Subject: Any one else dissapointed in Heretic?

The puck stops here

I was pretty exited to get a first look at the new maps. I loved the map Midship in Halo 2, its a classic. But then when I saw the picture I was surprised to see the exact same map. Sure I know that equipment and new weapons and game play will change the game experience but is any one else dissapointed? I mean the did an exact remake of Lockout but changed its look to give something fresh and original... I'm sure it will be a great map, but I cant help but feel we're missing out.

What do you think?

IM A LEGIT 16

No.

I hear the platform in the middle doesn't move, but everything on the map is (in geometric terms) the same. The weapon placement is probably changed a bit.

I'm glad they made it just like midship. Do you remember how much people complained about lockout/blackout not being exactly the same? bungie is just listening to the community

I actually never heard any complaints about Blackout. I loved it; it captured the spirit of Lockout while brigning something new and refreshing

Yeah it's kinda hard for Bungie because somepeople say we want the same maps and some want the other. Like sandbox for instance 7 towers hot as hell and sandy but not the same! So go with whatever bungie does and love or hate.<and if you hate it screw you and go live with some hobo>

I would have preferred a brand new map rather than a remake, especially of a map I didn't care too much for.

However, Bungie listened to their community. They gave an exact remake of a map people begged for.

BXR= NOOBs 4shot=skills

i think they made it almost the exact same because MLG is going to make it into a map used on the tour and people just want the same midship feel to it.

I brought Halo 3 for a new game, a new experience and new maps.
I don't want old maps brought back.

This is the final map pack and it should of comprised of new fresh things to keep Halo going for a while longer, not a map that faded out many many years ago

Guys, let's say Heretic is the last remake of a map for Halo 3.
Is that makes you happy?

  • 07.08.2009 8:45 AM PDT

nope.

i don't think it is exactly the same. correct me if i am wrong, but i do not remember a sword being on midship. in the heretic pic, there is clearly a sword. i think this will be a fun map, it will have lots of new forge items.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I love it. I hate the new look of Lockout in Blackout. Human stuff just seems too jumbled and disorderly for a good competitive map in H2/3. If they would have done the same to Midship, I would have been pissed. The monochromatic environment adds to the atmosphere.

They also changed a lot in Blackout which made Lockout so great, and I'm glad they're not doing that to Midship.

Hopefully this will be an exact remake. Bungie's "fresh ideas" always tend to ruin the original map flow.

Maybe Heretic will be the only remake that truly works for this game.

I don't understand why people keep talking about Bungie listening to the fans in bringing this map back. Midship was not a good map, and anything it offers we already have in Assembly. Beyond that, I've only seen 3 people other than the people at the beginning of this thread actually say anything positive about Midship / Heretic. If Bungie were really listening to their fans, quite simply, we would be getting a Blood Gulch remake.

And yes there was a sword at the top on Midship.

And don't tell me Valhalla is our new Blood Gulch, because it isn't. Bungie said they made it in the "spirit" of Blood Gulch, but if that's the case it's a horrible failure because the map doesn't feel the same at all. The hill in the middle eliminates any Blood Gulch feel.

Blackout is not an exact remake of Lockout. They're both extremely similar, but they're aren't exact.

Oh, and people: Assembly =/= Heretic. They are 2 different maps.

EDIT: Let me reiterate. Heretic and Assembly are both totally, without a doubt different maps. They do not have the same layout. Assembly is more similar than Desolation than anything else.

I HATED MIDSHIP!!!!!!

Everyone understands that Heretic and Assembly are different, seperate maps. Everyone brings them up together because of how similar they are in layout, graphic design, size, and how they feel to play on. There is no reason to have both of these maps in one game.

Anyone who has been around these forums for a few years now can assure you that a Midship remake has been asked thousands of times.

Assembly does NOT have the same layout as Heretic. They both play differently. They're both purple. That's something I'll give you.

nope its gonna be sweet.

  • 07.08.2009 9:07 AM PDT

Josh 22, please look up the meaning of the word "similar". No one has claimed the maps have the same layout, but if you look at the major features in both maps, yes, they are rather similar. Assault and CTF gametypes feel the same on both maps because both bases have nearly identical ways in and out, both lend to a mid-range fight on an upper level across the map, but obstructions on the floor level tend to promote close-combat. Both are circular and symmetrical. They are similar to a large degree, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Soulself, I have been on these forums for years (since Halo: CE on the Xbox), I just don't post very often. I can assure you that far more complaints with Midship have been brought up than requests for a remake. Besides, my point was about listening to the community. No map, not even the legendary Midship, is more requested than Blood Gulch. Let alone maps like Hang 'Em High, Beaver Creek, or even Relic. All of those maps have their critics, of course, but I believe you would be hard pressed to find more requested maps.

Donuts > all other food

I knew this would happen. Everyone asked for Lockout, and got Blackout. People realised that Halo 3 does not play like Halo 2 did, thus everyone hated Blackout. People asked for Midship, their going to get Heretic. I bet people will complain about Heretic, too.

I loved Blackout, I hated Tombstone and coagulation though.

Blood Gulch was requested alot but Bungie said a while ago no remake of Blood Gulch and people still ask for it. And you said it yourself(i think) Previous Halo maps dont play the same so stop with Blood Gulch and live with Valhalla. Midship has been asked for millions of times on this forum and the Halo 3 forum.
