ya, but when your the sniper then you just get really pissed off

Yeah? So what. They can get over it, there needs to be more ways to counter a sniper.

Also, as long as you don't put to many smoke grenades on the map, and give them a long respawn time, you won't see it happen a lot. this way the sniper can still get kills, but if a man is pinned down he can find a way out if he happens to have a smoke grenade.

Counter a sniper? Use cover. If you know someone is sniping, then don't go across open tracks of land.

However there isn't always cover available to you. Not only that but smoke grenades can be helpful in a wide variety of situations.

Well then you get sniped. The game wouldn't be balanced if ythere was no way for a sniper to get you. Open areas are what make sniping in Halo possible.

Like I said, put very few smoke grenades and long respawn times on them and the sniper can still snipe, but sometimes he can't. It would be balanced.

not really, skill is. open areas are just an edge

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

I actually agree. We need something to counter snipers. (besides the slow spawning bubble shield and what not)

Sniperwhores need to just deal with the fact that actual players want to have a chance at getting away. Besides, the sniper can still get a shot in and if lucky, finish his target. Not like smoke deflects bullets. (this means u Chris guy)

In my opinion, it's balanced now. Snipers can't shoot through things. So if you're behind something, you won't get shot. If you keep running out in the open when you know very well that someone has a sniper rifle, then you're just asking for it.

Ok lets take a break from sniping for a bit. Lets look at what other situations smoke grenades can come in handy in.

  • 07.11.2009 6:55 PM PDT

Spartan laser, tank, possibly a way to confuse warthogs.

Good ideas, think of CTF you are trying to capture the flag you could throw down a smoke grenade and confuse the enemy to help out your team mates.

Well, aside from sniping, it can be used to good advantage in Objective games. Throw a Smoke into you'r enemy's base on CTF, grab the flag. Other than that I don't think it could be used as much more than an annoyance.

They're not necessary because, I suspect, you'll have shields. And other than against snipers, you don't need them. In other games, smoke grenades are needed to provide temporary cover, because in those games you die in only a few shots. But in Halo, where you have shields, you can stand a few shots to get from point A to point B.

Also, I don't see how it could be used as a confusion tactic, because you'll probably have Radar. So even if you can't see someone, you know they're there. And no-one in a Warthog will be confused by a bit of smoke in MM, because everyone will know the maps so well.

True about the confusion part, but there are some really bad drivers out there, and if they ran into a smoke grenade they'd have a heart attack :).

Anyways, referring to make earlier post, Spartan lasers and tanks...good way to keep those from seeing you too, because I don't how much shield you have, those are both one shot kills.

dude, you ain't bein specific enough about this point a/b stuff a bubble sheild can get you to point B from point A depending on how far it is and what the bubble sheild is protecting you from (wich in this case is sniper fire) if you have ever played "duck hunt" its played in custom games.(the game where there is a group of people who run through a map with cover placed in certaiin areas while a sniper shoots at them from a tower over veiwing the map) and in most cases the only cover the runners have inbetween gaps are bubble sheilds. wich in theory would be getting from point A(the beginning cover) to point B (the next area of cover) while of course as i said only using bubble sheilds for protection from the sniper inbetween gaps.

and plus, there's another trusty tool for getting from snipers. a bubble sheild. smoke nade blind them but if they get a lucky shot and see the red in their crosshair your screwed.( but that's only if they get a lucky shot. there as a bubble sheild they can see you, but there's no way that they could ever get through the bubble shield. not even a sniper bullet is that strong

..You obviously don't get what we're trying to say here.

A smoke grenade is to cover a wider area and get you from point A to point B without the sniper seeing you. He can still kill you, but he would have to be pretty damn lucky.

A bubble shield can't get you safely from one point to another.

Oh, I thought you meant confuse a tank in the same way you'd confuse a Warthog driver. Yes, it would be good against Tank drivers. They would instinctually shoot at the smoke, assuming someone was in there. All you'd have to do is throw it in one area and run a different way. Although the solution against Splasers is the same as against snipers.

I never thought about confusing a tank like that with a smoke grenade. Good idea. Keep them coming.

You can't down people in halo, and you can't hump them until they are dead...this isn't gears two.

Yeah we also need flashbangs and silencers. /sarcasm

Let me guess, you're one who thinks that any minor similarity between halo and call of duty will completely ruin the game? How can an infantry move from point A to point B safely if there is a decent skilled sniper watching that area? He would get shot down. There needs to be a way he can keep safe from snipers.

No thats not true. I'm just trying to say Halo isn't tactical in a military sort of aspect. If there is a sniper stay out of the open. Halo has already been slowed down way to much. Things like that would just make it worse. Equipment shouldn't have been added to the game and the player speed shouldn't have been lowered. Halo needs to stay fast paced. Don't assume every time a person is against an idea that is also in Call of Duty that person doesn't want it merely because it is in Call of Duty.

Sorry, I see a lot of posts that say if Halo is anything like Call of Duty, then the game would be completely ruined. The whole Silencers/Flashbang post threw me off a bit.

No. Gears of War used them, and their only purpose became taunts (down a person, and stick them with a smoke grenade while humping/spanking them). Gears 2 gave them a concussion ability, so they actually saw their proper use.

But even then, the reticule still turned red when over an enemy, so it didn't do as much good as it could have.

Plus, there's always the lag consideration.

In GOW the smokes actually had many uses for cover. You could smoke the power weapons so you could snatch them and run. Only giant douche bags taunted with them. The smokes in GOW 2 were actually used for only spam. They are ridiculous and cheap, especially after Title Update #4.
