Subject: ODST is NOT an expansion

Duracell.
I don't keep going and going and going and...
but i Start, and just don't Stop.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

according to a Microsoft employee when cornered by Joysiq about the price increase compared to what had originally been hypothesized by Bungie, he said:

"At the time of those statements, the overall scope of Halo 3: ODST was not yet finalized, and since then the project has grown increasingly more ambitious. We believe this standalone experience is MUCH MORE THAN JUST AN EXPANSION"

so what does this mean?

it means this is considered a full game, not an expansion. Bungie has said it has a longer campaign now, it has much more to it than they originally planned.

Sounds like a bunch of Justin Bieber wannabes in here. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too.

I'll bet that if the game didn't have Halo 3's multiplayer, it'll cost $45 like it was intended.

except that Halo 3's multiplayer was to be included right from the begining. that was part of the plan when they said they though 30 bucks

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

It is an expansion, Bungie has stated that since they announced it last year.

Wrong. Bungie and Microsoft both said theres enough content in it to warrant the $60 dollar price tag and making it a full game. Bungie made the Campaign way longer then they originally did, which is one of the reasons it's a full game.

Yes, Bungie did state it was just an expansion early on.

They also stated later that they added more content than they expected, and they now consider it more than an expansion. Do you not trust the OP's source?

"according to a Microsoft employee"

why would you believe this guy? he is a Microsoft employee, not a bungie employee! He can't go telling people what Bungie's game is.

Bouncing between here and Waypoint. When I get banned from one I go to the other,

Although I will agree with the general opinion that current owners of Halo 3 and the map packs are kind of getting overcharged a bit here.

So you don't need Halo 3 to play ODST?

Correct. The game will ship with 2 discs. One is the ODST campaign and Firefight. The other has the entire Halo 3 Matchmaking experience, including ALL Halo 3 multiplayer maps.

No, it really wasn't. Originally, only the Mythic Map Pack was intended to ship with the game.

Surely the last person you want to ask about a game's value is a Microsoft representative. As I see it, it was barely a season before the game was finished that Bungie announced this game was little more than an expansion and would not sell for $60. Seeing as most of the time since then has been spent play-testing and de-bugging, I find it very unlikely that Bungie could have created enough extra content to send it into full-fledged game territory.

so what does this mean?

That mean it's a standalone expansion which mean you don't require the original game to play it, it's a bonus to Halo 3 and it's too big to me a normal expansion, just like any standalone expansion.

The quote from microsoft employee was pretty clear about that.

Dude.. Omg you guys took this the wrong way.

MS is saying it is not an expansion, why? BECAUSE IT HAS THE MAPS AND HALO 3 MULTIPLAYER. Without them, it would be an expansion. You guys have to read. The source you provided says:

By: Microsoft Rep
"We believe this standalone experience is much more than just an expansion. Halo 3: ODST provides a new campaign from the point of view of an entirely new character. Combine that with three new multiplayer maps, the entirely new cooperative mode called Firefight, and the complete Halo 3 multiplayer collection on a standalone disc, we feel this is a good value and tremendous addition to the Halo franchise."

They're trying to say what I've said millions of times. The game in itself is an expansion without the maps and halo 3 multiplayer!

Since Joystiq understood what Microsoft said, they even said:

By: Joystiq
Chances are if you're a hardcore Halo player, you already own the multiplayer maps, so you'll basically be paying for content you already own

Bungie never said the price. they took a guess when pressured. And really they could of and said they did, add alot more gameplay
