I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Ok, so I have seen plenty of threads saying either "Elites should be removed." or "Elites should stay." But nobody ever asks the general public what THEY think.

So here is my question, do YOU think that Elites should return?

Answer with the most relative answer to your own opinion, I put up all answers I believed necessary.

In terms of posting, feel free to discuss anything related to Elites in Halo Reach. I would actually like to begin this by saying I would like to see an Elite side to the Campaign return, like they had in Halo 2, this opened many doorways for the plot, and gave us far more understanding of the story behind Halo CE.

Now lets begin discussion.

My opinion is that Elites should not be removed for various reasons:

- Alot of players play exclusively as Elites, and if they were removed, would be forced to play as a Spartan, which they would not enjoy as much.
- Elites to me are much more interesting in background and look that Spartans, I just plain think they are cooler, thats all.
- The ability to choose has always been important to Halo gameplay, even small things like color, or big things like weapon spawns.
- Removing features is like taking a step backwards, which is something I do not want to see happen to Halo.
- Elites are a very Iconic race to the Halo series, well known as the main enemy, they made Halo CE and Halo 2 campaign fun and exciting. In Multiplayer, I think it is cool being able to take the roll of one of these creatures you have gotten so used to fighting.
- I know from personal experience there are many Bungie.net groups full of nothing but Elite players, they share the common likeness in that they all enjoy playing as Elites, and I would not like to see so many groups shut out.

sig goes where?

The only people that complain about Elites are the ones that complain about the BR, the Melee system, Headshot registering, Non-Dedicated Hosts, the AR, the Mauler, Recon armour, Vehicles, The Ranking system, etc etc.

Aka people that complain about anything that could possibly maybe have a chance to cause a slight 1MBAL4NC3!!!!111one.

Yeah basically, most the time they shoot the shoulder and complain that they hit the head. I've looked at the videos, they just missed.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

I want them in, but they need to be revanped to look mean. In Halo 3 they look like hunched over carnivorous dinosaurs where in Halo 1 they stood upright and sounded scary with their Alien babble and such.

Yes, Elites are fun. I don't see why they should be removed.

Woot Woot Woot
Sangheili FTW!

Elites are the first thing someone thinks when hear the word "Covenant", or at least it is for me.
Covenant without Elite are not the same thing.
So they must be in campaign as the main enemy encounter and the must be in multiplayer too as a playable character.

Also i hope their new look in this game resemble the one of Halo:CE and Halo2,
In Halo3 they're too bulky and dino-look like.only their
Only their Combat Helmet is cool and i hope Bungie keeps that concept for the standard Elite helmet on Reach.
Instead in Halo2 and Halo:CE Elites are taller and more slim, in a way cooler look.

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

Yes, Elites need to stay, multiplayer would be noo fun if we couldn't have some form of customization. However, Bungie do need to patch up that hole in the Elites neck...

Yup, i mean how do they drink? It'd all just slosh out the sides.

I believe instead of patching the neck, the Elites need to stand more like they do in This picture. Halo Reach running on a while new engine means that they HAVE to completely remake the model, and I don't think anyone will complain about the head if it is up there. The lighter looking armor, and skinnier look of the Elites seems to be a preference of most players actually. They look more religious, more honorable, like that.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Actually there have been several polls for this on the Halo3 and Halo2 forums in times past. Considering that there is no advantage offered by Elites, other than psychological, the arguments that people bring into play are always weak.

They could certainly stand to refine the neck issue, but that does not offer an advantage, if your aiming at a neck when you have a long head clear in your sights that's your fault, though that doesn't excuse the mistake on the development side of things. It may be prudent to remove them for the sake of the timeline and how the game may play, but I have no problem with them staying.

Elites are cheating pieces of garbage.

Why, because you cannot aim at a different model?

Yep, keep them in. More customization options is always good.

Well, so far that's 35 saying keep them in, 7 neutral, and 10 saying to remove them. This is looking good for the Elites (thank god)

hay i like the ideas of elites for machinimas but sometimes haveing a dinasour on your team really just makes it to tempting to team kill

Time flies like an arrow; fruits flies like a banana.

Dinosaur screamers are on the losing hand, luckily.

Elites are also a way to insert new armour permutations without making it completely un-canon and ugly.

  • 07.14.2009 1:34 PM PDT

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Elites should return. In Halo 2, Elites had a disadvantage. Halo 3, a supposed advantage. In Reach, they can be equal.

Multiplayer is never canon unless it's an MMO.
Yes, but Spartans with ancient Greek helmets just look out of place.

Hm maybe they can return..who cares.
But some Playlists (SWAT for example) should have options with PlayerModel Access.
Examples:
MLG = only spartan
SWAT = only spartan
Team Slayer = equal

That would give the playlists more Skill.

Less skill, actually. If hitting an Elite is that hard, it requires more skill.
