1. What is your ISP, type of connection, and connection speed?

2. What is the ping on the servers you play on? Make sure to only join servers with less than 150.

3. Where is your location [UK, US, Canada], and do you know where the servers are that you are joining?

if you get lag on campain, your computer's hardware is not sufficient to play at the settings you have it set at. what your video card/ processor speed?
if not, you have eaither a virus or spyware...

For lag in halo campaing it's bungie fault,it doesn't matter what sort of specs you have.
You will still lag

what kind of computer do you have?
CPU Speed?
Ram + Speed?
Video Card?

I dont thinkits an ISP issue if your having problems in Campaign, probably a hardware issue.

Oh, didn't see the campaign thing, only read multiplayer.

Then it's pretty obvious it's his hardware!

PS - blame Gearbox, Bungie didn't port it and give it crap shaders.

What settings do you have it set at? What is your internet connection speed (you can go to your ISP's site and find it)?

Well, I have sufficient hardware to not have lag, and I don't have lag. However, I hate it when other people lag in my server. I host a dedicated and am wondering; is there a way, or a program that can autoban people who exceed a certain ping? If there isn't, get moving bungie, people are getting angry because they have to stop playing, pull up the console, type sv_players, then sv_ban, it's too annoying. Earlier today I was playing a slayer, had 25 kills and no deaths, continued playing and then a lagger came in. I had to stop playing to ban him and someone killed me. :(

Banning people because they have crappy connections isn't very nice. It's not their fault. Kicking them after you ask them to leave because they are causing lag is better.

ummm i'm not sure but I think its ur graphic card, trying tonong down ur settings and if u turn down the resolution, things should be fixed in no time, i was willing to turn my resolution down to 800x600 meanwhile increasing my settings, and now i enjoy a totally lag-free campaign & multiplayer with slightly less detailed graphics, though the in-game graphics are better because the lower resolutuon let me turn up my settings, u might try what i suggested.

P.S i was wondering myself, can high graphic settings in Halo PC that lag your computer contribute to lag on the internet?

Yes, if you're pc can't process the info a server is giving you or can't process what you're trying to do all at once, then you end up lagging up and soon the server lags. It basically ends up that you clog the pipe and back it up, which ruins it for everyone [remember, we're talking about a server, not your communal toilet] :P

Use the -user1 trick to use direct x 8 instead of 9. Simply put it after the .exe in the shortcut. This worked wonders on my old pc to reduce framerate lag. But ever since i got my new pc i have never experienced any lag in campaign, infact i find it less laggy than halo for the xbox, and much easier to aim due to the mouse/keyboard.

Oh a btw what setting are you using. I recommend 1024x756 with everything on for your rig, maybe even 1280x1024. Anyways if your still experiencing lag, i would check your sound card drivers, as halo can be pretty demanding for sound.

Well, causing a server to crash because of a crappy connection isn't very nice either. Yes, it is their fault, it's just that most people don't to have to pay 5000 a month for T3, so, until they do, Halo players need an alternative ability to cut down on lag. Bungie, create the 1.08 Patch soon for dedicateds and Regular versions with a settalbe auto banning system. I want to buy Halo 2 if it comes out on PC, don't ruin it now. Thanks

No...deleting files won't really give you a performance increase - not even a minimal one. Why would it? Data stored on the hard drive doesn't lag a game - a bad internet connection or slow CPU/RAM/video card will. So, don't delete anything. Assuming you know about computers and hard drives [err..], you'll know you can't delete several keys things if you want the pc to work.

Upgrade. If your pc is way too slow to play Halo then you won't play any new games, either.

BTW, anyone noticed how the topic started sort of disappeared :S

these are the minimum system requirements right off the box (note: minimum doesn't mean you will get that great performance. It's recommended to have at least 1.5 times of what the box says.):

OS: windows 98SE/ME/200/XP--128 MB RAM
Processor: 733Mhz.
Hard Drive: 1.2 GB
Video Card: 32MB/3D T/L capable (transform and lighting)
Other: 8x CD, sound card & speakers/headphones
Online: 56.6 kbps modem or LAN; Broadband to run a server

k.

No actually deleting files would fragment the hard drive and actually make the game run slower.

Depending on how many files were deleted.

well, i heard that a full hard drive fragments more than a less full hard drive. Just run disk defragmenter, it really helps sometimes.

Other things to try:
Update drivers: video card, motherboard, sound card, network card, etc. If you have a Dell 8400, the A06 BIOS version is the latest.

Buy a new PC
