A pc coop would be amazing... Would it still be text chat or can there be a voice chat implented?

Halo 1 for PC will get Co-op the day that bungie is allowed to OS the engine.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Maybe in halo custom edition, it will get it as i was playing H2V today and there was this campagin map co op online that lacked ai and was all messed up and supported 16 PLAYERS! I will post a video of it soon.

What would be the point of playing the campaign, if there was no AI?

You could explore around without any interference from the AI.

God forbid you cant just clean up all the Ai with a battle Rifle then explore...its not that hard

It would save you a lot of time, especially if you are playing on Legendary. Plus, this is Halo 1 we're talking about so there wasn't a Battle Rifle yet back then.

retarded maybe...

Online co-op is hard to implement, if all games did this, it would show how much effort they put into their games.
you guys notice, on updates, they always replace the .exe file? they probably don't update much.

so I ask this, Please if there is a new update, it should be an "update" that means alot to us.
please make the following sync.

BSP switching
Scripts
all forms of AI
Online Co-op
better netcoding
and a new ui.map file to accomodate the changes to allow access for
Campaign maps for online multiplayer/co-op.

I bet this game would sell like mad, for those that haven't even bought it.
and even now, everyone has the hardware to run Halo 1.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You all know that Halo 1 almost shipped without multiplayer, and how much of a hassle it is to get things to sync over the net for a multiplayer game. This will never be done.

thats news to me.
but they got better with experience, look at how Halo 3 went? it syncs soo much, that Online co-op works along with Forge.

I really hope Bungie does look back at their 1st born game, and upgrade it.
lots of people still play Gearbox's HCE.

You all are hoping for things that are never going to happen. With the state of the netcode they have right now there will be no "co-op" play for Halo 1. And since when was Bungie's 1st born game Halo 1? You my friend are quiet misguided in that respect.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

That's a lie.

1) The lead designer expressed a lot of interest on making Halo PC's multiplayer "as close to the feel of LAN play" as possible during the development of the port.
2) Microsoft MANDATED 16-player online multiplayer for the port.

There was no disregard for multiplayer during the development of Halo PC. Please come back when you know what you're talking about.

I do remember hearing on their podcasts that one of the devs said that Halo 1 almost shipped without it because they could not get 16 player multiplayer working. I am not talking about the port, i mean the game ingeneral. if the original had major problems with multiplayer, then they were not going to spend another year working on the port to get it working correctly. Also it is insanely hard to sync stuff like AI movements, mach tags, and scripts over a net game. To get objects to sync you have to restart the game once everyone is in it, or anyone joining will not have those objects synced on their client end, and might up getting an exception error from the game.

that probably explains why they don't do Drop-in Drop-out online co-op.
But how does Half-Life Mod called Synergy do this?
it must depend on the game engine?

I don't know. I have never played with the Source Engine, so I cannot comment on how their netcode works versus the Halo PC netcode. But I can say for certain that you will never see any form of working co-op online campaign with the engine in the state it is in now. The Halo PC engine has a very strange way of reading maps, where it will not read some tag classes, but it will for others, and sometimes not even care that the map file lacks a whole class of tag. If you take a look at the multiplayer maps, you will notice that they are all very barren. Not much scenery in any of them. Infinity, probably the largest multiplayer map, has as many rocks in the whole level as the first part of the campaign level "Halo" before you reach the first structure. Another thing to keep in mind, the detail objects ingame, such as grass on the ground is completely unsupported in mutliplayer maps. Not that this is a HUGE issue, but in my mind it takes away from having an environment in campaign. Also the map Beaver/battlecreek looks like it has lots of scenery objects, but infact that is all just part of the SBSP of the map.

it is messed up. I wished the developers went through with it. Online Co-op

This one with pictures, looks like its hard to achieve.

Xbox version worked really well.
Only 3 maps for Halo 2 Xbox were completed. :'(

That one by kiwidoggie was the mod used, codehn00b also put up a video giving a posibbly infected program that automattically does it, but knowing his other "Leaked hacks", i wouldnt trust it.

I am sorry, but please correct me if I am wrong, but if you had a dev xbox, then you could make a new map play right? Because from what I know about Halo 1, granted it is different from Halo 2, you do need hardcoded spawn points in the map to begin with to even do more than 1 player on campaign? Halo 1 for PC still has these in it from the xbox version, but there is no way to use them because of how the engine is set up. Also, co-op is completely not practical to bring to a PC platform. Think about it, you and your friend will share a keyboard to play? and the computer has no way to register between two different input systems separately. It would be like having two mice. The game could not get the different control set from the computer because it has no detect function for that.

But if we are talking about doing it over a LAN or network connection, that would also have the same problems as the multiplayer has now. You would have to lead to hit anything while doing campaign. Imagine trying to lead on The Library, the sentinels would be of no use at all, as would the marine AI. As well as the problems of BSP switching, AI syncing, and pretty much all scripts and device actions. None which sync right now in multiplayer, so how would that work in a co-op game?

nevermind this whole BSP switching stuff, all we know is that Halo 3 does it all so good.
Bungie has definetely improved their networking methods.
The idea of online co-op, is not split-screen. its each person on a computer.
Halo 1 Xbox, System Link co-op
I would like to know, this possible for Halo 1 PC?
Halo 2 does sync these things. but its not perfect.

whenever people mention co-op on PC, they mean Online, not local split-screen.
no, 2 people on one PC.
