Please Comment your Ideas on the Destructible Content field aswell. Thankyou

Okay well I was thinking. What if there was some realistically based destruction. Not the measly crate destruction and stuff. But what if some, not all, but some scenery destruction. I have this idea cos I'm sick of campers. Now say you have the rocket launcher or a fuel rod and theres a nub camping with the bubble shield and the shotgun. He's behind a wall and you don't wanna run in anywhere because the 'nub' will probably woop yo ass. So you run behind the wall and blow the living daylights out of it. Then you run in and achieve a well earned assassination.

Okay I'm not expecting everyone to follow with this idea but i just thought it could spice up Halo Multiplayer a bit. Please vote on the pole so that I can see who would prefer this or not prefer it.

To be honest, I would not want to see this in multiplayer. Even though it's a sweet feature (see BF:BC) it would ruin the competetive tilt of Halo's gameplay.

In campaign, however, I would love to see such a feature. Especially with plasma weapons!

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Walls that can be destroyed should only be destructible by blowing up the Fusion Coils near them. On top of that, Gears-type destructibility would be cool (you can shoot off the outer layer of some walls, but you can't destroy the Wall itself, like Barriers in Halo 3, the corners shoot off, but you cant fully destroy it, Im talking about walls on the map though.) Also, in Halo 2, Zanzibar had some destroyable cover, I think that would be cool on some maps as well. (even as forge objects.)

No that would kill the gameplay. How about no bubble shield and use grenades to kill campers. Its worked before in Halo CE and 2 and it will work for Halo Reach.

to a certain extent; I'd love it.

on H2 (greatest mp game ever) there was PLENTY of destructible scenery on maps, from parts of the ceiling to a bridge on zanzibar, glass, parts of the maps blowing up on midship, etc.

no to destructible walls, yes to destructible scenery.

Ok. Really? Is this a serious post? Less people would play Halo. If your sick of campers then just toss a few nades their way or something. I'm sure you have camped a few times. But if you want to destroy maps go to Battlefield Bad Company.

yes yes yes thats what more fps games need now. i dont mean as much crazy destrruction as in red faction but a basic levle of destruction would be great.

  • 07.11.2009 9:31 AM PDT

Nah, it wouldn't be good.

Yes, I would enjoy SOME destructible content in the new coming Halo games. Some destructible things like colums holding up floors. That way you would be able to take advantage of your surroundings by shooting the colum, causing the floor to collapse on enemies. But not like Battle Field Bad Company content. Just some small destructible content to make firefights a little bit more interesting. Mabey not even being able to make floors collapse, how about just some debrey thats falls off walls and onto the ground (and doesn't dissapear)....

Yes I understand your opinion, but we don't mean Battle Field Bad Company destroyable content. Just a little bit like making small holes in walls just big enough to throw a grenade through. Even that may be a little much.

Destructable environments is a feature that needs to be implemented early in the game design process in order to created balanced gameplay. It's the type of feature that defines gameplay.

If it were added to a game like Halo 3 it wouldn't work. If Halo: Reach intends to emulate the gameplay of the preceding games then I say, 'No'. If however, Bungie decides to make a significant departure from the type of gameplay we're used to by designing their new game around this feature, then I would support it.

Keep in mind, that such a large change in gameplay would probably have most people in the Halo community up in arms. I believe you'd have more people complaining about the drastic change in gameplay than you would people who appreciate the change. You're likely to get a majority of people here replying 'yes' to your poll but few of those people have taken the time to consider how drastically it will alter gameplay from what they're familiar with.

I'm impressed with your reply. You're right, we do need to think of the possible outcomes and changes in gamplay by making destructable content in the Halo games... It could completely ruin the original Halo gamplay expirience. Breakable glass and destructible vehicle content (in my opinion) should still be included in all Halo games like they have been in the first three. But think about this. How do you improve gameplay with out taking chances? You don't. Bungie may give destrucable environments a try, they may not. But in the end you don't really know what the masses will like. They may disapprove of the change or they might actually like it. You never can be to sure.

Take it easy... I hope he mean light matter :)

threes, caves, windows and so on... and it also depends on what weapon you use

I dont think he mean you can blow out valhalla bunker etc

Why don't people understand love
:CCCCCCCCCCC

Fences, wooden ceilings and floors, light metals etc. Awesome. Not to everything else :)
Destruction in halo could be good. Not as big as Red Faction but not so pointless as it is in GOW2. I think braking down stone and the such with constant fire then maybe being able to shoot through it? as for thinner material just ordinary bullet penatration.

Then again the structures and scenery in halo always seemed quite sturdy to me. But crates should definately be destructable. Possible all scenery except the walls, but walls could take minor structural damage just to make it look pretty.

you have absolutely right ... the OP cant mean heavy materia... then he is (....)

but if they should add this... they must fix the graphic a bit (not much but a small bit)

  • 07.11.2009 10:42 AM PDT

yes it may alter gamplay but it offers a realizm that has been seriously depleted from the halo series yes i know that there is some destructable terrain but such things as bullet impacts that take chucks out of walls and more destructable objects would futher the game play expeirence offuture halo titles

  • 07.11.2009 11:58 AM PDT

i'm all for it. Halo: Reach needs some change to its gameplay. they need to keep the franchise fresh. i don't want to be playing Halo 3.5

Who are you to say that less people would play Halo. Look I just believe its time for a change and not the same old gameplay styles we're having now. Like Nosferatu486 said above I don't want to feel like I'm playing Halo 3.5.

You can go ahead and enjoy the same old Halo style but I want Bungie to take a risk with this game. One that good make, or break the Halo Series for good.

Bungie is already doing this to walls in the Security Zone level of Firefight in ODST. I'm sure they'll take the feedback from the community on it and adjust it as they see fit in Reach.

Yes true but I would love to see something more in the Destructible Content field. As other people said above what I totally agree with I would either just want it in campaign or a small amount in multiplayer just to make the feel of combat more intense.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Stalactites on Waterworks was the best interactive, environmental effect (that one could utilize for gameplay purposes, that is) in the entire Halo trilogy, and I was sad to see that such interaction was not present in Halo 3. I'm hoping such concepts will return in Reach, but I'm not holding my breath.
