In the trailer you can hear Spartan 259 trying to contact someone or something by the name of Nova 1. Does anyone have a theory of what it is?

It is probably a call sign of a character not introduced yet

Most people think its the callsign for the pelican that "drops" the spartans onto reach.

Loyalty is all I have.

Sounds like a call sign, for what or whom is yet to be determined

It's me, I'm Nova 1.

Seriously though I have no Idea, try reading the fall of reach if you already haven't, It sounds like some sort of ship or something to me though!

"We need you in that fight Noble 1!"

I'm pretty sure it's one of their warships that have the MAC Cannons. It's been awhile since I read TFoR so I can't remember what their fighter-class ships are called.

Nope. I bet it's just something that we don't know about yet. And the fall of reach doesn't happen in TFoR, most of it takes place in Halo: First Strike... TFoR is more like the story of the Spartans.

Well from the context, it must be either a pivotal warship that represents their only chance of winning the battle, or their main ground base that coordinates the UNSC forces.

Also, it's been awhile since I've read ANY of the novels, so forgive me for assuming that Reach fell during The Fall of Reach. =P

This was taken from Wikipedia, and seems to back up my theory:

------------------------------SPOILER ALERT----------------------------------------------------------------------

"The novel begins on Reach, as humanity fights the Covenant invasion forces. The last line of defense for the planet is an array of magnetic accelerator cannons (MACs) orbiting the planet. The Master Chief sends a team of Spartans to the surface of Reach to protect the MAC's planet-based power generators. Ultimately, the Covenant are able to destroy the generators and begin glassing the planet, melting its surface to glass. The surviving Spartans flee underground to the hidden headquarters of the Office of Naval Intelligence. There they meet Dr. Halsey who has uncovered a strange crystalline shard in a cavern built by the ancient Forerunner. Pursued by the Covenant, the Spartans retrieve the shard and collapse the passage behind them."

I read a thread awhile back that had a good theory:

Nova-1 was a contingent of marines from Charlie company, one of two, that were sent to retrieve the NOVA bomb. However, when the generators for the defense platforms with the MAC cannons were under attack, They were rerouted to defend them. Unfortunately, as people who read the book, all but 4 members of Charlie Company were annihilated by friendly carpet-bombing.

This makes sense, considering there's a person saying "Nova-1! Nova-1, do you read me? Nova-1?!"presumably that Nova-1(The leader of the group of marines) was killed in the carpet bombing.

It also works with the other person over the radio saying "There are still people down there!"

It also works with Sierra-259 saying "We've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere.", because the Spartans found the survivors of Charlie Company and then defended the generators.

That sounds pretty damn feasible. Can anyone confirm if it's "Noble" or "Nova"? It's a bit staticky but I was pretty sure I heard Noble after a couple listens.

In any case, that is a very compelling theory.

This, except I'm 70% sure they say "Noble-1". We need somebody to go ninga the script of the teaser trailer.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

A man is asking for "NOVA"1, and when NOVA1 doesn't reply, S-259 replies at the last moment.

My guess is that NOVA-1 is one of the two lieutenants who led Charlie Company. Sent to recover the NOVA bomb, they were repurposed to defend the orbital generators at all costs. They were carpet bombed by the UNSC HIGHCOM by accidrnt ("there's still people down here!" line?) and then the admiral would have frantically tried to communicate with them, since they needed the Charlies in the fight, or Reach would fall. NOVA-1 (and coincidentally NOVA-2, the other lieutenant) would have been killed by the bombing, so they didn't answer. When the Spartans of Red Team reached the generators, Fred was talking to Whitcomb on COM, so Spartan-259 could have answered in his absence: This is Sierra-259. You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere. in order to put the admiral at ease.
