Yes, we are paying for something twice.:  51%

No, we are not paying for something twice.:  49%

PLEASE READ THIS POST BEFORE VOTING!

[NOTE 1]: Some people are having some trouble understanding the question. Let me rephrase it. Do you think that we're paying twice for the maps and halo 3 multiplayer in ODST? They are part of the price according to Microsoft, the publishers. (THE MAPS AREN'T FREE!) Proof here and here.

[NOTE 2]: I've notice some of these threads have been closed. I urge mods to think twice before closing this one. There aren't others like this one. Please try your best to take a non-bias choice when closing this thread. Am I really breaking any rules in asking a question to the community? Sorry for coming off as arrogant (if I am).

This thread is not to argue on the price. It's not to argue on it's content. It's not to argue on anything but this:

Do you think we're paying for something twice? Why or why not?

If you're going to post, please at least answer the above questions.

I just want to know how many people are aware of this. I'm pretty sure most of you are.

Again, this is not to argue the price or content. I chose yes but I'm still buying the the game. If you chose yes, it doesn't mean you are not buying the game. Please answer without going into a tantrum.

No I don't think you are cause you paid for it early, that was what you got for buying it. The maps now are just a bonus with ODST and not the main focus of the game.

How did I pay for something early, if I didn't know I had to pay for them again? I thought that ODST was going to give out the maps for free, which means I wouldn't have to pay for them twice. But that's not the case.

Even IF I did pay for them early, why am I paying for them again?

That's the thing, you aren't paying for them again. Your paying for ODST and the Maps are a bonus.

Like I said though, because (And I guess IF) You paid for the maps when they first came out that's exactly what you were paying for, to get them early. It was pretty well known that eventually they'd come out free/cheaper in some way, they did it with Halo 2, never heard anyone complain then.

But when MS was confronted by Kotaku on why the price changed, MS said that there was enough content in the package to constitute for the price.

What content? Did ODST become more than an expansion? Well according to MS the content that constitutes for the price is the maps and the halo 3 multiplayer.

Here is proof: http://kotaku.com/5274549/

Furthermore, I'm not complaining because the maps are free. Because they aren't. They're part of the price. Or so MS says..

No. Here's what were getting with Halo 3: ODST:

Brand new Campaign (open world, lots of exploring, easter eggs, fun things to do etc.)
Brand new Co-Op Mode, Firefight. (unlimited waves of Covenant)
Halo: Reach Beta
New Achievements
All the maps ever made for Halo 3 (including Mythic Part 2)
New armor customization
New emblems
And all the other small things (New weapons, VISR, enemies, tactics etc.)
Halo 3 Disc

Honestly, stop complaining. This more than you would get in a normal game. Really, this is worth $120, as your getting a new Halo 3 disc (Assuming it isn't just the multiplayer aspect)

So, I don't mind paying 60 bucks for all those new features. The only thing were getting "twice" is the Halo 3 multiplayer and the maps, but you get new ones so it doesn't matter.

And again, if you think you're wasting money, don't buy it. Simple as.

Of course we are. But really, do you think Microsoft wouldn't charge full price for this if the maps weren't included. No way. It would still be a $60 title. They just want it to look better as a purchase. I look at it as if we are getting the extra maps on disc as a bonus, because this would be $60 regardless. Naturally, it's up to each individual's interpretation. You interpret it differently than I do.

How the hell are you paying for the same thing? You're getting a new Campaign, new Co-Op mode, new maps, and a Halo: Reach Beta invite.

HOW THE HELL DID WE ALREADY PAY FOR ALL THOSE? Jesus.

"as if you could kill time without injuring eternity" HDT

wait, what? you get a new halo3 game disc? sweet, mine is scratched up and has a big crack in the middle (I can't play the 7th mission, and I've tried getting the "annual" about 4 times, lagging out every single time without getting it during the credits.)

sleggers' argument sounds about right.

I don't understand your thinking. You say No, we're not paying for something twice, but then you say Yes we are.

What? Please don't get in a tantrum either with your whole DUN BAI IT thing. if you can't muster a good argument that doesn't contradict itself, then please don't post.

Sucks for you, cuz you only get the multiplayer disk.

The point is, if you bought the Legendary and Mythic map packs already, then you buy them again.

I wouldn't have bought them if I thought they would cost around $20 each, which is a ridiculous price.

Look, we are paying for the maps twice. ODST wouldn't be worth $60 if we didn't.

I believe his question and the poll are referring specifically to the Halo 3 multiplayer aspect, except the new exclusive maps. Microsoft considers this to be a factor in the price. It doesn't bother me, but it's a factor in the overall purchase that bothers a lot of people, such as the OP. He asked if we think we are paying for something twice, and I said yes. That something is Halo 3 multiplayer, and we have paid for the vast majority of it already. Still doesn't bother me at all.

I have no problem paying $60 for ODST (Hell, I'd go higher.) I acknowledge that for that $60 that I am getting a badass new campaign, Firefight, and three new maps. That is more than $60 to me. I personally don't think that a beta should ever be considered in the price of a game, but it's icing on the cake to me.

Halo 3: ODST

3-6 Hours of New Gameplay
New Multiplayer Mode Firefight
New Armor (Only available in Firefight)
Unlockable Recon armor
Two New Gun (Yet the removal of Duel Wielding and the BR)
Halo 3 Multiplayer Maps (Even if you already have them.)
New Achievements (Not a very big deal but its new so I'll add it to all of them.)
Overall: $60.00

GTA 4: LatD
10-15 Hours of New Gameplay
6 New Multiplayer Modes
Additional Clothing for Online play
6 New Weapons
New Vehicles
New Achievements
Overall: $20.00

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Shivering Isles
30 Hours of New Gameplay
New Land to explore
New Weapons, Armor, Scrolls, items, ingredients, spells and More.
New Enemies
New Achievements
Overall: $29.99

Don't get me wrong I love Halo and will probably get it at any price, but Its pretty obvious that they are using this fact against everyone.

Here's my question, Why are you asking this hear and protesting here? Bungie doesn't have control of it anyway so if you would like to complain/talking/protest about it do it on the MS forums not bungies.

Swanie that's a little unfair since you aren't comparing the right kind of games. Open World vs. FPS will always have more content so to have an expansion is different.

Exactly. Also remember, if we are paying for something twice or not, doesn't mean we are buying it or not.

I'm buying it because I understand that MS won't lower the price. But I'm not going to BS and say that we aren't paying for something twice. This thread is to see if you understand this too or not.

I take it you didn't read my first post? I'm not protesting or complaining. I'm trying to see how many people understand that we are paying for something twice.

Please do not assume that I'm trying to complain. This is a community thing. I'm trying to see how many people are aware.

I'm still going to buy the game.

Some really wierd thinking on here

If Halo1 was included as part of the deal would people also say we were buying that twice?

If you have the maps already then so what, you also get the 3 new ones you dont.It is of course even better if you don't have all the maps and i know plenty that don't

Anyway this is all nonsense

More content at a cheaper price. I don't think its unfair at all. Each of those games is an expansion. Only one cost full price.

I'm not flaming anybody. I am asking for your opinion but please have some information behind your voting.

If there's any flaming here, its of your doing.

Everything I'm saying against you is true. You did do everything I said you did in my last post. You did contradict yourself. You did use the old "don't buy it" argument as a fallback.

Okay, now please tell me how are we not paying for something twice?
