So, as most of you remember, on the teaser trailer, one screen said, Where's Maddie?, or something to that nature. Bungie then apologized because it accidently sounded like the kidnapping. They also said that they had changed the name of that character. So could Dare be Maddie? It certainly sounds possible. Post your thoughts on this matter.

" Truth? You will Never know Truth!"

"My tears cannot cover the blood that has been spill."

"I lead my troops into battle. With strong morale and man power, we will overcome the invaders!"

I thought it was the robot in Marathon. You know Bungie's other game.

I fail to see why the Supa would really enough about Dare to have a "Go find her" line he could post on every street sign.

Then again. She IS a Section 3.....

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

It's possible I suppose. I don't , however, remember hearing them say they changed the name of the character. If they really did change the name of the character, then I can definitely see that as a possibility.

Yeah they did. I either read it in one of my gaming magazines, or in a Weekly Update. They apologized for the unfortunate reference and stated that they had changed Maddie's name.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

They didn't change anything, I don't think the apologised either since it was all just a mere coincidence that people on the forums brought up.

I thought that they just removed that one reference from the trailer. I do remember some sort of apology way back when.

That's what I thought. I was one of the people arguing how stupid it was that anyone was offended by it.

Yeah they did. Like I said in my above post, I read it in a Weekly Update or one of my gaming mags.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

I like that idea.
Seems highly plausible.

Yeah, I thought it was stupid too. I understand why Bungie changed it though. The news media would have caught wind of it and blew it way out of proportion.

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

Dude, Bungie took Maddie outta the picture of the Plot WAAAAY long ago. Like almost a day or two. They just threw that in there for a random reason.

Actually, yes they did change her name and apologized for the incident. It was in Official XBOX Magazine (OXM) Issue #92 where they interviewed Joe about the ODST trailer. Here is where he apologized:

OXM: One of the messages - "Maddie, where are you?" - seems too have been pulled due to fans linking this to the phrase to a website about missing real-world British toddler Maddie McCann. Will this fictional, Halo-world Maddie still appear in the game?

JS: The Maddie thing - we felt quite awful about that misunderstanding. There is a character named Maddie in the game, or there was. We're changing her name. She was a member of the...well, she was one of the characters in the game. She's still there, but she's named something different now. She's not an ODST.

This all but confirms that they changed DARE's real name from Maddie to Veronica.

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

Well then, since Dare is a Section 1, that answers the question.

Dare's a much better name...

Donuts > all other food

Seriously? Wow. That's kind of.... wow. People seriously complained about Bungie's charcter "Maddie"? Sheesh. Bungie was just brainstorming ideas for a character. Not making a reference to Madeline McCann. People get too worked up about sheer coincidences.

I think it's possible. Dare's stuck inside her pod for a while I'm pretty sure, so the Si may have been unable to contact her and wanted to. I think it was dare's idea to communicate with the SI.

I think she is stuck in her pod because the pod that says "press b to pry open" in the trailer is in the level "crater". On a firefight reveal somewhere they said the pod on the level was dare's.

No, actually this was out of the sheer stupidity of the fans. Some people stumbled onto the website for the missing girl, believing it to be related to an ARG, and I'm sure I don't need to tell you how disastrous that could have been.

  • 07.10.2009 10:17 AM PDT

that thing with the kidnapping and bungie was so stupid and pointless its like saying because your name is maddie dosent mean your the only one in the world

  • 07.10.2009 10:25 AM PDT

Being an Elite is its own reward.

Dare's name is Veronica, as said in the opening cutscene.
