Sorry if i'm being an ass, and I realize that this is all "make believe" but Spartans wouldn't operate as mercenaries, they are bred career military.

true mercs work with the biggest price and spartans work with the army that trained them

Not only that, but Spartans were not only trained but raised to believe that the preservation of humanity was paramount, and that they were instrumental to that preservation. Not exactly the makings of a merc.

Zoe and Justin? Sounds like S-Club 7 *Shudder*

Anyway, yeah.

Axel - 295

Leader of Orange Team, instrumental in the defence of Reach. Dropped into hot-zone to defend generators, buying enough time for the MAC-cannons to destroy many key Covenant ships. Reported MIA as per official ONI guidelines.

Used Mjolnir Mk VI Armour with Mk V helmet, Security variant shoulder pads and Recon variant body armour. Favoured the Shotgun and Assault Rifle as well as making use of the proto-type Batle Rifle.

Not true, some used the Mk IV (Halo Wars), others used the Mk V (Halo: CE) and others used the new Mk VI (Halo 2 and 3).

There where no mercenaries during the battle between Humanity and Covenant. And no Spartan would ever be a merc, due to the fact that they where raised by the UNSC and fought exclusivly for them.

The Covenant would never employ a Human Merc, and all Humans where under threat by the Covie meaning no soldier would be foolish enough to become a merc. He/she would simply fight for their life and freedom.

In your little hypothetical world maybe, but it wouldn't happen in the Halo universe, that was my point.

Building on that point, this thread becomes pointless if you start excluding the rules of the Halo universe, as by removing one you may as well remove them all. Hey, I know, lets introduce the Zurg :D

'Fraid not. Any rebel would have you in irons for that remark. A merc wors for either side, whoever has the most money. Rebels are a side. Just because they aren't as 'official' as an army doesn;t make them a bunch of mercs. While they are more likley to hire mercs, true rebels do not fight for money, they fight for their own cause and their freedom.

Do not get mercs and rebels mixed up! :P

I understand the fact that true Spartans would never turn merc, but where I was coming from is he escaped because of the dangerous training and stardards set by other spartans. But then again...its only a "What if" not an actuality. lol
