it is a good idea, but bonus doesn't soud good to me, it must be a main story. Like Halo 2 in that case the Arbiter had the best part of the story... bungie had to do levels for him.
Now the covenat won, I want to play as the winners of the battle too!!

Not to disagree with you (I quite like the arbiter parts of H2) but most people disliked the arbiter parts of H2. I don't think having compulsory levels as an elite would go down too well with many members of the community.

I do, however, love the idea of a bonus level or 2 as an elite. Possible as an easter egg for completing the whole game on ledgendary.

People didn't like playing as the Arbiter because they felt the Halo trilogy should be focused on the Master Chief. Now since we will probably not be playing as him, they shouldn't care if we have some bonus levels where we're an Elite.

ok, But Halo 2 was more successful than Halo CE... personaly I loved the surprise of the Arbiter story.
Only the people that don't like him say something in this forums... believe me there are LOTS of people that love to play as the Arbiter, I'm one of them xD

Don't get me wrong I loved the arbiter moments. From what I've heard though, the thing most people didn't like was the stealth element, many halo players like to go in guns blazing and that just didn't happen in the arbiter levels.
Having it optional is the best idea by far.

Totally. It would satisfy so many fans, add a new twist on gameplay, and would be a wonderful unlockable.

And it would also be cool if like you could order your squad of Grunts around with the D-pad in addition to calling a pair of Hunters for backup.

While I don't like the idea of turning it into a squad based system. I do like the idea of an Elite sidestory. Perhaps Half Jaw's rise to power? To me he is the coolest among the Elites.

I hate elites in the multiplayer mode, but I would love some Elite missions.

Elites are what makes Halo's storyline so captivating (for me at least), that's why Halo 3's storyline felt empty, and I'm not even buying ODST. Elites bring the magic.

Sadly yes but i'm just posting thoughts

here's just a thought but how about splitting the game in half for example you have parts where you are the UNSC say above reach defending the orbital MAC guns and then parts where you play as maybe the arby or a spec ops elite that takes out say the power generators for the MAC guns on reach. (sorry if i got any of it wrong its been awhile since i read halo fall of reach) that way your still following the story but you get both sides of it. this would make it more loyal to the book as its not all UNSC or all Covenant. then add a totally awesome final battle scene between the two or something as Reach is being glassed (sorry i loved the final battles in halo CE and Halo3 with you trying to escape as everything blows up around you). n like i said before if your trying to avoid Spartans have a totally pimped out Cyclops that ur vrsing as the elite n something equally baddass if ur playing as the UNSC. (i know cyclops's are only in Halo wars and is not part of Bungie's halo trilogy, but it would just be totally awesome)

It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag

I like it

by making it DLC they make money which is good for them and they also are able to spend more time working on it plus because its DLC it doesn't take up precious disc space meaning we get more stuff alternatively they could make it 2discs for like a collectors edition where u get the elite camp on the second one at the cost of some time spent on the project which isn't bad seeing as they've only recently announced it. besides it would only be about $15 AU or 1000 Microsoft points at most so its not that big a deal

One of the best idea's yet!
Bungie, you should really consider this!...PLEASE!

  • 07.26.2009 7:51 PM PDT

evan better than calling in grunts get a kill streak and become a hunter or other characor

  • 07.26.2009 7:57 PM PDT

This is what i wake up for :)

No i wouldnt be good atall, and it wont happen, and here is why.

A story, particularly a story for a video game, is meant to place you in the shoes of a particular character, and you have to be emmersed in this story through being this character, so if you played as an elite, it would destroy the story, in peter pan you dont prefer hook, because you see it from peter pans perspective, you grow to prefer peter pan, because you see more of him in the story, the only way of succesfully playing as the covenant, fighting the humans, is a completely seprate spinnoff game series, because you have to follow one side or the other, you cant do both at the same time, seperatly it works, but together not a chance, it would fail, people would find themselves only playing the elite levels to get to the levels where you play the spartans, because for the first 4 halo games(dont correct me on that reach will be the fifth game in the halo franchise after odst is released, its not an expansion pack its a completely new game, reach is halo 5), you followed a human campaign against the covenant, and therefore have grown fond of the human campaign.

How about if you beat it on Legendary, you unlock another 3-5 levels where you are an Elite?

No i think just think they should have possible two campaigns?

ill never play it,i hate killing marines

  • 07.26.2009 8:25 PM PDT

I only hate killing teammates, so if I was a elite I could go on a marine killing spree, and playing as a elite on reach would be a good back story, and even if bungie doesn't like people fighting marines there could be some other reason to become an elite, like going underground to find information from something and even find flood or some forerunner enemy's. Or at least give new elite armor for halo 3 multiplayer, if they don't do it for ODST. And on a side note: 2010 is a year away with more then likely halo based games in the future and who knows what they'll do? They could make a Halo RPG as a elite/marine, maybe even a game like EVE-online?...

  • 07.26.2009 9:59 PM PDT

be good fun killing marines remember the hopeless AI's in Halo CE and 2 finally a chance to get even. don't get me wrong bungie did a good job but marines shouldn't drive or have rocket launchers (you end up dieing more often than the enemy) from my personal experiences with shotguns in metropolis in H2. besides i reckon it would be a hit, not as much as say halo 3 but it would be a nice change to be an elite instead of the MC and because its from a different perspective Bungie has the opportunity to create an new game that supports the rest of the halo series but attracts the Covenant lovers to the series as well. that and it gives them a chance to see whether a full Covenant game would be worthwhile. its a win win, us gamers get to try something different and Bungie has the chance to fill in the blanks on the Halo timeline whilst appealing to a new audience
