Yes I beleive we are paying for twice as much. But I think it worth it. There giving us 3 new maps for halo 3 there giving us firefight, a new campaign, a chance to play as sergeant johnson, an invitation to play the halo reach beta later. So I think its worth it.

Here's what I think:

Originally, ODST would have cost $40~. I figure $10-15 for Firefight and $5-10 for the Reach Beta. So, no, I don't think we're paying for something twice.

No. Here's what were getting with Halo 3: ODST:

Brand new Campaign (open world, lots of exploring, easter eggs, fun things to do etc.) 3-5 hours. $60 for a campaign, a new mode, three new maps, and a beta.
Brand new Co-Op Mode, Firefight. (unlimited waves of Covenant) I hate survival minigames. If I can't win, I don't give a damn.
Halo: Reach Beta
New Achievements TOTALLY WORTH PAYING $60! NO GAME HAS THIS!
All the maps ever made for Halo 3 (including Mythic Part 2) Many people including myself have the all the maps, and paying $60 for a campaign, a survival minigame, and a beta doesn't seem right.
New armor customization Really?
New emblems Really?
And all the other small things (New weapons, VISR, enemies, tactics etc.) Campaign only I'm guessing.
Halo 3 Disc Have two of these already.

Honestly, stop complaining. This more than you would get in a normal game. Really, this is worth $120, as your getting a new Halo 3 disc (Assuming it isn't just the multiplayer aspect)

So, I don't mind paying 60 bucks for all those new features. The only thing were getting "twice" is the Halo 3 multiplayer and the maps, but you get new ones so it doesn't matter.

And again, if you think you're wasting money, don't buy it. Simple as.

And people thought L4D2 is not worth the money. I will however, purchase ODST.

I don't think so.
I think the maps are just bonus and most of the people complaining are just stupid MLG -blam!-s who wouldn't even play through story and Firefight.

Personally, I happier that Bungie took a more covenant ass-kicking approach like they did with Halo 3.

  • 07.09.2009 10:02 PM PDT

Memento mori.

Not particularily. Microsoft, from what I heard, did have the biggest hand in altering the ODST package to make more profit, but if you don't buy ODST, then you wont get the extra three maps-so in a lot of ways, you arent really paying for the same multiplayer. And personally, I believe that the ODST Campaign and Firefight would be worth it.

I see what you mean about paying for it twice, though. The thing is, its not actually like paying for something twice. It shouldn't cost this much to buy something that you already have most of (in this case, Halo 3 Multiplayer), but its not actually the whole Halo 3 package. So im kinda 50/50 on this.

PS - Whatever I say, i'm still buying ODST. :D

Whats wrong with survival game modes? THEY'RE AWESOME!!!

I love being able to get high scores and playing WITH my friends.
And I didn't know you already had the 2nd Mythic map pack.
And many people would pay $30 for the Reach beta and dont say they wouldn't because that was basically what happened with Crackdown.

  • 07.09.2009 10:11 PM PDT

I will definitely not be buying ODST. I will just wait for the new maps to be DLC. I can't imagine playing the ODST campaign and having to listen to that annoying silenced pistol: I like it when guns sound like real guns, not a dart gun. I could care less about firefight and the Reach beta, as well. Just because something's new doesn't mean it's good. $.02

You know what I mean when I said I already have all the maps.

And I can't stand survival games. Might be just me, but they're just awful. Most games now have it.

$30 for a beta is a bit much don't you think? I'm sure there will be other ways of getting access to the beta besides paying, like with CoD 4 and WaW.

-I was here

let this thread die people!!!! all it is doing is getting people to argue about the price! so let this post end this price arguement. all u price haters... stop complaining, ur getting 50 bucks worth of new game and 10 bucks of new maps, the other stuff is basically thrown in free! and complaining isnt helping, ur just wasting forum space, whining wont make the price drop! and as for u people who think the price is fair, stop arguing with these whiners!! i know they are annoying but the more u respond, the more the will annoy you by retaliating. and besides, they do ave a good point, why should those mappacks they already paid for be given away for free in odst? well heres the answer, all the map packs were eventually going to be made free, so stop complaining about that. and yes, evrything but odst game and mythic map pack 2 is getting thrown in for free, so everyone stop complaining. and if you dont like getting stuff twice/ the high price, dont buy odst and download new maps off the marketplace. its that simple. and yes, to elaborate on what odst is, its a full game so it deserves a full price. and this game wasnt made for matchmaking fans, it was made for the fans who love the halo campaigns. now every one plz stop arguing!!!!!! lets just discuss the game's story and guess as to what will happen /what will be in the game like this forum was made for. plz everybody, let this be the last post on the pricing issues and stop this pointless argument! plz, let these threads die. and if a new 1 is made, plz, dont dignify its maker by looking/ responding to it. plz, for the love of halo and everything else awsome, stop arguing.

Jesus effing Christ, how the hell do you know it's 3-5 hours long? I cannot repeat this enough it seems. Bungie, and Microsoft, have stated they made the Campaign longer and did more with the Halo 3 engine to make the Campaign longer. Plus, it's an open world. You do know what that means? Hours upon hours upon hours of exploring, different strategies for different objectives etc.

Again, that's your opinion. You don't like those survival add-ons, guess what? An ass load of other people do. You cannot justify an argument using your own opinion of whether you like something or not. It's just... no. Just no.

I'm listing all the features of the game, I know every game has achievements, but I'm listing the features. And who said we're paying $60 just for the achievements?

About the maps, this argument is really just pathetic. If you paid Microsoft money to get the maps early, it's your own damn fault. You got them early, it's a benefit. You can't argue about this after agreeing to purchase the maps. You get them early, too bad for you. Stop crying and get over it.

But I mean, honestly. You're getting 3 new features, loaded with hours of gameplay, things to do, and fun to have. But, you guys choose to ignore this fact and just say "zomgaz0ra we be payin for dis shiz twiczeee s0n!211"

(Not directed to you omen) Stop. Stfu. Just stop. You're going to buy the game, everyone on here will. Don't deny it. I just don't see why you argue if you're going to buy the game and just kill your argument basically. We'll enjoy the game. Everyone will. So, can we just stop and talk about some other things? Besides this?

Anywho, going to work. I'll check this when I come back.

I'd just like to point out how wrong this is. You don't know that everyone on here will buy the game. I know I won't be (assuming there's no price change).

Also, unless the campaign is the same length (or close to it) as other single-player focused games (such as BioShock, Assassins Creed, etc), it doeesn't justify the price. And if the singleplayer doesn't justify the price, then you are paying for the multiplayer twice.

Slegger, how good is the game? Is it huge? Is it awesome?

You don't know? Thought so.

We don't. The game could be bigger than Oblivion but who knows? Bungie said before how big the campaign was (just the story) and it was 3-5 hours. Why can't they say how long it is now is beyond me.

But isn't it weird that they aren't talking about the campaign anymore? Isn't it weird they haven't talked about it except said "game grew". How exactly? I don't know. Maybe it grew because H3's multiplayer was included. Maybe it grew because they re did the whole game and made it twice as big. Who's to say?

You can't really just give your trust to Bungie. Becasue after all, it isn't Bungie anymore (when it comes to halo), it's Bungie/Microsoft.

You say they're making the maps available to the ones that don't have it. Yet you fail to see that they're still paying for it in ODST. It's the same to pay for them in ODST and to pay them via DLC. The people that didn't buy the maps aren't getting a good deal or anything. They're still paying for the maps. You may say, they're forcing those that don't have them to get them with ODST. And you're right, that's what they're doing. I don't think it's good for any company to force their customers to buy things they don't want. You might say "Well these customers DO want the maps!" Well they can buy them via DLC.

You might still say "many don't have Internet to do that." Well if they don't have internet then they are don't feel obliged to buy the maps (since they don't need them for anything BUT (aka legendary only playlists) their own personal needs)And I agree. However theres more bad than right in including the maps in the ODST (if they were free like I said, I wouldn't complain. Hell I want Bungie to give them out free). By including the maps and H3 multiplayer in ODST they're not only making me pay for it twice, but forcing people that don't have them to get them. I think they should just release a cd with the maps in a separate disc like they did in Halo 2.

I thank you for not flaming me like you did in your past post.

Also, about the whole "can't complain because I dont' have mythic". I feel obliged to remind you that I'm getting charged for H3's multiplayer.

Or did I buy H3's multi to play it early too?

They are forcing them by making them get the maps but if they are going to make playlists that require the new maps they have to make them accessible somehow for those who didn't/can't get them.

Like I said I have to save up to buy games because I have other more important things to worry about than getting the newest Halo maps, so for me this is perfect because to me its like I'm getting the maps AND the game.

So I guess it just comes down to perspective seeing as I know I can't change your mind about "paying for something twice".

  • 07.11.2009 2:02 AM PDT

<(^.^<) ^(-^.^-)^ (>^.^)>

I never really thought about this yet but now that I think about it, we are paying twice. I don't know why the halo 3 multiplayer and forge even comes with the game. Another disk, yes, but that should be an option to get with the game like the CE or Sgt. Johnson, but instead, I have to pay for that too. Also the maps, same thing, should be an option, but no, just another money grabber. I will still buy the game because it looks awesome, but i won't help but feel a little ripped off.

I do know it's big. In the game walkthrough or whatever, they said it takes an hour to walk to an objective? Seems big to me. And if you look at the map, it just shows how big it is. Go watch it, on youtube. Then come back. And if my memory serves, every Halo game ever made was awesome. Hell, even Halo Wars was awesome. I know this game will be good, and from the previews, it's just starting to prove me right. But hey, that's just me.

Maybe it grew because Bungie made the open world even bigger? Maybe it grew because now in Firefight you'll never have the same experience? Maybe it grew because they added more flashbacks? You need to stop being so negative mate, and take this game for what it is.

Oh really? So people registered on this site, spend hours and hours a day reading and posting about Halo, play Halo, do everything they can with Halo. And you're saying they just won't buy the game? Sounds stupid. And sure, there will be a few people that won't buy it, but the majority will.

Campaign and Firefight, that's more than Bioshock had. Sure, Bioshock's campaign was good, but it wasn't really "open world" it was still linear, in a way. ODST's world is huge. Honestly dude, stop resorting to the paying for it twice. If that's the only way you guys can back up your posts, that's really sad.

funny you say that, seeing as this whole forum is about paying twice and that's why we're all posting...

Hey moron we get three new maps, which you would pay $10 for any way, a new campaign, and firefight mode. For those two things i think $30 bucks isnt bad at all.

"If you push this button. Someone. Somewhere will die.

BUT.

You will, hey wait! Didn't you wanna hear what you'd get first!"

I have to say it depends on who you are. If you have Xbox Live then you aren't paying for as much, but if you have only local matches, it's a great deal.

No, because ODST is a full-length game with new maps, game modes, a Campaign, and new characters.

  • 07.12.2009 9:18 PM PDT

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

I personally don't believe that we are paying for something twice with ODST. As stated in the articles linked in the first post, the Halo 3 content aside, we are getting a whole new, stand-alone game with a new champaign and co-operative/ multiplayer mode (firefight). This is a full length game with what looks like great replay value. That alone sounds like it's worth the usually game price. Moving from there, we get the Halo 3 multiplayer bundle. For most people whom have bought the maps, this is could seem like a bad deal. But also think of those who didn't buy the maps. I know plenty of people who are waiting on this game to get the Heroic, Legendary and Mythic maps for a better deal. This whole bundle sounds like a $70 deal, to me.

So let me get this right. You're not buying the game because you
1. Want to wait another 3 months or more to buy the maps anyways
2. Don't like how the pistol sounds
3. And don't want to experience a Halo revelation in a new survival mode, and experience the beginning of it all (Reach) at the same time?

....Good reasoning i guess?
