Though I understand what you mean, you are making the assumption that everyone here has previously bought the multiplayer map packs. This isn't necessarily true, I have some friends online who don't have the Mythic Map Pack, so if they bought ODST (thought their reason for not getting the map pack was "lack of money") they would only pay for it once. I understand the frustration on this point of the majority of players who have bought the map-packs, including myself (I purchased them I mean, I'm not frustrated about it), but it is Bungie's decision, and if you look at it carefully, it is reasonable. Here's what I see:
According to Xbox.com's online marketplace, the Legendary map pack is 600 Microsoft Points and the Mythic map pack is 800, that's about $7.50 and $10 respectively (USD). Though it is true that Cold Storage and the Heroic map pack are free (which may be cause for further frustration for people who paid for Heroic when it came out, once again, including myself, not frustrated I mean but I paid for it), that still amounts to $17.50 of the total price of the game. I don't often purchase addons for console games or expansion packs or what ever you want to call ODST's campaign and "Firefight" mode, but with the three new maps, which would probably be 800 Microsoft Points again, an additional $10, taken off the price, that's a $30 game. For a new Xbox game, that's a great deal, there are games out there that have a short campaign and maybe a hastily added multiplayer that still cost $60. Now look at it from Bungie's point of view, by releasing the game without including the price of the maps, they lose about $27.50 on every sale, meaning less money to pay the people who made those maps, and less money to make more games, or new maps or anything. Yes it seems unfair that some of us have to pay for it twice, but if they didn't charge for it, all the people who, for one reason or another, didn't buy those maps before suddenly get them for free, and the guys at Bungie get shortchanged. Does that seem fair to you?

I actually didn't like the $60 price tag either, but now that you have pointed out to me that it includes the map pack price, and after looking that up, I see that it is reasonable, and don't mind paying full price anymore. Thank you.
I completely agree with you. The price is fair because it includes the maps and H3 multiplayer (don't forget they're charging for that too), but was it really neccessary to include all that with ODST?

It seems to me that they are forcing us to buy things we (most of us) already have, instead of just saying "Okay guys, we're going to let you decide to buy the maps and Halo 3 multiplayer seperatly if you wish." ? Does that seem fair to you? It does to me. Look let me explain why I think they should take out the maps and H3 multiplayer.

I bought a bag of chips. That was a week ago. Now I want to buy some cookies. Well I can't unless I buy a bag of chips again. Of course, there are some that haven't bought the chips. But isn't it better for those that haven't bought the chips to buy them separately if they want to? Instead of being forced to buy the chips with the cookies? This way it would help both groups. Those that bought the chips and those that haven't. That way, everyone wins and those that haven't bought the chips have something magical called choice, instead of being forced. (Yes I have posted this before BTW).

Does this seem fair to you? It does to me.

Omen, why do you continue this? Do you think your whining and crying will change anyone's minds? You said yourself you're buying the game, so why continue to argue? We're getting a new, kick-ass Campaign that will be the best Campaign ever (imo), Firefight which will be better than Survival Mode, Horde, Zombies, and all of those, and a Halo: Reach beta, which hopefully is good, and 3 new maps which will be even better than the first 3. Stop complaning and get over yourself.

(Even though your reply will consist of: "But were paying for dis shizzzz twice!11!!121")

Either state a better argument, or stop posting.
Didn't you leave? Didn't you get mad because I already answered all your questions and you admitted that WE ARE paying for something twice? Didn't you say yourself "Yes we are!"? Didn't you? Yes you did. What does that mean? I changed your mind, that's what It means.

Regardless, this isn't to change anybodies mind. This is to bring awareness of this exploitation. I will stop arguing when people realize the truth.

You are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ignorant. All you can process in your mind is: "Z0MFG DEY R RUPPING UZ 0FF2121!"

I won't say anything else so you don't have an excuse to ignore the statement this time:

Tell me how that is not worth $60.

Yes, I said were paying for 2 map packs again. SO THE -blam!- WHAT? Jesus kid, get the hell over your incredibly small mind. It's only what, an extra $10-$20 dollars? What does it matter anyway? You're still going to enjoy the Campaign and Firefight.

And trust me, we realize what you're saying. You keep posting the same -blam!- over and over and over. Like I said, either come up with a better argument, and stop ignoring my statements, or leave.

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE THINGS IN BOLD

Considering that, once again, it is Bungie's decision, and that they have to account for the money they would lose for releasing new maps and a new game simultaneously from people either buying the maps and playing those or ODST and forgetting about Halo 3 altogether, yes.

If someone buys the chips they might not be hungry enough to want the cookies and vice versa, and the storekeeper needs money to keep running his chip-and-cookie shop, yes? I really don't see the necessity for the analogy, though it was fun, made me hungry though.

Ah yes, and the one thing I forgot to put in my first post, having them on a standalone disc means it doesn't take up hard-drive space, correct? For those of us who bought them off marketplace and still have the standard-size hard drive, this is even better, as if frees up space for other add-ons and XBLA games. If this is indeed the case, the first thing I'll do is get those maps off my hard drive and finally have room for other stuff again, it's been full for a while now.

  • 07.07.2009 10:57 AM PDT

Ok people. This is getting alil old. lets just PRETEND that this wonderful new game didn't make you re-perchase maps(if you already bought them) i personally don't think $60 is too steep of a price 4 a new campaign and mult player experience. just lie to yourself and say the maps are free, you just have to pay alittle much for a smaller game(awesome as it may be)
Your going to give them your money regardless, why argue?

I expected more from you Slegger. You've been with this thread since the beginning; you know all the answers to every single question in your post. Regardless, here you go:

ANSWER TO FIRST PARAGRAPH: It's not worth $60 (without the maps and H3 multi) for this reason: When Bungie, the creators, said that ODST was worth 30-35, they were finished with campaign completely. Why else would they estimate a price? If it weren't finished they wouldn't have estimated a price to begin with, it wouldn't be fair, would it? Now you may say that the the value rose because they added Firefight. Not exactly. They estimated the price after Christmas. According to their latest podcast, They were playing firefight on Christmas. That means that when they estimated a price for their game, they were already finished with Firefight also. So they thought that Campaign and Firefight are worth 30-35 together. That means that they're not worth $60 (without maps and H3 multiplayer).

ANSWER TO SECOND PARAGRAPH: This paragraph is pathetic. I will still answer you though. We're not paying for the 2 map packs only, we're paying for H3's multiplayer also. I don't know who pays for your stuff but I think 20 dollars is a lot of money for it to just be thrown in the trash can. Who the hell are you to tell me what I'm going to enjoy or not?

ANSWER TO THIRD PARAGRAPH: Let me help you rephrase that first sentence. YOU realize what I'm saying. There's many that don't. Didn't you see all these people that don't realize it? Go to the other pages and a take a look, I'll wait.... Done? You see? There are many that aren't aware of this fact. Secondly, the only reason I'm saying this over and over again, as you put it, is because I keep getting confronted with the same questions. So the same answers apply to them. I'm sorry if you feel like I've ignored you (Don't you get enough attention at home?), but really. Have I? I've answered every single post you've made in this thread.

Happy?

Forklift enthusiast.

I think that we are paying for something twice, however we do get new maps, a new campaign etc. and we can save space on our hard drives by deleting the maps off them as they are on the ODST disc.

I thought it was MS's decision on the price. Regardless, it was hitler's decision to kill people. Doesn't mean it's right. It's not right to charge us again for something most already have.

Yes the chip-and-cookie shop owner needs money. Doesn't mean he has to get it by exploiting people into buying something twice. I mean think about it. Where else do I get forced to buy something twice? No where. Every single thing in the world comes separately. Bungie and MS seems to be the only ones that think charing for something twice is a good idea. And why do they think this? Because they know that people aren't going to do anything about it. If ODST is a success, all the other gaming companies are going to see that charging twice for something is something the customer doesn't mind doing. It's ludicrous I tell you.

I agree with you on that last part. Still it doesn't negate the fact that we're being charged twice.

Personally, for me, a price is justified if I enjoy the game. I think that I am going to play Firefight for a long time, play the Campaign with my friends alot, also, I am asuming that you will be able to download to hard drive this time, for faster loads. I will also play the Reach beta when it is released, and enjoy that with my friends, too. ODST looks like an awesome game, and if they release Firefight DLC, count me in.

exactly my point of view.... I think this game is not expensive at all, because like all Halo games, I'll spend tons of hours playing it^^

It's not about it being expensive or not. It's about us paying twice for something. We are! If you fail to see this I don't know what to tell you except to read some of the posts in this thread.

Or say why you think we aren't, I'll tell you why we are.

I personally think you people should hook up in a game of Halo and blast each others faces over and over till we agree on a winner. that would be alot more entertaining than whining like bunch of ladies on some forum, don't you? Or you can kick each other in the testicles till one of you falls down.

No. Here's what were getting with Halo 3: ODST:

Brand new Campaign A GENERIC CAMPAIGN
Brand new Co-Op Mode, Firefight. IDEA HAS BEEN USED BEFORE
Halo: Reach Beta Worth 5 bucks
New Achievements Achievement whore, achievement whore
All the maps ever made for Halo 3 (including Mythic Part 2) Worth about 15 bucks
New armor customization I totally hate the idea of this
New emblems Never really cared
And all the other small things (New weapons, VISR, enemies, tactics etc.) Worth 5 bucks

MY response is in Bold I hate every idea of a GAME TACKED ON TO ANOTHER GAME being 60 bucks, The whole Half Life series was only 30 bucks and that came with Portal, and Team fortress 2.

Wow from chips and cookies to hitler? No wonder your threads keep getting deleted. I think that's a little extreme, and I never said that the fact that it was someone else's decision was right merely because they made it, people make wrong decisions too, I just said it wasn't your decision. Maybe it was Microsoft, I'm not sure, but it definitely wasn't you. I'm also getting tired of that sort of thing, but it is a forum, so what's the last resort for an argument for most people? Compare your opponent to hitler. Yeah, that's mature, original and effective. It sure makes me want to stop typing, not that I think you are right at all, but I think that someone who would make such a comparison doesn't deserve an reply, and rest assured this is the last one you'll get from me. Needless to say, equating consumer products to genocide is not a good argument, unless those products cause those deaths, and I don't see anyone getting killed by an exploding Halo disc.

As for buying things twice, do you have any movies on DVD you previously had on VHS? When you are done eating those cookies don't you eventually buy some more? Also, let us not forget that despite your moral outrage, you have already said you are buying ODST as well. And you need not worry about other companies making us buy things twice, if anyone but Bungie had tried it, they would've lost millions. If anyone else does try it, it will only sell if there is loads of other new content included with the package, while ODST might not have loads, it is still not as though you are buying it twice with no additional reasons, and though this likely was said before, you cannot ignore the fact that no one is forcing you to buy ODST. I, however, can begin ignoring this thread. Next time you want to have a serious discussion, treat it as a serious discussion.

You know, I thought twice before saying that, but I thought maybe you would be mature enough to understand and not take it out of proportion. MS and Bungie aren't my enemies. If you think the comparison was extreme, then so be it. It had to take me to do an extreme comparison for you to realize the truth. I tried to get you to understand with the chips-and-cookies, and I'm sure you did. Sorry it had to take me to compare it to a 1943 event, but it looks like you're too proud of yourself to realize you were wrong. What more is there? What I tried to accomplish by that "extreme" comparison was to show you that just because it's someone decision for something, doesn't mean it's right. I thought you didn't understand this based on your previous posts.

No one is forcing me to buy ODST. I am being forced to buy content I already own IF I choose to buy ODST however. Aren't I? You are trying to pull justification out of thin air. There is NO reason for me to buy something twice. "But i need space in my HDD!" Oh pish posh. Just because you need space doesn't mean I do. I have a 120 GIG HDD. I don't see how I''m ever going to run out of space.

BTW: My threads have never gotten deleted. I said in OP that threads with this topic have gotten locked. Why? Because of people like you that take things out of proportion.

Ooh didn't even know you responded.

Bungie and Microsoft both said they made the Campaign longer than originally planned. And just because they estimate a price doesn't mean they are done. It could mean they are just halfway through production and know a general idea of how much it'll be (Not the official confirmed price)

Okay, so we're paying for Halo 3's multiplayer too. So? Who cares, you're still getting a bunch of new awesome features. And I pay for things with my own money, and no, $20 is nothing in today's world. Neither is $100, even $1000 only goes so far. You obviously have your mom buy your things if you think $20 is a lot. And you said yourself you're buying the game, so that obviously means you like the look/feel and idea of the Campaign and Firefight if you're buying it.

Even if they aren't, it won't matter in the end, they're still going to buy it, they don't care what were actually paying for. Still, why repeat it? Like I said, in the end it won't matter, they'll still buy the game regardless if we were only paying for Campaign.

Seriously though dude, I don't know why you won't process this into your mind:

We are getting Firefight, Campaign, Halo: Reach beta and 3 new maps. Do you understand that? Good. Alright, now we get the Halo 3 Multiplayer and the other map packs, which we already pay for. The 4 new features we ARE getting, are worth more (to me) than Halo 3's Multiplayer (which is 2 years old) and Map Packs (which are all very old, even Mythic Part 1 was released early with Halo Wars on March 3, which makes it over 4 months old, which is a fair amount of time). The new features will have new weapons, features, enemies, vehicles, and a general new experience.

Now. Would you rather Halo 3's Multiplayer, and the old map packs, or the new Campaign, Firefight, Halo: Reach beta and 3 new maps.

IF you're not completely retarded (or really linear on making your point) you would have chosen the second option. So, there's your answer. You're getting your moneys worth simply because it's new and Bungie said themselves it's worth the $60, they filled the Campaign and Firefight with enough content to be worth it.

That's you opinion on what the features are worth, not the actual amount of work and time that goes into them. And to prove that your opinion is really bad, all the map packs put together is about $35 dollars. You can't argue with me and say you're right when you have no idea how good the Reach Beta will be, it could be worth $100 for all you know. These posts of when people "judge" what they think what this and that are worth is stupid, biased and completely irrelevant.

Btw, so what if I'm an Achievement Whore? I like video games and I like the feeling and challenge of getting achievements. It's called a hobby. It's called doing something you like to do. Your hobby is probably going around flaming people, good for you. If you like it, do it. I don't care what you think of me.

The 4 new features we ARE getting, are worth more (to me) then Halo 3's Multiplayer (which is 2 years old) and Map Packs (which are all very old, even Mythic Part 1 was released early with Halo Wars on March 3, which makes it over 4 months old, which is a fair amount of time).

Jesus christ slegger. You're saying the same things over and over again. I might as well copy and paste the last post here.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU DON'T CARE. If you don't care you are welcome to leave. People tend to contribute very little to the discussion if they don't care. Apparently we do care. We already stated why we care.

Why don't you care? Oh right, because you like throwing away money. That sounds like a personal problem, don't you think?

Come on Slegger get real. I've grown to like you during these past days, but your repetitiveness is annoying.

Just stop trying. What do you lose if we complain anyway? Anything? Didn't think so.

I only mentioned the word "care" once. Again, stop ignoring my facts and reply to them, by you just simply dissing me proves I'm right.

I didn't "diss" you.

What is there to answer in your "facts"?

this?

You already said this and I already answered it..

This?:

Good job, you can't argue with my facts because they are right so you choose to fall back on your ass and simply say "u alrdy sad dat nobz1!!1one!!1".

I am back, and I am still disappointed that I threw away my money on Halo 3 when I could have gotten it with ODST for the price of the original Halo 3. Then again, how many expansion packs do you know that costs the same amount as a regular game? There's only one answer that I know of: Halo 3: ODST.

See? You again chose to ignore my post. You know you're pathetic and can't come up with a good reply so you choose to act like a 5 year old and flamebait me, or whatever you want to call that crap.

How about you reply to my post, and I will then prove you wrong.

first paragraph: Why else would they estimate a price? If it weren't finished they wouldn't have estimated a price to begin with, it wouldn't be fair, would it? It's obvious there were finished. Bungie has to be dumb to estimated a price to an unfinished product.

second paragraph: This paragraph is about you not caring. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU DON'T CARE. If you don't care you are welcome to leave. People tend to contribute very little to the discussion if they don't care. Apparently we do care. We already stated why we care.

Third paragraph: I already stated that this isn't to make the game fail horribly.. This is to give awareness that's all

fourth paragraph: It doesn't matter if you think that paying for something twice is okay as long as we get more content. We are getting more content but we're paying for that too. I don't think its okay to waste money ttwice on one thing. Doesn't matter what other content it has in there (because WE'RE STILL PAYING FOR THAT TOO!)

fifth paragraph (and rest): I would rather MS not include the maps and H3 multiplayer in ODST. You seem to think it's okay to pay one thing twice. The question in OP is whether we are or not. It's not whether you think its okay or not. You yourself said that we are. That's the question in the poll. Meaning that you and I voted for the first option.

The post where all you did was show quotes of things I already "said", but I didn't. That one. Or, we can drop this and I can go do something else, which would be good.
