Rule 6: Respect the Admins

I was wondering if Bungie would increase the shotgun effective range. What I mean by this is that it's range is so dwarfed that it is only pratical in melee range. Anything beyond that will only take half shield or less and against any other gun, granted a few, it will lose out. There is no epic battle where it can go either way.

If the effective kill range was increased some, the guy with the shotgun could actively run around with it equiped in hand, and possibly cause some of the people that cry and scream "camper" to calm down. Don't even increase it that much, the mauler has pretty good range. It does close to the same amount damage in melee range as it does, 6-7 meters give or take (not the best judge of distance but that seems about right.) Then it's damage starts to decrease with range. Make the shotgun's shell spray in a tighter group like the mauler does or something similar so the shotgun isn't overly dwarfed in range.

Wouldn't that be sort of imbalanced? I mean, that way you have good chances over a distance and you can get one shot kills at point blank range. Maybe it would work if it had the range of HCE, but was weaker.

I don't see how that would make the shotgun balanced. I mean, each gun should have it's own strengths and weaknesses, but if I could charge an open outdoors area and get kills with the same weapon that gives me kills at point blank, that would be rather overpowered. The way I see it, there ware two ways for a video game shotgun to be balanced.

1. Powerful but with low range, like Halo 3

2. Not too powerful, but good range, like the Team Fortress 2 shotguns.

If the gun has range and power, it would beat most weapons in the game. I could be wrong though.

go play Halo CE the shotgun only one shot kills if your within meelee range otherwise its pretty weak

@ bullet_sponge I have played it countless times. It's my all time favorite game. But I still think a weapon that works in close quarters and over distances is rather over powering, at least in multiplayer.

yea i hate how i have to keep my Shotty as a secondary weapon becuz of its horrible range and then at the last minute switch when im within range and it sometimes gets me killed please increase the range by 15-20 percent Bungie

Oreo, go play Bad Company. The shotguns there have notably longer range than in most games, but still retain a decent amount of power and do massive damage up close, and in no way are they broken, because all the other guns outclass them at other ranges, and sometimes the SMGs even beats the shotguns in close quarters.

I haven't played that game, but I suppose a bit more accuracy over distances wouldn't be too bad, as long as it isn't overdone.

Bring back the power/range of the Halo 1 shotty, but with the magazine capacity from Halo 3. It would not be overpowered if the other weapons behave like they did in Halo 1 (or would have if they were in Halo 1).
