With Halo 3 Bungie gave us the forge "map editor." This brought a whole new level of community involvement with Halo. That was good, but i think it's time for the community content to evolve.

Ever since Halo CE, people had been making their own stories, fan fictions. People were so into the universe they felt the need to make their own contribution. They wanted to feel like their character was fighting this conflict with the covenant. Well why not let them do just that ?

My idea is to give the users a Custom campaign editor. What this would do is let people make their own stories in the Halo universe. You would have a basic terrain / map / object editor, enemy spawn points, friendly spawn points, and an event system. You would also have weapon spawns and such. You guys know what a map editor is so let's talk about the event system.

In simple terms this would let you tell the game, when this or that happens do this. This is almost essential for a story. Say for example if the player passes this spot send an enemy dropship. The possibilities would indeed be endless.

It would be an evolution of the way people can express their stories. You could record voice cooperatively or by yourself. Then implement that in the event system. Say you want to make a Sniper mission ? Make it so the enemies are slightly less aware.

Would you the fans be interested in something like this ? Would you even use it ? Feel free to make suggestions and such.

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

in a nutshell : a map editor.

not gonna happen. ever.
M$ wouldn't be able to charge us for more maps.

if it has halo in it, it can't be free, and it can't have you have things for free.
edit :
obviously, I am interested and would love it. I just definitely don't expect such a thing.

There's always ways to get people to buy new content. Perhaps include new objects and such. That's not really relevant though, as it would be a campaign editor. Not a multiplayer one. Maybe limit the amount of people you can play co op with on custom made campaigns. They could also block off certain playlists if you don't have the maps.

So it would work sort of like Halo: Custom Edition? Nice idea; but I just enjoy writing fan fiction. Would be pretty cool if I could turn them into a game though.

I think a better alternative would be something more similar to forge. Microsoft wouldn't allow a full blown editor. There would be several preset blank maps for editing. Objects that could be placed include all enemies, simple objectives, weapons and vehicles. There would be no story.

For vehicles you would place a vehicle then highlight it and press X and see this:
Spectre
Driver - None
Passenger(left) - None
Passenger(right) - None
Gunner - None

For enemies you would place the enemy then highlight them and press X and see this:
Grunt
Weapon - Plasma Pistol
Rank - Minor

Objectives could include enemies that must be killed, allies that must be save and switches.

Cutscenes could work too.

You get some people together, go into player mode, and act out the cutscene, like you would for machinima. The game could have a cutscene editor in too.

Awesomeness will Ensue

While an excellent idea, how would they put this in one disc and make it user friendly?
It's not gonna happen.

They did it with Far cry 2 no problem, and they have about a hundred hour long campaign. As for cutscenes though, you could incorporate project natal. You would be able to have life life motions easily. Perhaps even choose a player model for who you want to be animating.

Those multiplayer maps were tiny and, I would expect Bungie to still include Theater.
