trailers to look as good as they want the game to look, targets of sorts, not what they have as that's not finished and (i'd imagine) untextured somewhat.
Just to make it clear, it's nothing

I still don't see why people harp on Bungie for that. That and the Halo 2 Announcement Trailer. As long as it is somewhat close, it's good. Besides, at the end of the day, people playing wouldn't have cared about that detail anyway.

Okay then, Starry Night wasn't made by Bungie. Digital Domain did it.
