Okay I refer to this idea as " The War " because of certain aspects. Assuming that Halo 2's max kill count can go beyond 50, then this idea will work...despite it orginally being for CTF. But the CTF still works as well. It is also meant for the " UNSC vs Covenant " game type set up. Now the basic concept is about gaining and losing rank in a game while trying to win.

By rank I mean actual, people can see your rank, type thing. You choose from one of these classes. (Limits are just for default, it can be changed)

Spartan - Limit 3 per team
Marine Rifleman- No limit
Marine Medic- Limit 6 per team
Grunt- No limit
Jackal- Limit 6 per team
Elite- Limit 3 per team

Now after you choose your class you have to get flag captures or a certain number of kills in order to gain rank. However you must not die a certain number of times after you gain rank in order not to lose it. The follwoing is a chart on how you can gain/ lose rank.

The ranks in bold indicate the second default rank. meaning no matter how many times they die after this they can no longer lose their rank.

# Captures means how many at that rank in order to advance.

(Captures to gain next rank/kills to gain next rank/ deaths to lose current rank)

Ranks for the Grunt

Orange Pointed Shell- 1 capture/ 3 kills/ default rank
Orange Cropped Shell- 1 capture/ 3 kills/ unable to lose rank
Red Pointed Shell- 1 Capture/ 5 Kills/ unable to lose rank
Red Cropped Shell- 1 Capture/ 7 kills/ 3 Deaths
Black Pointed Shell- 2 Captures/ 10 kills/ 3 Deaths
Black Cropped Shell- 2 Captures/ 15 Kills/ 5 deaths
White Cropped Shell- 4 Total Captures to stablize rank/15 kills to stablize rank/ 5 Deaths

Ranks for the Jackals

Blue Shield No Helmet- 1 Capture/ 4 Kills/ default rank
Blue Shield With Helmet- 1 Capture/ 6 Kills/ unable to lose rank
Yellow Shield No Helmet- 2 Captures/ 10 Kills/ unable to lose rank
Yellow Shield With Helmet- 2 Captures/ 10 Kills/ 3 Deaths
Red Shield No Helmet- 3 Captures/ 14 Kills/ 5 deaths
Red Shield With Helmet - 3 Captures/ 16 Kills/ 5 Deaths
Purple Shield With Helmet- 5 Total Captures to stablise rank/20 Kills to stablize/ 7 deaths

Ranks for Elites

Blue Elite- 2 Captures/ 8 Kills/ Default Rank
Red Elite- 2 Captures/ 12 Kills/ Unable to lose rank
Black Elite- 3 Captures/ 15 Kills/ 3 Deaths
Gold Elite- 3 To Stabilize/ 20 to stablize/ 6 Deaths

Ranks for Marine Rifleman/ Medic

Unarmored- 2 Captures/ 10 kills/ 5 Deaths
Armored- 2 Captures/ 15 Kills/ 5 Deaths
ODST- 4 Captures to Stablize/ 15 To Stablize/ 3 Deaths

Ranks for Spartans
MJOLNIR Mk I- 2 Captures/ 10 kills/ Default Rank
MJOLNIR Mk II- 2 Captures/ 15 Kills/ Unable to lose rank
MJOLNIR Mk III- 3 Captures To Stablize/ 15 Kills to Stablize/ 3 Deaths

Now that is the whole rank thing. Several of you are probably thinking that this is a bit unfair to the Covenant and marines. Well I assure you, it isn't. Everyone's health levels are based after their rank on Legendary mode. Meaning everyone of them is a tough son-of-a-blam!-

Also about the MJOLNIR Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III. Mk I is the armor the Spartans first receiveed well befoer the events at Halo. Shields didn't exsist for them and won't for those in the Mk I armor. Once they hit Mk II however they get the shields as did the Spartans. Mk II is just the armor in Halo 2.

One other thing. Because this is based after the war in Halo no UNSC weapons can be used by the Covenant. Period. The Covenant despise our stuff for their actual use. The only good our stuff is to them is target practice and maybe war trophies and that's about it. Also the UNSc has it's weapon limits as well. Here is a list of what the humans can use.

Ghost (All humans)
Banshee (Spartans)
Plasma Rifle (All humans)
Plasma Pistol (All humans)
Needler (All humans)
Plasma Grenades (Spartans)

Well that's the basic ideas of my concept. Tell me your opinions on this. I would love to hear them. Also one other thing. All numbers and such can be munipilated by the game server in order to suit other people's needs.

So anyone think this is a good idea?

Complicated is right. I like the idea, it would make for interesting multiplayer. Keep 'em comin'.I had a similar fantasy about playing Halo2 online that was a lot like that now that I read it. Basically I'm hoping for very large multiplayer games over XBL (say 100 or so people in a game). The games are treated somewhat like a war and depending on your kills to deaths ratio (0-30% you get basic unit, 31-50% you move up, etc.) you have the option of starting the game as a Marine, Spartan grunt or whatever. Bots would fill in various ranks so the first few games wouldn't be all grunts vs. marines with SMGs. Anyway, you can gradually climb the ranks, get the proper recognition, weapons options and bonuses. That way, you'd really be scared if you saw a Spartan or Gold Elite because they would have to be almost unbeatable. I like the Human-Covenant war idea, but I don't know if Bungie is willing to put in the time to take it quite as far as you or I am thinking.

Yeah I forgot to mention something.

Every time you gain rank you have a flash(similar to Halo 1 when you grab a health pack) which indicates you have gained rank. Once this happens either(based on server choice) you automatically gain rank and your character model changes it's outward appearance or when you die your new rank is what replaces your old model.

just because he came up with a one good idea doesnt mean he should work for bungie...ive thought of this idea b4 but into soo much of depth as him....i thought of it when i was into the seige game on jedi knight jedi academy....it has something like this were u could pick from different ppl but there was no rank or anything like that....Hikaru's rank idea i think makes the game much more fun....but im sure that this will not b a game type in halo 2....because of a few reasons.....

1st...its sort of coping a few other games.....2nd....im sure theres tons of flaws that would tke forever to work out...3rd...it would b hard as $hit! imagine bein a spartan without a shield goin up against a gold elite or any elite...it only takes like 4 plasma rays (whatever u wanna call them) to kill u....im just sayin that its gonna b hard to work ur way up the rank system but im sure it could b done.....what i think is that if this were to become a game type or something like it....it would b download-able like a few months after the game has came out already....to me that would b a good idea because all the little prblems that im sure it would have could b worked out and the game type would kick a$$$!!!! it would b the only one i play probably....

Yeah that's what I'd rather have it as. A download for eventual use. Halo 2 must be perfect. Little add-ons can come later. PLus I should work for Bungie. I can draw just about anything, do computer drawing, I know some computer code, and I have great ideas left and right. But I'd rather be a poor underling that doesn't. That way Halo 2 have its full impact on me when I play it.

Its a good idea, but not for Halo. A lot of people dont understand that the thing that made Halo's multiplayer great is that is was simple. The gameplay was straightforward, but still had a lot of cool secrets for good players to discover. When you start to muddle the gameplay with complex goals and gametypes, it detracts from the basic elements that make a game great. I hope that they don't even add Elites to Halo 2's multiplayer.

I'm not saying Halo was a simpletons game by any means. However, it was easy to pick up, but hard to master, blended together to near perfection by Bungie.

yea i agree....i hope that bungie doesnt have elites in the multi-player....but there are a lot of ppl that do want it....i dont really care about it anymore just as long as bungie includes an option to not have elites or covenant in the multi-player....cause there are going to b advantages and disadvantages for both sides MC's and covenant...and i'd rather it just b MC's vs MC's so both teams are equal, no advantages or disadvantages....im sure that there will b an option cause it would b pretty dumb if there wasnt....

and do you know how big the maps would have to be

I really dont see the greatness of an elite... Spartans are just fine for me, its not like you can see yourself, specially for live its not like your gonna see what you look like so its just a pointless add on, why not just have the simple red vs blue, there doesnt seem to be much complain about that. Thats only my reason why i dont think elites should be in halo 2 MP.

I have not read anything yet so i don't know if its good or not, but this will not happen because we don't even know if you can use grunts riflemen medics and jackals or even Elite in Multiplayer yet, i'll read the rest now.

i too think it will be just a skin and nothing more, and since you can't see yourself, why pick the color of your own suit in your profile? you just can't see yourself so what does it matter? i find that since you can pick your own color its makes the game just that much better.
