Eat raw meat.
Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

We are paying for Legendary and Mythic twice. Whoop dee dingle doo.

You agreed to buy those maps. Bungie has to release those maps in order to make a profit. If they don't, they go out of business and buh-bye Halo. Upon buying those maps you agreed to give Bungie and Micro$oft your money in order for both companies to keep making profit and staying in business. You could've said this: "Maybe I could wait a few months instead of buying Mythic. I'd save money by getting the maps later and getting the oppurtunity to try out other good games like Battlefield: Bad Company and Fallout 3." Instead you FULLY AGREED to pay for those maps. You didn't even glanced at the thing Micro$oft had over the Download button saying "Are you sure?" and bought.

If you agree to buy ODST, you get a full new campaign (Which will likely be better than other games with campaign only, such as the crappy Iron Man game), a new game mode called Firefight (Which in my opinion is almost worth the money in it's likeness to Left 4 Dead), and a Halo 3 disk containing all the maps. Maybe Bungie will even include gamerpics and themes or other shennanigans to prove they love us. Fact is, they do. They gave us Cold Storage for free (I love that map), they are active with their community, and they're including a Beta invite to Halo: Reach in every copy of ODST. This isn't a money grab. This is a game that is a terrific value to people who were patient or new comers to the Halo franchise. (Chances are someone will play ODST as their first Halo game)

In short, you chose to buy the maps, the fact they come for free in ODST means nothing. Just stop complaining, you bought the Micro$oft points and pressed "Download," so there's nothing you can do about it. Bungie is just trying to run a business.

Not really. I stopped buying the map packs.
Well you aren't paying for it. But are we?
Yes or no?

They aren't coming for free in ODST, they are the reason why the game is now $60 instead of $40.

But I was patient. I didn't buy mythic maps becuase I know that we're going to be charged for them again in ODST. However, at the time of the legendary release date, I didn't even know about ODST. Did you? No? Then why would I have waited? They never said "Get legendary maps now! Oh and btw you're going to pay for them later on!". Also, I didn't know that buying Halo 3 would be redundant since ODST is coming with half of Halo 3's offerings. Like I said, if I knew all this beforehand I would have been patient and not bought any of it.

But I wasn't informed, so I'm being cheated now. I'm buying ODST and are being forced to pay for the maps and H3 multiplayer again.

Whether you care or not is out of the question. The question is: "Are we paying for something twice?" You said the answer is yes, so I'm guess you voted yes?

THE MAPS AREN'T FREE. If they were I wouldn't complain at all! MS said it was part of the price: here and here

Best argument I've seen yet.

You'd have to be blind to try to defend ODST's price after that one. I still have it preodered though.. I don't care being screwed as long as there's no denying it.

Bungie employee: "OMG ROFL LEGENDARY MAPS WILL NEVAR BE FREE EVAR"

Of course they lie to us, they have to trick us out of our hard earned money along with making all the playlists REQUIRE it. :(

But with the same things in them.

ODST has Halo 3's multiplayer.
Halo 3 has Halo 3's multiplayer.

They both have the same multiplayer. I paid for the multiplayer in Halo 3, now I'm paying for the SAME multiplayer in ODST. We are paying for it both times. I don't know what else to tell you man...

Actually we are getting both we are paying for the halo maps technically and we are getting a new campaign and co-op and so forth

But the main point is that your gaining more for your money then your losing with your purchase of ODST and we should just accept the fact that some people have not bought the maps and I also see the maps as just a bonus

So in my opinion its half and half your paying for maps that you May have already bought and your getting a new campaign and co-op weapons and other goodies. besides I love the fact were getting a key to halo reach beta.

I'm guessing you voted yes? It seems that you are aware we're paying for something twice.

Though I don't agree completely with you. I don't think that when you buy a game, you should lose money at all.

I understand there are people that haven't bought the maps, well that's why there should be two versions. Actually, ODST shouldn't have the maps and H3 multiplayer to begin with. It's not like they're giving them away free.

I bought a bag of chips. That was a week ago. Now I want to buy some cookies. Well I can't unless I buy a bag of chips again. Of course, there are some that haven't bought the chips. But isn't it better for those that haven't bought the chips to buy them separately if they want to? Instead of being forced to buy the chips with the cookies? This way it would help both groups. Those that bought the chips and those that haven't. That way, everyone wins and those that haven't bought the chips have something magical called choice, instead of being forced.

Okay I'm usually pretty chill but this is directed to The_omen.

SHUT THE -blam!- UP!
I've gone on 5 different posts and saw the same fckn bull-blam!- from you. If you already paid for the maps too bad you got to play them before us and that was what YOU got for buying them early. They made the Heroic map pack free so why didn't you just wait to see if they did the same thing with the other ones? Because you couldn't, because you wanted to play all the playlists that required the Legendaries or the Mythics and you got to do that.

The Mythics will have been out for around 5-6 months before ODST comes out. Thats 6 more months than I had to play around with them. Obviously if you got them then you thought you would get some sort of playability out of them and if not then you're just stupid.

If you truely believe you will be paying for something twice then I have a suggestion, DONT FCKN BUY THE GAME so stop b!tchin because there's nothing you can do about it. Bungie is just giving the maps to those, like me, who were patient enough to wait for them to come to us.

Very nice. I couldn't expect more from you man. Even though this is direct flame I will still argue with you okay? But just this once.

How can someone buy something to get it early if they didn't know that it was going to come out later (NO I DON'T MEAN FOR FREE!). When heroic maps where announced, i bought them because I didn't want to wait till they were free. Legendary maps came out, I waited for them to be free, Bungie said they weren't going to be free, so I bought them. If I knew that they were going to be coming out in ODST and you HAVE to pay for them, then I wouldn't have bought them in the first place now would I? Your argument fails completely. You are assuming that I knew this would happened. Did I really? Why exactly are you having a tantrum? Are you really that upset seeing someone stand up for what they want? Or is it because you think I'm insulting Bungie, your beloved little dev' company? If it's the latter, then let me tell you I'm not. I love Bungie just as much as any fanboy. All this arguing is not vented towards Bungie. It's not vented towards MS. It's vented toward you. It's vented towards every single person on this forum.

And no, I didn't get Mythic.

No you are not paying for something(maps) twice. You are paying for something once(if you choose to buy the game), granted part of the amount you are paying may be for something you already have but that doesnt mean you are paying twice, for example I got the Heroic maps and Cold Storage for free (thx Bungie) and got the first 3 mythic included with Halo Wars Limited Edition (by the way i would have bought even with out the maps just for the uber cool box) so i have only ever paid for 3 maps (the Legendary pack), now if you have paid for all three map packs and forked out 2400 M$ points along the way i can kinda see you point but even still you get a seperate disc to use for Multiplayer good for two reasons one you can retire you old Halo 3 disc and keep it as a back up (cause lets face it games get scratched sometimes) and second no more issues with "you dont have the maps" and you really do so you have to turn the box off and on again its just annoying and I know I'm not the only one this happens to cause my friends get it too, so to sum it all up am i paying for something twice nope i paid for something once over a month ago that im eagerly waiting to get my hands on!

Bull-blam!-. Bungie is an extremely successful game dev, linked to one of the most successful companies on the planet. They can afford lavish E3 demos and a massive new studio, and are currently hiring in the middle of a global recession. Bungie is NOT poor, and they will not be closing down for dropping the price on their expansion fluff-pack by $10.

Exploitation of the fan-base, pure and simple. MS is charging full price because they know the Halo fans will eat it up, and any dissent will be crushed by 'defenders of the faith' like you. There is no reason why the world's richest software giant has to be so greedy and underhanded in their marketing practices.

  • 07.07.2009 8:20 AM PDT

Personally, for me, a price is justified if I enjoy the game. I think that I am going to play Firefight for a long time, play the Campaign with my friends alot, also, I am asuming that you will be able to download to hard drive this time, for faster loads. I will also play the Reach beta when it is released, and enjoy that with my friends, too. ODST looks like an awesome game, and if they release Firefight DLC, count me in.

I don't understand.. This is what you told me:

granted part of the amount you are paying may be for something you already have
How does that not mean you're paying for something twice? If you pay for something you already have, you're paying for it twice!

M$ points along the way i can kinda see you point but even still you get a seperate disc That's you justifying the cost. I see what you're doing. You're saying that we're paying for the disc right? Well, a disc cost about 75 cents. That's not alot is it? I'm paying for the content inside the disc. What's inside the disc? Oh yea! The maps and halo 3 multiplayer.

Let me tell you something. I know you do understand me. I know you understand all the people that have voted yes on the poll. I know you do. What I don't know is why you keep trying to justify us paying something twice? You say "Yes you are BUT". No! There are no buts. If you pay for something twice you're paying for it twice, there is no reason for them to charge you twice for something.

Omen, why do you continue this? Do you think your whining and crying will change anyone's minds? You said yourself you're buying the game, so why continue to argue? We're getting a new, kick-ass Campaign that will be the best Campaign ever (imo), Firefight which will be better than Survival Mode, Horde, Zombies, and all of those, and a Halo: Reach beta, which hopefully is good, and 3 new maps which will be even better than the first 3. Stop complaning and get over yourself.

(Even though your reply will consist of: "But were paying for dis shizzzz twice!11!!121")

Either state a better argument, or stop posting.

Though I understand what you mean, you are making the assumption that everyone here has previously bought the multiplayer map packs. This isn't necessarily true, I have some friends online who don't have the Mythic Map Pack, so if they bought ODST (thought their reason for not getting the map pack was "lack of money") they would only pay for it once. I understand the frustration on this point of the majority of players who have bought the map-packs, including myself (I purchased them I mean, I'm not frustrated about it), but it is Bungie's decision, and if you look at it carefully, it is reasonable. Here's what I see:
According to Xbox.com's online marketplace, the Legendary map pack is 600 Microsoft Points and the Mythic map pack is 800, that's about $7.50 and $10 respectively (USD). Though it is true that Cold Storage and the Heroic map pack are free (which may be cause for further frustration for people who paid for Heroic when it came out, once again, including myself, not frustrated I mean but I paid for it), that still amounts to $17.50 of the total price of the game. I don't often purchase addons for console games or expansion packs or what ever you want to call ODST's campaign and "Firefight" mode, but with the three new maps, which would probably be 800 Microsoft Points again, an additional $10, taken off the price, that's a $30 game. For a new Xbox game, that's a great deal, there are games out there that have a short campaign and maybe a hastily added multiplayer that still cost $60. Now look at it from Bungie's point of view, by releasing the game without including the price of the maps, they lose about $27.50 on every sale, meaning less money to pay the people who made those maps, and less money to make more games, or new maps or anything. Yes it seems unfair that some of us have to pay for it twice, but if they didn't charge for it, all the people who, for one reason or another, didn't buy those maps before suddenly get them for free, and the guys at Bungie get shortchanged. Does that seem fair to you?

I actually didn't like the $60 price tag either, but now that you have pointed out to me that it includes the map pack price, and after looking that up, I see that it is reasonable, and don't mind paying full price anymore. Thank you.

Didn't you leave? Didn't you get mad because I already answered all your questions and you admitted that WE ARE paying for something twice? Didn't you say yourself "Yes we are!"? Didn't you? Yes you did. What does that mean? I changed your mind, that's what It means.

Regardless, this isn't to change anybodies mind. This is to bring awareness of this exploitation. I will stop arguing when people realize the truth.
