The problem with this is that Microsoft owns the rights to the Halo IP, not Bungie. If Bungie owned them, the series would be saved. Bungie is concerned with us gamers, Microsoft is only concerned with sales. Microsoft and Bungie have a chance to make this good, and they're gonna have to make Reach really good in order for the hardcore fans to think extending the Halo series is justified. But the thing is that if they make Reach anything short of revolutionary, then Halo will become another one of those series that started off good, and failed.
To make this game good, they need to focus on campaign. That was the problem with Halo 3, the campaign was underdeveloped. Yes, it was good, but it wasn't awesome the fiftieth time you played it, unlike Halo CE's campaign, which is still awesome 8 years after its release. For the hardcore fans, campaign matters just as much, if not more than multiplayer.
Also, they need to focus specifically on gameplay. Like, more than anything else. Because the thing about Halo CE is that even though it's outdated in terms of graphics, it is still fun to play nowadays. Bungie needs to look at what they've done right, and hopefully they can make Reach as epic a revolution as Halo CE was. Microsoft needs to give Bungie the time and resources to make this game epic, because I've got a feeling that if they don't, their last lifeline will be gone, and they'll ruin the reputation of what's been an awesome series so far.
