Subject: driving a scarab possibility

halo best game ever

you remember how that e3 i think they said something about you driving some type of giant vehicle and everyone went to a conclusion of a customized elephant but its possible its a scarab. maybe somewhere in the story you hijack a scarab or find one and drive it around and murder the covenant during a flashback or when you meet up with your squad at the end if you actually do theres a possibility of that what do you think?

  • 07.13.2009 8:28 AM PDT

dat feeling when you plow a multi-ton covenant war machine.

Possible but unbelievably unlikely.

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

i think if we can't pilot a pelican, we can't drive a scarab.

  • 07.13.2009 8:31 AM PDT

that would ruin it

  • 07.13.2009 8:31 AM PDT

Been a while? Sorry about that.

The Scarab isn't a very drivable vehicle since the worm colonies inside its husk like inside the hunter are what actually drive it yeah? That's actually something that confuses me in Halo Wars, the flood must have killed all the worm colonies in the husk of the Scarab in order for it to be controllable by the UNSC.

Been a while? Sorry about that.

In Halo 2 the Scarabs had drivers but the ones in Halo 3 were controlled by worm colonies. Wait a sec there's a continuity error! There's more than one type of Scarab! The one in Halo 2 was different but it was down-powered to fit in Halo 3 better but they have a different way they interact with the environment because in Halo 2 it was drivable. So that either means the covenant replaced their old Halo 2 Scarab with the Halo 3 one or the Halo 2 Scarab was a prototype along with the one Sgt. Johnson drives. Wait, no the Halo 2 Scarab was on a production line since it was drivable in Halo Wars so it must of been of the older design. Ahhh, so because the covenant were having trouble keeping their Scarabs from being hijacked and it wasn't worth having big guns in enemy hands so they set it up so the worm colonies like inside the Hunters control it.

yes its highly unlikely possibly more unlikely than the halo 1 pistol coming back in all its glory in halo: reach but its still possible so im not going to out rule that it happening

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

Joe mentioned how real driving an elephant might have been earlier in production.

a scarab is a living thing its made and functioned by the worm things the make up a hunter

I don't see this happening ever. If you imagine the interface for a second you'd be completely inside the scarab with anyone trying to kill you having to jump on and destroy your power core at the back. Because of the shear impossibility of this act for non-Spartans, you'd be practically invisible inside the Scarab. Fun - probably, plausible - not likely.

Been a while? Sorry about that.

I find it very possible you get to hi-jack a Scarab in ODST because the Halo 2 one was drivable and the Halo 3 one wasn't and this is set in Halo time 2.5 so there's kind of like a %50/%50 chance it'll happen in my opinion. Oh and Guardian Hunter, Sgt. Johnson was able to drive the Halo 2 Scarab I think at least a few other people can to.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Not every Scarab is powered by Hunter Worms.

Been a while? Sorry about that.

I know we aren't Johnson but just because he can do something nobody else has done means we can't? Also about the every Scarab isn't controlled by thing-a-ma-jigger colonies I explained it in the second post sorry for the confusion.

halo wars really just ruined up the canon of the halo sotry line and stuff but its true not all scarabs are controlled by mgaelekgolo

  • 07.13.2009 9:01 AM PDT

Been a while? Sorry about that.

I can agree there Halo Wars confuses a lot but it still (loosely) follows Halo correctly.

God bless you.

I think it won't be likely unless it will have an epic ending.

Don't forget that halo wars ISN'T a bungie creation, it was made by ensemble studios and bungie had practiacally no imput on it whatsoever. That's why the canon got all messed up, if you want a job done properly...do it yourself.
