So, June 1st 2009. Halo 3: ODST is shown to the public for the very first time. The crowd went wild. It looked amazing. And all of a sudden, Firefight.
Firefight. Taking the Halo gameplay we all love and putting it into a Survival Mode kinda system. Genius. Pure genius. We couldn't wait to 'drop' into this.
However, a bunch of us had another concern. We knew it would be awesome, the mode, but we wanted to know about matchmaking. For Firefight, that is. You see, not all of us have friends willing to play this with us. And not all of us live in the exact same time zones or can play with our friends whenever we want. Its tough to organize something like this. If you've done the Annual achievement or tried to play Custom Games sometimes, chances are you've experienced this yourself.
We started a thread. We posted about that and the bombshell came from Urk: No Matchmaking for Firefight.
Upset I may have been, I tried to find an alternative and made this thread. Most people seemed to like the idea but the word came from Achronos himself, Bungie wouldn't be making a Firefight only Forum.
And so, we're left in the same situation again. We have an awesome gametype but its not as convenient to use as any of us would have hoped for. And, while I don't blame them, as busy as they are working on two new other amazing games, Bungie isn't interested about doing an alternative. Its not worth it, they say.
Well, in retrospect, I have to agree. Making a forum based around an entire gametype alone is kinda pushing it.
So, my fellow B.Net Community Members, I think its time we took this into our own hands.
We all want to play Firefight but we want to do it in the most convenient way possible, don't we? This will require a bit of responsibility from the community itself, but I believe we can do it.
I've come up with a few methods to make this simpler, and perhaps, when all three of these 'solutions' work together, we will have something almost as good as Firefight matchmaking.
First of all I would like to direct your attention to this group here. I didn't create this but another community member took the initiative to do it. I think that if we all support this and use it to find games, it will help a lot.
So, my dear community members, It would be great if you guys joined the group and use it. That is most important.
Secondly, I have started this new little bird. Behold: The Unofficial B.Net Community Firefight Twitter page. This is, how do you say... This is what I believe is the glue that holds this whole plan together.
With this twitter account, users of B.Net, looking for a Firefight match, will be able to post a update there, telling everyone that they want to have a Firefight match, what time (If you want one at that exact moment, just say it.), how many people they need and their Gamertag. Simple. How would you do that?
The bnetfirefight Twitter account is open to all member of the Bungie Community. Hence, here is the username and password.
Username: confidential as of now
Password: confidential as of now
This requires a lot of esponsibility on the community's part. No spamming. No rubbish. Use it for what it is: A Great Tool. I would recommend to those using this, to get you own individual twitter account to follow this twitter account. That way, you can be on your own twitter page and still see the updates. Convenience. I have already got my account following this guy, you should do the same. If not, you could always just visit http://www.twitter.com/bnetfirefight, without logging in or anything and just check for the latest matches.
And Lastly: Classifieds. People! Listen to me when I say this, Classifieds is a DUMP. Look at it. This is our problem and we must try to fix it. People need to start using it. ASAP.
And that, fellow Community members, is what I say out to you. If we all work together, use these 3 functions together, not only will we get efficient Firefight, almost to the same level as matchmaking, but we can prove that we can work well together as a company.
So what say you?
Get joining that group and posting!
Get following that Twitter and for the fun of it, use the bnetfirefight twitter to post something!
Go have fun in Classifieds!
Ready to do this, B.Net Community?
