Im the best of the best and better than the rest....

Well here it is. In the book First Strike, By Eric Nylund. Which takes place after Halo: CE and before Halo 2. When the Master Cheif goes to reach to see if any of the spartans survived. It also explains the battle on the suface of Reach. On page 133 it says this......

He secured the weapon and turned to see what Will had found. Will examined a plastic wrapped rifle. He removed the rifle from the locker, ripped off its sheathing, and shouldered it. He nodded with satisfaction. Unlike the MA5B, this rifle had a longer barrel and stock, with a cutdown muzzle shroud. A scope was mounted on an optics railing along the top of the rifle. Will hefted a clip and inserted it into the receiver. He shouldered the rifle again and peered through the scope. "Auto zoom, nice."

Later on it describes the weapon being shot which says that it shot in 3 round bursts.

So you tell me what you think that means, I am 100% sure that is a Battle Rifle. Even though they dont get the weapon till the end of the battle, way, way, later. I think it will still be in Multiplayer.

Also in the back of my mind I highly doubt that bungie will put the Battle Rifle back in Reach. So tell me what you think. BTW Fred and Will are spartans for those of you who dont know.

It might be the other rifle. I can't think of the name, but it is a cross between the assualt rifle and BR.

great. BR is a good weapon. Fred most likely will be in the game because he was the leader of Spartan Red Team during the battle of reach.

It all depends on what they want to do with gameplay. From there they'll adjust the canon accordindly.

Cant wait for it. I think that will be great with or without the br.

well...sure...but there were plenty of BR's in Halo 2, but there won't be any in ODST so...canon doesn't really matter for much of anything. Besides, the BR is only good for multiplayer. In single player it really doesn't work as a primary rifle because ammo is sparse most of the time.

-blam!- the Free World!!!!

Wait, you were the first to state this evidence? I knew that as soon as I read that page a week ago for the first time. I was sure someone else had already stated this fact. That was the only thing stopping me from making a thread exactly like this!!! Good job though, now at least someone finally confirmed this.

Yes, that was the battle rifle in the book.

Listen, The BR probably will be in the game. The only reason people think it won't because ODST traded the BR in for a Pistol.

Let me put it this way... the reason that they killed the Halo CE pistol is because its a bit awkward from a multiplayer balance standpoint to balance a dual-wieldable medium ranged weapon. I mean, it would just be so unique, how many weapons do you know of that operate well at medium range and can be dual wielded other than the pistol? All the dual wieldables in Halo 3 at least are close ranged. It simply didn't fit into their blueprints, so to solve the problem, they transferred the role of the pistol to a weapon that could obviously not be dual-wielded, and created a sidearm pistol without a scope to be used as a dual wieldable weapon, opening up an avenue for headshots at close range.

In Halo 3, again, dual-wieldable medium ranged weapon didn't fit into the system, so the battle rifle was there again.

So why is the pistol in ODST? Simply put, the ODST can't dual wield, so the awkwardness of dealing with a dual-wieldable medium ranged weapon is gone from the system, so Bungie decided to please fans by bringing back the scoped pistol instead of the BR.

Given that we will probably be playing as spartans and given that it is unlikely that they will kill the dual-wielding system, I'm guessing its back to BRs in Reach.
