Well after playing through halo 2 again i realized that brutes were really fun enemies because they were unique. Then in halo 3 i get the feeling that bungie couldn't get rid of the elites so they modified the brutes to fill their place. This obviously didn't work, now if we were to put halo 3's brutes into Reach they would be filling the same role as elites. You don't want two different enemies filling the same role.

I think bungie should use the halo 2 brutes, but they will have the armor of halo 3's without any shields. In halo 2 the brutes had a head plate that you shot 3 times to knock it off and once more for the kill... This is how the helmet should fall off in reach. (the body armor should never fall off) after their helmet falls off they should go berserk, but they should try to not show their head.

These new brutes would be given a new role as the grenadiers of the covenant.

Maybe they could sit behind all the other covies and shoot grenades from their brute shots.

there could also be parts were you run into a brute pack, which would have the spiker/brute plasma rifle brutes, and the chieftain with the gravity hammer.

the ranks would be decreased for Halo: Reach.
There would be a minor (has nothing but a helmet and a bandoleer.) looks like this and carries spikers/brute plasma rifles.
a major which looks like this carries a mauler
a ultra which could look like this which could carry brute shots
and of course the chieftain which looks like this which would carry a grav hammer.

now none of these would be as powerful as they are in halo 3, because they would have no shields.

For matchmaking the brute could work. In halo 2 the brutes were hunched over slightly so they were not as tall as halo 3's. So if the halo 2 body plan was used their height would not be too large. The basic body armor would look like this, and their could be different helmets, shoulders, etc. the only difference would be that the matchmaking version has shields (assuming halo reaches multiplayer has shielded players.)

Now this is only a list of what i want, but i believe if brutes were implemented in his way it could be a great improvement to halos gameplay.

EDIT: well of course after typing this i realize someone already made a thread like this, oh well mines more detailed.

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

No offense or anything, but this looks very similar to my thread....

Apart from that, I think the Brutes should stay almost the same as in Halo 3 but without the armour break-off. However, Brutes will only appear a couple times throughout the entire game, posing as guards for areas. This'll make them not only right for MultiPlayer, but also make the Brutes in Reach something to fear, or when you see them you think "Oh no, this ha= got to be bad....".

yeah i know, sorry about that....

the only problem i see with your idea is the guarding important areas thing. back during the time Reach takes place the prophets don't trust the brutes. so they wouldn't allow them to guard very important things.

True - perhaps, instead, they are almost used as a strong form of "cannon-fodder" - sent into battle first so as not to waste the Elites at their disposal.

that's kind of the idea i had, but then i realized the covenant don't really have a explosives unit so i thought brutes would be a perfect fit. (i consider hunters heavy artillary, hunters are to brutes as the laser is to the rockets.)

the rank could go
elite
brute
hunter
jackal/drone
grunt

i really just want all the types of covies to work together, and halo 3 brutes would infringe on the elites role. all the covenant should have a specific role.

Brutes have recharging shields, it's just if the shields reach absolute zero the armour falls off.....such a rubbish feature for Halo Brutes.

no, my idea is to keep the brutes, but keep the elites as the greatest foe on the battlefield. the brutes would no longer be the leaders.

so you get the challenge of elites, but you keep the variety of enemies you can find.

Some nice ideas. I don't think Brutes should be on the battlefield at all though, they should be guarding Covenant prisons like they do at the beginning of Halo 2.

Thank you sir, that was an epic rendition of this topic.

and how!

They will most likely be in Reach, but they won't be a major Covenant role.

At that time the Brutes were one of the lowest ranking species in the Covenant, if not the lowest. They had absolutely no command and were given the worst technology, including ships that had lifts removed.

They should have some armor, but not much. It should be able to be shot off to some extent as well, but not as in Halo 3. If you shoot a Brute's chest a few times their chest armor should be damaged, not if you shoot them in the foot for a while their entire suit flies off.

well variety is always better, the more enemies you can face the less likely it is that every encounter feels the same. in halo 3 i feel that every covenant encounter is somewhat the same.

Yeah, same. But as were trying to keep along with the storyline of Halo (Halo: Reach,Halo Wars, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 ODST, Halo 3; Finish the Fight)At the end, BArutes would be shunned of doing something REALLY bad, as they won't appear in (Halo:Combat Evolved). Or, did that happen in (Halo Wars), because I haven't really beat it yet.

they don't show up in Halo: CE because only an elite controlled ship chased the pillar of autumn. so no brutes were at alpha halo.

  • 07.11.2009 10:01 AM PDT

I would imagine Brutes were. I can actually see them in some hallways holding a plasma rifle. But I think Brutes in Reach are actually a great idea, but no shields. So I can those little bas- uh..well, were all thinking that if this no shields. Direct damage.
