Since the announcing of ODST I've been worried that we may be limited to only the streets of the city, which to me removes a little of the "open world" that Bungie has been talking about. So far I have not seen (or heard) any conformation or denial of this and I am worried that buildings might not be accessible.

If buildings are accessible it will open a lot of doors (pun intended) for things that we can do. It would also make surprising the enemy much easier as well as making it easy to avoid fights, although it might be to easy.

hey neat i was just thinking about that but i think only certain buildings will be availible and not all of them

i thinks its cool that there are multiple ways to travel around the city. Example: cars

in the trailer there is a clip of two ODSTs driving a mongoose in New Mombassa

"Nothing is True, Everything is Permited."

2 Podcasts ago they talked about being chased by hunters inside a building. So that confirms that we can go into at least 1 building. They also said that enemies can go in buildings too.

That's good that some are accessible, I wonder if they meant a destroyed building like the one showed in the announcement trailer (the one the ODST crashes into) or if they meant like a building that is still intact with doors and the likes.

Yes....I like to camp..

If this game is anything like a free roam but with only one story and no side missions, I will be impressed. (If it has some accesible buildings).

I am reularg.

In a podcast Bungie said you could go into a building.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I believe that there are lots of indoor areas, but weather most of them are mission specific, I do not know. I do hope that there is a fine balance between intererior and exterior areas though, making it feel more seamless and immersive, instead of forcing you to go around every building. Over, under and through, not just around.

Swiss cheese FTW!

Did you see how effing big the map is? I don't think we'll be able to go into every building. My guess, it'll be like Fallout 3 where rubble and other things block off buildings, or we just can't go into them. But the rest will be accessible.

Firefight areas are unlocked parts from the campaign aren't they? So if it's in Firefight it should also be in the campaign.

I wonder if they incorporate the SI into by having him unlock more and more doors as you progress through the campaign

You know you are running a hard course when your ears pop during the meet.-me

On a recent podcast scetch was talking about how hunters chased him into a building or something. in might have been the ruins of a building though so there was like no enter and exit you know?

  • 07.11.2009 6:32 PM PDT

Does anyone even read these?

I'm sure we will fight inside buildings, maybe even go swimming in a swimming pool. A man can dream...

I hope the game will have optional missions such as in The Elder Scrolls, or Assassins Creed, or GTA, etc. because I thought it would be pretty cool to have a mission aside from the main plot in which you would set up an ambush in the window of one of the buildings.

I hope you can pick up a radio transmission in a cop car or downed pelican that reveals the location of pinned marines or a weapons cache that could assist you.
