_______________________INTRODUCTION: The Hushed Casket_______________
John was thinking in his sleep, thinking of his life, his role as a soldier, his SPARTANS, they were gone now., all of them, he had nothing to go back to.
He walked into the large room with the mysterious lady at the desk, and the men with the sticks that hurt whoever they hit. Being told he was to become a "Spartan", a defender of earth and all her colonies. An indestructible force on the Battlefield. The perfect soldier, the one they needed him to be....
But, what was he to do now? He was stranded in unknown space that could be anywhere in the Galaxy, or worse, outside of the Galaxy.
John sped through the area in his Warthog, running over any of the fleeing Covenant in his path. He made his dash to the single Longsword Fighter craft in the hangar. Would he make it? Would he die in the blast?
He calmly said thought "We'll make it..."
Alone, alone all to his thoughts now. In his artificial sleep, no, it was his casket, he would die here, no doubt, it was his hushed casket, he would never speak again. Never really breathe the air, never really see again with his eyes closed in this fake ice.
Ripping the Combat form in half as he ran, he made a dash to the "Grav-tram" that would take him to the massive, majestic, and terrifying Forerunner Dreadnought . He leapt into the beam, and he was carried to this ship as it careened through the now destroyed Covenant city, High Charity. The ship was going to fast, no...To Slow!
He again, uttered those word in silent prayer to himself "We'll make it...."
He wondered how Cortana was. Was she spending her remaining existence thinking, as he was? Was she looking through the wealth of information taken from the Forerunners over there last adventures? The Halos, The Ark, The grand plot of The Forerunners, The Flood....The Flood.
They drove across, on, and around the fires. Fires that were caused by his doing, the destruction of a Halo, or to him,The Halo. An exact copy of the construct that changed the Galaxy forever. Designed to be the ultimate weapon against a nearly unbreakable foe, something you can push back, but never truly beat...A Flood, The Flood. He was not alone this time, he had The Arbiter, another warrior of immense power. Even the mighty Covenant feared him, but not as a Demon, like himself, but as a Heretic for finding the truth. As they approached the rear hangar to the ship, he accelerated one last time.
Now, John and his companion echoed each others words.
"We'll Make it..."
That is when it dawned on him, he could survive this. He could break out of his casket and find a way back home, a way to save his family, his Spartans, Dr, Halsey, who raised them as a mother, and Mendez, who was like the strict but caring father to the Spartans.......
He woke up. He smashed his powerful, armored fists into the glass that was holding him back. Again, he struck them against it. It cracked into a million pieces. The needles that were filled with medical knock-out fluid all tried to hold him down. He pushed off and flew through space, and grabbed on to a bulkhead. It felt good to move again, to be awake. He drifted until he could see outside the destroyed remains of his ship, Forward Unto Dawn.
It must be dawn itself on that planet now. The Blue star was just breaking over the curve of the planet. How long had he been asleep? He guessed at around a day or so. he checked his armors automatic clock. Two years. he wondered, did his dream, his requiem , take him two years to think through in cryo-sleep? Or was that his normally powerful and knowing mind coming up with the answer after two years?
It then donned him. Two years Two Years. He didn't age a second during his sleep, but Cortana, they both had no idea how long she had until she would become rampant, forcing him to kill her.
As he looked down and closed his eyes, imaging what he may have to do soon, he stared back at the planet under him. it was like Earth, blue water, green forest, deserts, woodland..At least from what he could see. then it came into view. He sighted a massive structure, at least taking up a quarter of the planet. A City. That meant civilization. His visor zoomed in, then he was stunned, it was a Forerunner City! if he could get there, he and Cortana could find a way home, he knew it.
He said it aloud this time
"We'll make it."

Chief floated over to the holo-pedestal where he could communicate with his A.I ally, Cortana. He grabbed the pedestal in order to slow himself down and spun around it so he could see it the right way up.
"Cortana?
There was no response. Had she gone rampant and eventually shut down in the time he was asleep? He said it again, louder. This time smashing his fist against the wall behind him.
"Cortana!?"
No reply. He yelled this time, deperate to hear her speak.
"Cortana!? Can you hear me!? It's John! I know a way out of here!!"
He waited, finally after what seemed like an eternity he heard something.
"Chief.....?"
He leaned over the pedestal. putting his helmet close to it.
"Yes, Cortana, it's me. I think i have found a way home."
A small emote of light appeared over the pedestal. It was a deep purple and blue tone. He wondered why she didn't appear already. Then she spoke:
"John, it's okay, I'm alright. i just put myself in a form of "sleep" to preserve my lifespan, and give me some time to read through everything we know about the Forerunners. Are you okay?"
Chief let out a sigh of relief Nothing had happened to her. He wouldn't be able to stand being out here alone. he looked back up at her, now fully appearing on the holo-pedestal.
"I'm fine Cortana. I think I've found a way out of here. Below us, on this planet there is a-"
Cortana interrupted. "Forerunner city, correct?"
"Yes, how did you kn-"
"Know already? I just did a quick scan of the planet. We didn't pick the site p before because it was on the far side of the planet, and as you can guess, we don't have much sensor power with half a ship."
Chief nodded. She was back to herself, the interrupting, sarcastic, intelligent trustworthy self.
"So, I'm guessing you know my plan and found a flaw with it?"
Actually, no, I don't please tell me."
"Do you have control of the ships engines and maneuvering boosters?"
"Why? I do, well, most of them, but why would we need the-."
"I see what you doing, she said." And it's crazy."
"Then, stay here." Chief said with a small grin on his face.
She smiled back at him, "unfortunately for us both, I like crazy."
They looked at each other. They both nodded in unison.
John heard Cortana over the intercom
"With my help, we'll make it."
