First, let me say that I love every Halo game except Halo Wars (which I do own). When I started watching the trailer I was like "Okay... what is it?" and then it said Halo Reach. At that point I figured I'd see what else was shown (if anything). Nothing. But guess what? I don't need any more details, I already can tell it's going to suck.
First off, the book was horrible. I own Fall of Reach, Ghosts of Onyx, and The Cole Protocol. The last two were awesome, I hated the first one. Why? Because it was boring. What makes Bungie think making a game out of it will be better?
Second, note the fact that there's five spartans up there. I liked the idea of one guy, front and center, as the protagonist. One super-soldier to play as? Cool, I can deal with that. But five?! In Halo CE, they put the second player in the cutscenes and altered some of the events to make the story work. Halo 2, the guy was just a clone. Oh well. Halo 3, Arby was made Player 2, everything was worked to fit him in perfectly. But five super-soldiers who are good with one thing (and that only)? BORING.
Third, can't they think of something better to make a game out of? ODST was spot-on, second best game ever made (Crackdown is immortal). Every Halo game (except Wars) had an excellent storyline. Now, let's review the books. Reach would be a candidate, but shouldn't be chosen. Ghosts of Onyx seems like the perfect candidate. Cole Protocol would be horrible. And I haven't bought the other ones (Contact Harvest sounds fairly good though). Reach would be one of my last choices.
Bottom line is that if Bungie wants to gain the loyalty of it's fans for this game, they better show us the multiplayer quite a while before the Beta is released. Every Halo game has been self-advertising so far, but Halo Reach is going to take a lot more effort to gain love.
Lastly, I'm still going to keep my hopes up for a good game and try the Beta. I know this game won't completely suck, I'm just worried it might not be near as good as some of the other games. Bungie hasn't failed me yet, and Reach is sure to have something in it worthwhile.

Personally, I'd wait for any ounce of gameplay from the game first, then start judging. The trailer was to announce, not display, as there wasn't any gameplay.
