As I recall Halo 1 didn't have any brutes or drones, and in the Halo 2 instruction manual it sayys they are new to the covenenant. So I don't think they will be in Halo: Reach. But all I know is that it will be fun to be able to kill some elites again in Campaign.

I think elites will be the main enemy you fight on reach but maybe on one or two missions you will fight some brutes and drones.

...And when i am standing there, watching as the slingshot is cranked back into the shadows, a smile will bestow upon my face as I softly whisper one word..."blam...."

Check out my Youtube Channel!

yes but brutes were being trained at this time. only elites, grunts, jackles, and hunters were sent to reach.

I thought they were to be rehabilited during around 2552. They were in Halo Wars and started the attack on Harvest. It's not like they're "new" new to the Covenant. They're just newer than other members of the Covenant. They just needed to gain the Prophet Hierarchs' trust. The Hierarchs found out that the Covenant influence affects the brutes faster than the elites.

if this is before, the covenant should have brutes in their army because they attacked harvest first, harvest was attacked by brutes so obviously they will be in it.

If there were Brutes and Drones at Reach, why weren't there any in H: CE?

Because the brutes werent trusted with something like defending Halo, only elites were good enough for that

Brutes attacked Harvest, Harvest happened 27 years before Halo 1

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

i hope the brutes are like halo 2's they were oh, so satisfying to kill.

Yeah, Brutes in Halo2 were ALOT better then the ones in Halo3. Their alot tougher and i miss the Brute Plasma Rifle, duelwilding that was crazy.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

C'mon you guys,

Brutes and Drones were both a part of the Covenant during the attack on Reach. However Brutes were not trusted in large combative roles until much later, when the Prophets realized how easily they could be manipulated. There were Brute ships in small scale, but they were dumbed down compared to Elite vessels.

Now to clarify, the fleet that attacked Reach (as detailed in The Fall of Reach and First Strike) did not include either Brutes or Drones. That being said the likelyhood of them being on the planet Reach for this game is very low. It is not however, impossible. If Bungie decides to play with events a little, then it may happen.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we have no idea what this game will cover. All we have to go on are theories and assumptions at the moment, so it's hard to say what will be where.

because they didn't follow the pillar of autumn to installation 04, only Thel' Vadamee (Arbiter)'s ship which was an elite ship followed them through slipspace

But that does not mean there were Brutes at Reach to begin with. Everything we know about that engagement does not give any reason to believe so. Even the fact that Brutes were utilized on Harvest proves little, as the circumstances of their use their were quite special, if you recal the novel Contact Harvest.

They better not make Brutes play a large, role in Halo: Reach, hell, I'd actually be very happy if Brutes were never seen in Halo: Reach. They ruined Halo 3's campaign.

Does it really satisfy you to gun down a big dumb bullet sponge?

Maybe if those big dumb and slow bullet sponge opponents actually took cover instead of standing in the open most of the time. Enemies with armor instead of shields just love being filled with tons of bullets. What's up with the melee and berserk mode in Halo 3? In Halo 2 they were cheap, but in Halo 3 they are weaker than piss. Can't Bungie find a good medium.

And for the guy who hates the Drones. Shut up. I love the drones. They are fast paced flying enemies that force you to aim at the speed of light. It's people like you that tricked Bungie into ruining the oldschool Flood.

True, as i stated in my post a little further up the page. However the books are the only "history" that we have to go off of. Everything else is assumption.

Don't get cocky now!

The simplest reason why brutes werent mentioned in the novels The Fall of Reach, and First Strike were becase those books came out way before Halo 2 made it into any XBOX Magazines. Pretty much, the Brutes either werent invented yet in Bungie's "Halo Bible", or that info wasnt made available to the writers to put into the books because they didnt want to ruin the surprise for when Halo 2 came out.

Timeline wise, the Brutes were accepted into military before the events in the novel Contact Harvest, as that book described how the brutes were in rivalry with the Elites, but weren't given access to much technology. This was due to the fact that they nuked themselves on their homeworld and were just recovering from the stone age into the industrial age when discovered by the prophets.

So it makes perfect sense that Brutes will be in Halo: Reach.

I guess everyone missed this because it was at the bottom of the first page :S
