No they did not. That's what makes this outrageous. Look, everything you've told me is based off how companies set the cost of something. It doesn't prove that they aren't making you pay for it twice. You're telling me that if it took no work to add it, they shouldn't be charging for it, that is not to say they aren't charging for it though, right? You know many people aren't aware about how a price is set (taking everything into consideration), so maybe MS knows this too and is taking advantage of it.
All I'm saying is that whether or not marketing cost (rules) say that you shouldn't put a price on something if there is no work going into it, it doesn't negate the fact that MS could put a price on it.
Why exactly would the price go up? Because ODST grew to more than what it was excepted? Maybe. Who's to say? No one. So far, the only good reason is that they are charing for the maps.
I think it is safe to assume that when Bungie originally planned ODST and made the statements they didn't see this game as a full fledged retail game, and that the game expanded beyond their expectations. Now does that added content justify the retail price tag,? Maybe. The only argument I see is MS sticking an extra margin on top of this content because it is a Halo title, and people would not hesitate to pay extra for something with Halo on the cover. And that is simply charging more for a popular game. I would bet my bottom dollar that if the maps were not included in ODST, the price would not have changed. Maybe the game did expand into more than an expansion, maybe not. Though think about it, isn't it a strange coincidence that the price changed just as they added Halo 3's multiplayer. I think so.
We're not sure of anything though, until bungie or MS say more into the matter.
However, we agree that it is possible MS is charing for the maps, right? Because there is nothing to say they aren't.
Now, what we must clear up is, whether or not the game in itself constitues a $60 dollar price tag, without the maps taken in consideration. We don't know, but I'm pretty sure that it didn't change.
When Bungie said that its game was worth (to them) $30-35 dollars, they were finished with their campaign, because if they weren't, it wouldn't be quite fair to suggest a price to a non-finished game, right? Firefight was already included too, since they said this AFTER they had played Firefight (according to their latest podcast. They played Firefight during Christmas). Unfortunately, I have no link or tangible proof about them saying it was worth $30-35 dollars except for my memory. I will try as hard as I can to look for it, but the majority of players here also recall them saying this, so I know I'm not crazy :P
EDIT: Whoops, I edited a big type I made. Sorry! It's in bold.
