Reach has a lot of potential to have the best campaign yet, new engine, new story, and thankfully, no Flood.
I think the AI in the game needs to be a lot better, both in personality and actions. Below are some ideas.
- Grunts and Jackals are portrayed in the books as being enemies, but in the games we see them working side by side without a problem. I'd like to see sections where the two species are arguing, and get broken up by Elites.
- Likewise in the books, ODSTs don't like Spartans. At all. Yet in the games, they're the best of buddies, saying things like "Hey Chief!", and generally acting out of character. I'd love moments where, if you approach an ODST out of a combat situation as a Spartan, the ODST will turn it's back on you, perhaps muttering "freak" as it does.
- Hunters need to care more about their bond brothers. Sure, this was shown slightly in Halo 3, but it could be improve upon, say when one Hunter dies, the other lets out a large wail, and doubles it's aggresion.
- Marines should be intimidated by Spartans, even high ranking ones. I'm not sure if it's because the Master Chief is known to everyone, but in the games they seemed perfectly okay standing next to a faceless 8 foot tall super soldier who could kill him in an instant. They should have looks of apprehension when forced to work with you.
- Spartans should act like Spartans. Don't make them all like the Master Chief; in the books, around other Spartans they laughed and joked like normal people. Show this, and have them quiet down when around normal marines. I want to feel like the Spartans are like siblings to you, rather than just people you work with.
- If Brutes are in the game, show better pack mentality. The section at the end of The Ark was brilliant, where the Chieftan challenged you to a one on one battle. If more sections like that are in Reach, should Bungie choose to include Brutes, then I'll be happy.
- Marines need to be more efficient fighters, yet at the same time they need to act like Marines. They should take cover a lot, and if they get hit in say the arm, their aim will be drastically reduced.
- Grunts likewise need to be more inspired, it's no fun chasing after a Grunt with it's arms in the air. An idea is that a Grunt squad could have within it a Deacon at times, who will inspire them to fight more efficiently.
- Elites in the books are described as being tight knit, show that in the games. Have it so if one Elite's shields are down, as you deliver to killing blow another Elite jumps in the path of your bullet, saving his brother.
- Have marines pick up good weapons automatically; if they are holding a pistol and see and walk over an assault rifle, have it so they switch the pistol for that. If they pick up a power weapon you wanted, it doesn't matter, just swap it with him.
Anyway, those are just some of my ideas on how the AI in Reach could be improved; if you have any post them below and I might work them into the OP.
