The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.
Currently firefight is built off of halo 3's co-op, meaning there is no matchmaking available for this new mode of play. This has been confirmed also by Bungie themselves. In order to round up a party for firefight, a player will have to have little brothers or sisters, or hope the people on his/her friend list want to play the same time they do. Which raises the question, will firefight last without some form of matchmaking down the road?
Firefight has been one of the big selling points Bungie has been using in order to promote ODST. Now I am sure when the game first gets released, this wont be an issue hence many people like myself will be renting the game, trying it out and everyone will be playing it. However what happens maybe a month or two down the road? What happens to the players who may be playing at 4am, and lil johnny and sally are asleep? Or most of a players friend list do not like firefight, even maybe went off to other games? Current games out there with similar survival modes like Halo's firefight compensate for this, by adding matchmaking and allowing random users to party up. I believe a title update will be needed at some point to allow users who don't have dedicated friends to play parts of this game they paid for. Worst case scenario, in a few months this turns into how zombies did for halo 2; where people would be mass messaging on the forums and to their recent players trying to gather people to play. So unless someone loves playing by themselves its an obstacle.
