Subject: People seem to forget the rules This could help.. ~|-improvment not...

Since alot of people seem to be forgetting the rules, you could have a "text box" (for lack of a better word) like the one saying the text markup tags, Stating some often-broken rules.

It might work, but it might take up too much space.

Yes, nevermind that fat blob of unused space to the right of the forms list and the text markup tags.

I don't know if it would work. You'd be surprised how many threads show up here asking how to insert links when it is in a box at the far right. Most people probably wouldn't even acknowledge the fact that it is there if it is to be put there.

A very valid point. If people don't read the rules in front of their face, what's going to make them look to the side and have a sudden epiphany.

You see? We could have prevented this!

True, but, it probably would help somewhat. I hope.

(sorry for the double post)

Forum Tutorials --- WATCH THEM AND LEARN

It's hard enough getting people to read the panels we have now, yet alone a new one. People would still miss them. It's a good idea, but it would have to stand out more. Make it yellow and or red perhaps.

lol. Wow, how ironic it is that in a thread about rule breaking, turns out to have an off-topic, spam post and a double post (i know it wasn't your fault).

Ah well, good idea to raise awareness.

Nice save. ;) If ya wouldn't have said anything, no one would have noticed, though. It still would be cool to have that at the right but I still doubt anyone would look at it. It might help a little.

In the words of a company that will remain nameless:

-Every little helps.

Yes, the rules should be clearly displayed in forums

It's a good idea, but like Tazmaniandude said, people don't even read the text markup tags, much less the rules.

  • 05.25.2005 4:23 PM PDT

But, as littlerat said, making it red or yellow could help. Or both. Or whatever they think will be best.

Oh yeah? . . . Well . . . what if they're colorblind? Then what will they do? Okay, my argument only goes so far.

  • 05.25.2005 5:30 PM PDT

If their colorblind then- they could uhh... Make them.... Hey can colorblind people see glow-in-the-dark stuff? lol...

Of couse they can. They just have problems distinguishing colours. (trust me, my brothers are colour blind)

Anywho, let's make them bold, red and obvious. I think it could really help.

Something tells me if a big pop up window came up with bold letters saying, "this is how you use text markup tags", people would still ask how to link something.

  • 05.26.2005 8:57 AM PDT

Yes but then we could tell who is really stupid. Then tell them the cool people are in zanzibar.

  • 05.26.2005 11:30 AM PDT

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Or mabye it would be there a for month after you joined. I know that a lot of people assume they know the rules so they don't read them. Then, after a month, it goes away.

Nah. I ignore popups at all costs. If other people are like me, it would never get any attention because it is a popup.
